Hotel Dona Palace

Really very good, couldn't fault much, room was small but well equipped and very well finished, no air conditioning though which would make it unbearably hot in the summer since you can't leave the windows open at night without getting eaten alive by mosquitos. Only single serious complaint was the lack of sound-proofing between our room and the room next door so when they cleaned the room next door at 8.00a.m. on Sunday morning it sounded like they were in our room moving furniture. A great and centrally located hotel. Right near St Marks and the Bridge of Sighs - it is on the same canal about 300 yrds further down. Not far to walk to the Rialto either. Beautiful and large room tastefully furnished and with a lovely bathroom. Great breakfast - with bacon & eggs! Private water taxi from airport cost 90 euros but was a spectacular way to arrive taking us through all the canals. Nice bar area and an outside terrace too. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. We searched high and low for a hotel in Venice near St. Mark's square and we think we ended up with the perfect one! We were able to quickly get out of the 'tourist-trap' areas and wander around behind the hotel. There were no problems finding the hotel, or with anything really. Food was good and the rooms were a great size (for Venice). We would certainly go back!

I could not fault this hotel - rooms were a good size and clean, there was a good selection at breakfast, location is excellent, staff were friendly and helpful. I also want make people aware that the restaurant directly outside this hotel - All'Angelo - should NOT be visited. We paid a ridiculous price for two plates of cold pasta and the service was well below par too. Do not be fooled by the fact that it is busy - DO NOT GO IN!! You should explore further afield as the prices around this area are very expensive generally.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. When checking in we had somehow been upgraded to the best room in the hotel, it was magnificent! Our room was like a small apartment, the bathroom was huge and the room itself was perfect. The plus is the terrace, it had a nice big hot tub overlooking Venice. I couldn't ask for more. The hotel's located right behind St.Mark's sqaure so it was a little tricky to find, but if you ask some of the store owners they'll guide you in the right direction, just have the address handy. We printed a map using St Marks Sq as a guide. It wasnt that hard to find. Apart from the excellent and friendly staff, the decor was modern and tasteful. Money was well spent in refurbishments. The meals were fit for a king, and the room service menu was not extravagantly priced as can be the case with some hotels. This hotel is also perfect for those with physical difficulties as the facility is easily accessible for wheelchair users and the rooms (particularly the loo)are built to suit. The Dona Palace Hotel has been tastefully refurbished within this ancient building. Inside it is totally modern with all usual facilities plus free wireless network connection. Location could not have been better, a few yards from San Marco. my wife and I went to venice (minus 3 kids - perfect!) for our wedding anniversary. I'm Italian and have been before, she's not and hasn't. The Dona Palace exceeded all expectations. we booked a suite which gave us a huge room overlooking the adjacent canal with a seperate sitting area and large bathroom with jacuzzi. Its a little hard to find - just go to the end of San Marco and turn left just before the bridge - under the 'Grotto' sign - and its there on the right. The staff are great, the rooms are large and luxurious. We had a room overlooking the adjacent canal and enjoyed watching the passing gondola's. Just turn right out of the hotel front door and you can start exploring Venice - narrow streets, great shops and restaurants. That's the hardest part - choosing a restaurant. Book last minute deal with needaroom.com hotel was excellent, recently refurbished (very tasteful) excellent location food was good, rooms were great and terrace bar was nice watching the gondolas sail by. One disappointing factor is there is no sign thus making it extremely difficult to find thru all the small narrow streets and alleys obtain a map from Internet other than the one on their site.
