We stayed 10 days in this hotel , it wasnt the greatest but it was ok. Nothing to do outside the hotel, I found Tunisia expensive(drinks: £2 for a bottle of water). The animation team was brilliant, food was good. Im not fosy but I would definately not go back.

I have just come back from the Houda and I am wanting to book to go back!! The staff are so friendly and will do anything for you! The Animation team really make your holiday! These guys and girls are so talented and the daily shows and activities are great! The hotel itself is very clean and tidy. The only bad thing was the food was not very good quality but there is always a lot of choice. I would certainly go back and I am already missing the place!

Arrived with high expectations but they were soon shot down when we got to our room. Should of had three rooms but got one room with three bedrooms and had to have two extra beds put in one of the rooms. I have to say the rep was brilliant she got us a refund on not having the right number of rooms. We were in a party of 13 and 12 of us were ill with suspected food poisoning. The hotel just has too many people. We were told there were 2000 guests staying at one time. This is more like a 1 star hotel and catering for so many people is just not on, and food is recycled day after day and that is why so many people are ill. The staff were brilliant especially the animation team and Ali the guest relations officer. The waiters were curtious but we were told when our tip had run out and this was most annoying.
Food rubbish. Beach rubbish. Nowhere to go at night apart from the hotel. Air conditioning non existent. Only one bar and that was so busy no other bar to just have a quiet drink so we sat in reception most nights and used the waiters. Overall holiday was very very poor and on return home have had to seek medical advice after my 13 year old son is still very ill a week after coming home.

We have just returned from what was supposed to be a great 10 day family holiday at the houda hotel what a joke...... The rooms were dirty, exposed live lighting wires, cockroaches, dangerous sockets, waking up to find a maid in your room every morning from 7am even with a do not disturb sign on the door, three of our windows screwed up as they were broken, fag butts everywhere, food was awful, all of us are still ill with severe stomach bugs, air conditioning a joke. My 15yr old daughter was constanley harazed by the male safe touching/groping as she walked past even with us there as well, and often made sexual comments. This hotel is more of a 2 star or less hotel we asked to go home on the second day but thomas cook wanted to charge us £600 if they could get us a flight. So we had to stay the whole ten days came home yesterday and we are all so glad to be home. All the other people who holidayed with us also had a terrible time and could not wait to get home. As we sat yesterday waiting for collection in the lobby we saw the coach loads of people arriving for what they thought was going to be a great holiday, within half an hour of them checking in we were sat litening to to the constant queues of people complaining about their rooms and the state they were in i felt really sorry for them we were the lucky ones we were going home... Please beware you are not getting the holiday you see in the brochure those pics are so out dated they only ones that seemed to enjoy any part of the holiday are those that were completely bladdered allday..Beware....

having looked at the hotel on the thomsons web site it looked brill, read a few reviews with mixed views and comments. not forgetting everyones taste and opinions are different. just arrived back 17/08/09, me and my partner with 2 kids each booked 3 separate twin rooms, we got there to find we had only got 1 room, (classed as apartment) not.the hotel had been over booking for many families. no where else to put us we had to manage. not appropriate when split families go, 1 toilet, no wardrobe for 2 kids, unable to split the beds, not good when my son is 17 and a 14 yr old girl!! then 13 n 10 boys. They offered trips as compo but rubbish. rooms very dated, lights hung off walls, shower leaking and rusty. flies in abundance, all over the food, smoke filled reception, and to top it all not enough sun beds for size of hotel, its a joke when you are fighting for beds at 23.00hrs, if you manage to get sun beds keep your towel on them for all of the hols, DONT take football towels they get pinched !!!jelly fish in the sea and sting big time. thomsons excursions not value for money, reps show poor, sail away poor, lads enjoyed quad bikes but beware insurance doesnt cover you. PLUS point hotel animation team 10/10 it was excellent, however they do pester you and girls, Watch out,and transfer time 11 mins from airport but dont let that put you off as you cant hear the planes its great. decent holiday, not 3 star+ unless updating, wouldnt go back, tunisia dirty.

at first all looks ok at the houda but the longer you stay the more things that bug you.i would say it is a 2 star not 3 star hotel same nasty food day in day out and your ment to have a set table number for your stay there but for the first week we got moved around to a different table every nite when we spoke to the restarant manager he was rude.felt like an out cast being english and you could see the french getting better service even thou they were so rude and pushed in all the q's.if you wanted a bed at the main pool you had to pay some one on the side to put your towls out.then i came home to find that i had three tops and a pair of leggings missing from my case,i think the maid had them ,phoned travel agent and they said there was nothing they could do because i did not let any one know when i was out there even thou i didnt find out till i went to do my washing when i got home,my advise would be to keep your things locked up in your suitcase at all times.would never go back to the houda again.

This place is absolutely amazing!!
When we arrived our room was pretty shabby but when we told Thomas Cook they had us moved within 2 hours which is brilliant considering the hotel was supposedly fully booked (being the first week of Summer Holidays). The room we moved to was lovely, always clean, nice view from the balcony!
Swimming pools both great although very hard to get a sun bed due to mass of people, but that would happen wherever you went!
Food great although did get slightly repetitive towards the end, but if you're not a great eater like me then great!
Bar excellent, waiters always smiling and joking, smaller soft drinks bars for the kiddies too!
But the best part was the Animation Team. Those guys are absolutly AMAZING, they work from 9 am to midnight, always full of energy and having a joke around! I went out clubbing in nearby Sousse with them one night where the team had all picked their fav. girl to go with them :P ended up havina REALLYY fab time and such a laugh!
Would deffinately recommend it, lots of families there, loads to do for the kiddies and a nightclub etc for older ones.
Overall a realllyyy great holiday, creid all the way home and wish i was back there now!!!

We went with a party of 10 people, 5 of them children ranging from ages 1 to 11. We were so excited at the prospect of a relaxing 10 day holiday spent with the children, oh how wrong we were! We arrived at the hotel Houda at 11pm at night to men on stilts looking through the windows of our coach. As we walked through the main entrance doors i could not belive that this was where we were going to be staying, groups of young teenagers shouting and drunk and being drooled over by the animation team. We had booked ground floor rooms as we have young children but we ended up on the first floor with no lifts to get up there and we had to carry the buggy up the stairs. The rooms were very basic but quite large. We went down to get a drink before bed and there were just scruffy plastic tables and chairs outside to sit round. There was not a great selection of drinks it has to be said. On awaking the next morning it dawned on us that this stay was going to be the holiday from hell, the breakfast was terrible. not a lot of choice at all. We couldnt find any free sunbeds at all and had to sit on the beach which was covered in fag butts and we were mithered all day by the sellers on the beach. We ended up having to pay one of the waiters to put out our beach towels each day and we got a good spot by the childrens pool. It was completely packed around the pool and you could hardly move, club music was played from 10am all day round the pool very loud and the animation team bothered you constantly and could be quite rude to you if you did not give them the attention they required from you. Our children were turfed out of the little pool so that the adults could play volleyball with the animation team dessed up in bras and stockings. The animation team spent a lot of time mithering young girls around the pool even though a lot of women seemed to like the attention and jumped around wearing thong bikinis and not a lot else. Dont get me wrong im not a prude but with my young children with me it was totally unsuitable and I was very unhappy about them witnessing some of the sights there! My advice is DO NOT TAKE YOUNG CHILDREN HERE!! It would have been lovely to have seen a bit of what the real Tunisia is like and their culture but the hotel has got completely the wrong idea.

Was really concerned after reading such terrible reviews but had a brilliant time.Slide pool was great as more people prefer the main pool so was nice and quiet and could just keep getting on the slides again and again.Did notice that when we did go to the main pool the queue at the snack bar was constantly a long one.
We went on the camel trip which was quite fun, staff were brilliant as was the entertainment.Had a lovely welcome with cocktails, although my cousin who came did have to wait for a room as hers wasn't ready.
Overall we had a brilliant time,we had a few cloudy days so we went to the indoor pool.My son only joined in with the kids club when they played where we were but the team were lovely to the children that i saw and very caring and attentive if they hurt themselves.
The animation team were really friendly and always dressed up and happy to sit and have a chat or get you salsa dancing! :-)
Rooms were kept very clean although a few things in the room could do with replacing eg;curtain rail was removing itself from the wall!
The only real bad complaint was the food,it was very much repeated lunch and dinner.I didnt really touch the meat as some you could see clearly wasn't what they were sayin it was but im a massive food lover i didnt complain of being hungry once.Although u do have to buy the ice-cream when your not in the restaurant which i thought was a bit bad! The kids loved it theres a few little shops on site and quite a few trips you can go on such as quad biking. The beach was lovely although they say you get the pedaloes for free but this is only once, for twenty minutes and you have to be persistant to get on one.
We did have a great time and would definately consider returning.

We went as a party of 12, in what was supposed to be 4 separate rooms but there was a mix up and it ended up with 3 rooms, but one had a separate bedroom area, not ideal but nothing could be done. rooms were bright and clean, air conditioning was great in our room but in the other 2 was a bit hit and miss as to whether it decided to work or not.
food was ok at best, some things put out were delicious, though more often than not it was re-heated stuff seemingly put together from the last meals left overs. be very careful of the meats, the chicken was left red and bloody but charred on the outside, we had to be very careful with our kids as to what they ate aswell as there were bits of bone in almost every meat dish. all 4 of our family were ill with stomach bugs for at least 2 days of the 11 we stayed, and as we were only using bottled water, it was very likely it was the food.
the animation team put on fantastic shows, the fire show in particular was awesome, as was their dancing, but during the day we found them to be irritating and would follow the women in our party and bug them for the duration of the holiday with some occassionally rude remarks. they also see no problem with pushing people in the pools with no warning, and taking clothes from around the poolside and wearing them round,so leave nothing unattended!
cleaners were great, very helpful, left us lovely sheet swans on our bed every day with a fresh flower on their head, nice to come into, and would also ask whens best for them to clean without disturbing us.
the whole hotel was clean and tidy, staff were very friendly, especially the waiters, and the kids loved the attention they gave them.
pools nice and clean, water slides a lot of fun, kids loved them, though be careful as they tend to let people shoot down without the last person being out of the way.
overall a nice place to stay, but we wouldnt return there as there was simply not enough to do, the kids were bored after just a few days, even with trips to monastir and the camel trek, spent most of the time in the pools just trying to keep them entertained without being too hot. the taxi drivers drove us mad with their constant begging to take us anywhere as soon as we stepped foot out of the hotel grounds, and the horses with the carts looked miserable and under-fed, heart braking to see them strapped into their carts in the blazing heat of the day with no water or shade. i would say it is not a place to take children under maybe 8-10 years old, so they are old enough to join in properly with the kids clubs, and have fun away from mum and dad. our children are 4 and 5, and were not really quite old enough to make the most of it, even though the kids club is aimed at 4+.
not a place for animal lovers either, with the horses in carts in the blazing sun covered in flies and some foaming at the mouth, the stray malnourished dogs, skinny feral cats, and camels with wire bent around their noses and chains over their faces, i found the whole time quite depressing in this way, i am pleased not to have to see this again.
we wont be returning to tunisia, for the amount the holiday cost us, im sure we could find a far better holiday for the family.

  • Holiday Date:May 2009
  • Advice: We wont return, but ok for a few days just to sample the local way of life.
  • Activities: The Italian restaurant served lovely food, but only 1 visit per person per stay.
