Stylish and serene but a few rough edges
We spent two nights in early August at the Palacio del Bailio and found the hotel to be charmingly eccentric. We picked the hotel based on a recent review in Travel & Leisure and were not disappointed. As another reviewer pointed out the hotel is almost impossible to find if you're arriving by car. Our navigation system had fits and we had to finally abandon the car and approach on foot. Having said that the hotel did send a staff member (perfect English) back with us to retrieve the car and navigate back to the hotel. The staff member... more
Simply amazing!
Spent one of our last nights in Spain here and was delightful with the experience -- truly a 5-star hotel. Our room (we were upgraded for free upon check-in) was spectacular -- ultra-modern and huge with a king bed and a cot and enough room left over to FIT one of the other rooms in other hotels we stayed in. The bathroom is very chic -- almost 3 separate connecting rooms for each facility -- but more for the eye than for use. No countertops for toiletries,,etc. Front desk staff went out of their way to be helpful,, each and every one of... more
Architectural Gem
The Palacio de Bailio is the first five star hotel in Cordoba and it is magnificent. From the architectural beauty to the warmth of the front reception to the lovely minimalist room decoration to the unbelievable dining experience in the courtyard( a glass floor over an old Roman ruin), it is unique and a wonderful experience in itself. An outstanding architectural achievement,it blends antiquity with modern minimalist in an unforced natural ,easy on the eyes way.Old and new is so perfectly melded,as is the virtually entirely under thirty... more
Great hotel and very peaceful.
We just returned from a wonderful 4 day stay. The hotel is housed in an old palace and they have done a fantastic job renovating it. They have maintained much of the old style while re-doing the rest modern. It works great. We found the service to be very helpful and prompt. Our room was clean and well appointed (minimalist but nice). Beds and sheets were very comfortable. We had a nice view over the pool and of a nice orange tree. The hotel was very quite and peaceful - we rested too much (but it was so hot outside there wasn't much else to... more
Very disappointing stay!
Yes this hotel is beautiful and in a good location, but we had a disappoinitng stay and would not recommend this hotel. The hotel is very difficult to find - despite maps, sat-nav and instructions from the hotel. This is further complicated at the moment by the fact that there are road works taking place on the road leading to the hotel. When we did (eventually) find the hotel, we found the hotel staff to be unwelcoming and disorganised. We had to wait a about 15/20 minutes for our room to be organised, and during this time we... more
Come taste Cordoban life!
A quiet inn located close to the city centre and within walking distance of all major cultural attractions. It takes you into the life of Cordobans today and yesterday. Modern with minimalist decor and excellent service and attention. All staff were delightful and went out of their way to be helpful and charming. Nothing was too much trouble in this former palace built over Roman ruins. The ruins are wonderfully displayed through the magnificient glass floor in the main indoor courtyard. We would definitely stay there again. We... more
A brilliantly located haven of peace
Not the easiest to find despite the instructions from the hotel but once we arrived it was a haven of peace. The staff were nothing less than adorable! They were so helpful, friendly and professional although the booking from England was like dealing with Manuel from Faulty Towers so the reality of the staff came as a delightful surprise! The decor is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable, stylish and best of all very quiet. The garden is gorgeous and the small pool is lovely. The hotel is brilliant lypositioned for getting... more
Relaxing stay at Palacio del Bailio
We recently enjoyed a wonderful couple of days at the Palacio del Bailio. From the moment we arrived (having carefully followed the hotel's instructions for arriving by car) we were welcomed by the friendly staff, who instantly fell in love with our 18-month-old baby. We were upgraded to a superior room (although this seemed to be accidental as we were initially charged for it on checking out) which was spacious and comfortable. The bed had wonderful down pillows and the generously sized toiletries based on natural ingredients were the best... more
Expensive but well worth it
After some underwhelming hotels in Seville, we arrived in Cordoba to stay in the Palacio del Bailio. The hotel is simply stunning and after a quick room upgrade (you have to get room 202) we were looking down on the beatiful garden and pool. The service can be a little slow, but the food and drinks were all delicious. In May the weather was beautiful allowing you to chill bu the pool and then pop out for a bit of sightseeing here and there. With two great local restaurants just around the corner you never needed to stray far. One of the best... more
Lovely, but not for the "average" tourist
We stayed here April 17 & 18 2007. The hotel is new and a little tucked away, but all the taxi drivers know where it is. The furnishings are very modern and the place is spotlessly clean. The lounge is built over Roman ruins and has a glass floor you can see through to see the ruins - quite amazing! The hotel is a luxury hotel, but there were so many things that I didn't think were so great. --Our room was tiny - I think we probably had the smallest one (we paid the least of the other guests, I'm sure, so it's ok!). <br... more
