Just returned from 2 weeks at the Coma Gran and what a fantastic holiday we had. The hotel has benefitted from a recent refurbishment and is very clean. The rooms are great and we were lucky enough to have one with an extended balcony overlooking the pool.
The hotel staff are helpful and friendly, and the Thomson reps work very hard day and night to make sure everyone enjoys themselves, so a big thanks goes out to Nick Nack Nickers, Naughty Nikki and Dizzy Del for making sure the evening entertainment kept everyone involved, kids and adults alike. We were up every night and I never thought we'd ever enjoy dancing to Aqua'a 'Cartoon Heroes' as much as we did!
During the day we preferred to go down to the beach rather than sit around the pool. My kids (7 and 5) loved playing in the sea, and although we hired beds and a parasol (EUR4.50 each) I hardly spent anytime out of the water!
My wife is disabled and needs a wheelchair to get around. The hotel is wheelchair friendly and although the lifts are a bit on the small side a wheelchair does fit, unlike the double buggies which don't, so be warned if you are on a high floor and are taking one.
Sa Coma itself is completely accessible includning the beach thanks to a wooden path that leads straight down towards the sea. There was also the added bonus of a buggy being left on the beach each morning which could be used by anyone with limited mobility to go into the sea. It was so easy to pull in and out of the water, and once deep enough floated calmly over the incoming waves. My wife absoulutely loved it as it was the first time she has been able to go into the sea with our children and play. Moments like that are priceless. If only more places catered so well for the disabled.
We stayed self catering and ate out in Sa Coma every night. Although there are quite a few bars and restaurants that are very British, there are also a few that are more relaxed and have a more European feel. Our favourite was the 'El Sol' which is just off the main road behind the Coma Gran. Do not be put off by the man outside trying to persuade you in. The food is great and you won't regret eating there. If you want to try a local dish then I can recommend the Majorcan Salt Cod.
Although as a family we do not like to go to the same place twice, the Coma Gran and resort of Sa Coma will be a very, very hard place to beat.

We stayed at the Coma Gran for 1 week and only wish we could have stayed for 2.
The room was well sized and set out with everything you could need plus being recently refurbished it all felt brand new. The cleaning staff came every day bar wednesday and did a top job every time.
We only ate on site a few times from the pool snack bar as we were self catering but all meals were very nice.
There are plenty of good places to eat in the resort, our favourite was the Atlantic although a little pricey.
The Coma Gran is situated in just the right spot with a supermarket right next door all bars and restraunts within 5 minutes walk. Although the resort is quieter than others nearby like Calla Millor it has just the right amount of things to do, places to eat and drink and definately none of the 18 to 30 delinquents that some resorts are plagued with. Allround a very nice family resort.
The hotel staff are very good and speak good english but the reps and entertainment staff are fantastic. They seem to do there jobs with efficiency, enthusiasm and a big smile on their faces. The one rep who stood out above and beyond all the rest though is Nik from the entertainment staff. He keeps the whole thing going, makes you glad you came and sad your leaving. Nik will keep adults and children so entertained all night and all week along with the rest of the extremely hard working reps.
If you've booked to go to the Coma Gran your going to love it and the surrounding resort especially if youv'e got children as this place has it all for you and them (unless your one of those people who go on holiday to moan).

Just returned from a week at the coma gran.We upgraded to half board fortnight before we flew to mallorca.was the best decision we could have made, food and service was excellent.wide variety of choice and always something different every night.kids buffet was of a good standard and they could always eat off the adults buffet if nothing in the kids section took their fancy.you had to pay for drinks on an evening but at breakfast u had a choice of juices, tea coffee ect.was self service so you could eat as little or as much as you liked.everything was fresh as there was a chef constantly cooking food in front of you.it was that impressive my husband stated he wouldnt go self catering again.
The hotel itself was brilliant.it had just been refurbished so it looked new.our apartment had a new bathroom and the furniture e.g sofa bed, dining table and chairs were new.there is an indoor swimming pool which was used several time as the only thing that let the week down was the weather, which is out of our control.
the kids reps and entertainers were fab,my two girls especially liked wacky wayne and boogie becks.the kids mini discos kept them entertained on an evening and with the kids club and drop in den during the day they were worn out by bed time.
we did have an ant problem but apart from that we had a brilliant time, cant wait to go back.

Situation brilliant, gorgeous beach close by and plenty to do. Not far from nearby towns such as S'illot, so great for venturing out. Really recommend going to caves of drach - they are amazing.
Unfortunately it is the same food served in all of the restaurants in the area so it becomes very boring after a couple of days, it is really british food too so again, boring!
I was totally freaked by the amount of ants and silverfish in the room, and even more freaked when, after waiting a great deal of time for someone to attend to the ants, a woman came to the room and sprayed fly spray without warning in the presence of my young baby! For one, I would have appreciated some warning so that I could remove my baby from the apartment whilst she sprayed the harmful substance, and also to see her use some ant repellant rather than fly spray??!!!
Rooms are very basic and dated, but i hear they are revamping the place in 2008?

Brilliant. No complaints at all, perfect holiday if you have kids with you. Thomson Reps were outstanding they kept us and the kids occupied and entertained all week, "Desperate Dan" you’re the man. Fantastic lad kids loved him, if you want a hassle free holiday with the kids the kids zone reps are excellent.
Now to the food, can’t say enough have had HB in loads of places including 5 star yet the Coma Gran blew them away, food was fresh and some dishes cooked in front of you, not cheap stuff we had sirloin steak, massive prawns, roast beef/pork chicken, salad, and the desserts were lovely as well
I have read all the reviews on the site all the low rated ones moan about Sa Coma, we had no problems, maybe best time of year to go the week before half term as it wasn’t manic.
We even had a good sea view and overlooked the pool.
Anyway take a chance nice staff great reps great food nice resort.

Hotel great, rooms cleaned 6 days a week, excellent staff, cant fault nothing about the hotel or the reps. Food for the kids and me and the wife great. Pool clean and tidy, local transport great buses , taxis. The beach is a five minute walk. I would give this a miss, the sea is clean but the sand is one huge ashtray, all right if you want sandcastle with 100s fag buts in it. Not nice for kids. We had a great holiday and will be back but won’t be going to the beach.

Hi, what a fantastic holiday we all had, we took our kids aged 12 and 16 and we all had great fun.
The Coma Gran is an excellent hotel to stay in especially for the kids with the Thomson family it’s great for the young ones; the reps are really good and they put a good show on for the kids. Our 12 year old enjoyed Thomson the dog she was doing all the dance moves it was fun, they also put on a good night entertainment which was good for the adults.
The hotel is nice and clean, staff are polite and there is a nice big pool and an inside pool which was OK too.
The beach is 5 mins away and what a lovely beach it is, we went swimming in the sea it was lovely and cool lukewarm not cold.
Would definitely recommend it especially for the kids 10/10

Will definitely go back next year, price permitting after hotel revamp for2008.
This hotel has everything and more especially if you have little ones, our daughter is 5 and she loved this place, tots and kidz zone reps were very good, as to where the main entertainment reps desperate Dan, lea lea leanne and wicked wendy, work ever so hard to keep us entertained.
Hotel was clean and rooms to' although a little dated, hence refurb for 2008. Pool was cold but once in there you got used to it, best jumping in rather than thinking about it!!
Resort was ok very quiet but suited us although Britannia was popular and always busy especially on football night! Loved the beech 5 mins walk, no trouble with lucky lucky men selling stuff just ignore them, hired car for three days if get chance I would recommend it roads are fine and once you get your bearings its easier than driving over here.
Food at restaurant really good plenty of choice, as chefs cook in front of you, very clean kitchen, staff no problem at all speak English pretty good and most helpful.
Will try and get back next year FOR SURE.

Awful, awful, awful.
This hotel epitomised everything that is bad about Brits abroad.
Sun loungers snapped up at 7.30am (from my balcony I saw the same woman 7 mornings on the trot, at 7.30am, reserve the same 10 - yes, 10 - sun beds. The hotel should have a strict no reserving policy. No excuses).
Granted the hotel was clean, but the rooms are incredibly dated and very basic.
No complaints about any of the staff.
As for Sa Coma itself, and excluding the beach, it is an absolute dump - unless that is all you are interested in when visiting a foreign country is to visit 'English pubs' to eat chips, chips, chips, a full English, or a Sunday roast dinner whilst sat in a replica football shirt, tattoos on display and reading The Sun.
There are far too many hotels for a place as small as Sa Coma.
I've already booked my holiday next year and we'll be going back to a Villa with a private pool nestled amid olive and lemon trees on a Greek Island.
Never Again.

Just arrived back from the Coma Gran and we've had a fab time! Our 2 year old has loved every minute and the hotel is so good for kids her age and older.
The pool is fantastic, plenty of room and although people do go and nab their sunbeds early on, it's only the ones directly up to the poolside so there were always more to choose from (still in the sun!).
The staff at the hotel have been great, especially in the restaurant, they were so friendly and attentive.
The food was excellent with loads of choice and there is a special children's buffet with the usual kiddie favourites, chicken nuggets, spag bol, peas etc. our daughter loved going choosing her meal as it was at kiddie height too.
The reception staff deal quickly with any issues in rooms (we had no kitchen plug) and they've got answers for any queries or info you might need, bus timetables etc.
The rooms were immaculately clean on arrival and cleaned for 6 days out of 7. There is a big refurbishment programme starting at the end of the summer season so all rooms will be done up for summer 2008 but our room was lovely anyway. The windows have big blackout curtains so room was still in pitch dark at 8am which was great for a lie in!
An absolute gem is what the Thomson reps call 'the swap box.’ At the end of your holiday, anything you have left over or don't want to take home can be left at the swap box for future holidaymakers to use.
I forgot to take a bucket and spade and cursed as I'd have to buy yet another one but in the swap box there were buckets and spades galore plus anything else you could possibly think of, toothpaste, sun cream, after sun, parasols, windbreakers, armbands, rubber rings, snorkels etc etc. We bought our daughter a dinghy for 6 Euros and it just wasn't worth deflating it and packing it up (it was huge!) so into the swap box it went.
One morning I thought someone had forgot their shopping as there were 2 carrier bags full of food stuff, tea bags, coffee, full packets of biscuits, tins and even some cans and bottles of San Miguel! Needless to say they didn't hang around for long!
The reps are all great and must work really hard, they never seem to be away. Although our daughter was too young for the kids clubs (there is a crèche to use if you want), she could still enjoy all the evening entertainment and times during the day when Thomson the dog appeared.
Do go out and about in the resort and beyond. The beach is gorgeous and so clean. Do NOT buy the fruit from the beach sellers. We walked into S'Illiot, took an open top bus into Cala Bona and walked back into Cala Millor (both lovely), went on a boat trip to Calas de Mallorca (well worth 20 Euros each, child free, as it lasted all day), hired a pedelo out and a 4 seater bike. We would absolutely go back again.
