" I echo what everyone says about the... "

I echo what everyone says about the staff, on the alpharooms review pages, they are the most friendly people in Majorca. I stayed with my Husband for 10 days. There is nothing bad you could possibly say, spotlessly clean hotel in every respect, lovely comfortable double bed, fantastic sea view from balcony. The breakfast laid out in the morning has everything you could possibly want - continental cold meats, cheese, tomatoes, fruit, a few different types of bread for toasting, filter coffee, various types of tea to choose from and they actually taste good because the water is boiling hot, selection of cereals, different cakes everyday, scrambled eggs, beans, bacon I could go on and on. This was out first time at Santa Ponsa and I would definitely return. We did not eat at the Hotel although plenty of other guests were so I can't comment on the Eve meals. There are so many restaurants and Bars to choose from close to the Hotel some of our favourites were the Italian (can't remember the name - blue and yellow tablecloths), Kelly's on the Corner excellent service and menu, a Bailey's cheesecake to die for! Fat Sams do great American Diner food but we felt guilty for wasting so much the portions are huge. There were plenty more we did not have time to try. The beach is literally minutes from the Hotel and has plenty of room 3 euros for a bed. We only had one or two nights when loud music kept us awake but this was mainly because there was a festival weekend and a funfare was set up, in the park around the beach. It is certainly at the quiet end of the resort as I cannot imagine you get much sleep if you stay in the irish quarter. All in all great holiday

" First went here in 2004, the staff... "

First went here in 2004, the staff are so lovely and the room was at the side, so no noise!

Went back in 2005. Now booked again for 2007!

Very clean room and pool, can’t wait to go back, recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday.

Everything’s at your door step, beach, pool, shops and bars... also, the hotel has its own beauty therapist- ready to give a large selection of massages! I never knew this on my last visit so I know were I’m heading next time!

The lady on the desk is very polite, always willing to help! - My Nan actually cried on the leaving day!!

All in all I'd give this beautiful little hotel 10/10! Oh yeah- Thomsons were also really good with loads of places planned to go out if you like markets and the marine life!

" As far as I am aware, Airtours do not... "

As far as I am aware, Airtours do not feature this hotel & there are no 18-30 groups in Santa Ponsa. (At least I don't think so!) No noise until 4am either as the bar closes at 2!

In fact, I sleep better there than I do at home!

I have stayed at the Playas del Rey for the last 4 or 5 years with my wife & daughter & last year (2006) I stayed on 4 occasions, twice on my own. (Oct 2006 was my last visit).

I spoke to one woman who told me it was her 32nd visit! We have also met other people who were there on our previous visits. I think that tells its own story.

The hotel features in Thomson's Small & Friendly brochure & it does exactly what it says on the can!

OK. There is maybe a problem with the swimming pool not getting too much sunlight due to surrounding buildings, but that is the only "fault" I can think of but I don't swim so I'm not that bothered!

The staff are fantastic & will go out of their way to help you. I read another review which said the staff had limited English. They are Spanish & German & possibly their English is better than some who stay there! (Only joking.)

OK, it's not a hotel for teenagers but if you want to chill out in a friendly & relaxed atmosphere, go!

And if you have read in another review section that it is up steep hill-absolute rubbish! At best, a slight incline.

If you are going, tell Gisela & Hanneh on reception that Dave from St. Anne’s sends his love! I thank you.

" Awful! We came to this hotel as part... "

Awful! We came to this hotel as part of a cruise and stay, on our honeymoon, I just cried.

The area has a lot of 18-30 clubs, so there are a lot of young people about, which is fine but the noise comes with it.

There was no air conditioning in our room so we had the door to the balcony open, but we couldn’t sleep due to the noise, it went quiet from around 4 in the morning.

Hence we moved to Cala bona in the morning which is fantastic, would 100 % recommend.

" We stayed in this hotel for a week in... "

We stayed in this hotel for a week in mid-2005 as a cheap getaway.

Once we had finally got there after a scary ride through the dubious sites & smells of Magalluf [!] we found ourselves in the quiet and relaxed resort of Santa Ponsa.

The hotel was well kept - nice courtyard with plenty of sunbeds and plants, no rubbish and a swimming pool rather than a 'fun-pool'. Literally about two minutes from the beach.

Throughout our week the staff were always polite and courteous - very helpful when it came to renting a car to go around the island. This is well worth the minimal expense [about GBP50 for two days] but make sure you go clockwise if you do a tour or you will end up driving close the edge on the narrow windy roads.

The food was pretty ok - cereal, toast, fruit & eggs for breakfast. Many of the other guests complimented the hotel food but as there are so many great eateries its seems a shame not to eat out every night...

The only slight issue we had was that the lift shaft mechanism was situated between our door and our bathroom, which proved a little too noisy on the first morning. Having said that, we spoke to the receptionists who were only too quick to relocate us to a room with a view of the Santa Ponsa bay on the opposite side of the hotel so no complaints there.

All in all a great hotel and value for money - well recommended to those who like the night life of a nearby town but still want a quiet retreat when it suits for relaxing and catching the rays.

" Just returned from visit to Playas... "

Just returned from visit to Playas Del Ray hotel in Santa Ponsa, lovely small hotel with a very friendly atmosphere, good food, lovely traditional Spanish rooms, high standards of cleanliness situated at the quieter end of the resort with shops and eating places on your doorstep. All of the staff were friendly but we were particularly impressed with the receptionist who gave us a lovely greeting whenever we saw her and when we left even gave us a cuddle, you don’t get the too often!! We would be happy to go back anytime.

" Very nice hotel. Friendly staff.... "

Very nice hotel. Friendly staff. Rooms are good with air conditioning. Towels changed regularly and rooms are cleaned every day.
There is a roof terrace where there are plenty of sun loungers. The pool area was clean and there were plenty of sun loungers there too.

The hotel is close to the beach, which is lovely. Breakfast was fine on the few occasions we got up early enough .The usual such as bacon, scrambled and boiled eggs, cereals, fruit, tea, coffee and fruit juices on offer.

There was some evening entertainment the lounge bar but we didn’t catch any as we mostly dined out in Santa Ponsa then went in different places for our entertainment.

I would really recommend this hotel if you’re looking for relaxing laid back holiday in pleasant surroundings.
