Barcelo Malaga

Originally only chose the hotel because we got a good deal on Expedia and were looking for a convenient spot to stay after taking the train from Seville for our flight home to Malaga. We were expecting that, as usual, that the rooms would bear little resemblance to reality, but we were wrong. The hotel has a genuine design edge with efficient but friendly staff and funky touches like the slide down from the first floor help to stop it being pompous or `cold' - what fun to watch businessman sliding down after a little evening... more

What a way to spend a 50th Birthday. The hotel was new, very modern and just fantastic. The hotel was in the new shopping centre and train station and not a sound was heard. during the 3 nights we stayed. The rooms were big and spacious and bright. Breakfast was just out of this world and the staff were exceptional. I really loved going down the slide from the 1st to the ground floor. I would recommend the hotel to anyone and it is even better this time of year with the great deals that are on offer.

I booked through barcelo.com and received a reservation voucher by email but when I got to the hotel they had no reservation in their system for me. The receptionist was not happy about this and huffed and puffed like it was my fault, she found me a room so it was a drama over nothing which gave me a bad first impression of the hotel. Stayed for one night. We booked a double. At check-in we were given a twin (in case you're wondering, yes we're a couple of different sex). We walked down and asked for a double. They apologised and gave us another room. Get back again, and it's another twin. Down again, queue again for another 15mins. "Sorry we have no more doubles available". When I pointed out I booked a double not a twin they said they "NEVER GUARANTEE A DOUBLE - CAN ONLY TRY AND ACCOMMODATE IT". Only stayed one night but i would recommend this hotel to anybody. Right on the railway station easy access to the airport and the beaches if you want to explore Torremolinos, Benalmadena etc. Good location for shopping, giant Mall just 5 mins walk. Benalmadena 1.80 Euro, Airport 1.14 Euro on the train so don't bother with taxis. Ultra modern spotless rooms, with huge beds, plasma TV. The hotel is immaculate as it has just open. Very funky and good sized rooms. Good breakfast and in a good location (not pretty, lots of building, BUT 15 mins walk and you are in the heart of Malaga at the cathedral). The walk is perfectly safe day or night. The service was poor as the reception desk is tiny (2 people) and all room service requests go through them - they can't cope with it. Had an awesome stay! Although not 5*, this hotel was one of our favs... Really nice rooms with cool gizmo's such as remote control blinds, TV sound speakers in the bathroom and really great buffet breakfast. Manu, one of the guys at reception was also extremely helpful and gave us many great tips... You can catch the train from the airport to the Hotel (get off at the Renfe Malaga stop) for under 2 euros or go to beaches by train and explore the coastline from there with cheap train.

Ultra modern hotel right above Renfe Station in Malaga. Take the train from Malaga Airport direct to hotel for about Euro 1.15!! Free internet, via 3 terminals on 1st floor, wireless available throughout.. Rooms have big beds, plush bathroom, flat screen television with separate sound controls in bathroom! we arrived late at night so we got a taxi straight from the airport to our hotel which was 20 euros onl about a 15 min drive.This hotel is so modern and very funky the decor is out of this world we loved it. The hotel room was fantastic very light airy and very modern with a brill electronic black out window blind. The staff were very polite and informative. We stayed for just 1 night at the Barcelo Malaga in June 2007. The hotel was less than 2 weeks old. Extremely modern design and layout and it even had slide / slippery dip to get from the 1st floor to the ground floor. Not in the best part of town but the hotel more than made up for the location.
