Abbatial Saint Germain

We truly could not have been more pleased with this hotel. Anyone who says it's noisy must have ears like a bat because we didn't hear a sound the five nights we stayed. The room was spotless and the air conditioning worked perfectly (we were in room 31). The front desk staff spoke perfect English and were very polite. The location was great; many shops & cafes and only two blocks from the magnificent Notre Dame! Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of June. Did not have the breakfast so cannot comment on it, otherwise everything was acceptable or better. The room was a decent size and the bathroom was clean, but the shower was a bit under powered. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. You could likely find a comparable hotel in the area for 15-20 euro cheaper per night, but all in all this hotel definitely provides value for money.

Our stay was June 1-5, 2005. We too did a lot of research and decided to stay here at the Abbiatial, mostly due to the fact that I like this area and the positive reviews on this site. I made our reservations in March and had the confirmations all printed out, however, when we arrived at the hotel, we were told, sorry we do not have this reservation and the hotel was full!!! Great location for sights and restaurants. Very close to the metro for visiting sights all over the city. The hotel staff was friendly and polite, all spoke English. Rooms are small, but adequate and clean. Bathrooms were very clean and well maintained as well. There is a safe in the room for valuables if you are inclined. All, Staying at Abbatial St. Germain was a very good experience. Other posts about the lift are probably correct that it sometimes is out of order, but I feel some exercise is good. I pay $100 a month to use a stair stepper at my club and working out on the stairs was free. Good breakfast and friendly people. We just returned from Paris and stayed at this hotel. The only negative is that the walls are a little thin and you can hear other guests come and go. So what. What it has going for it is small comfortable and CLEAN rooms including a nice stand up shower. The windows are double paned so they block most traffic noise. Also the rooms have little balconies. We just returned from Paris and loved the Abbatial Saint Germain. It was convenient to Metro stops and walking distance to many of the major sights including Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Luxemburg Gardens. We walked to the Champs Elysees and took the Metro back. The hotel was clean; the Superior rooms are big for European standards. I looked next door at a standard room while it was being cleaned and was small by American standards but average for European. Thanks to postings on this site, there were few surprises. Location is outstanding - in the heart of the Latin/St Germain quarter which is much less touristy and yet close to everything including the scenic Seinne River (spell?). My wife had an injured leg so we used taxi transport but subway system was close by. Owners were very helpful and recommended delightful local restaurants where the food was outstanding. the pros: 1. relatively low price -- 95 euros/night (about $120) 2. very nice view from our room #57 3. pretty good location the cons: 1. the bathroom didn't have a true door, so there was little privacy 2. the walls are thin, so you can hear conversations in neighboring rooms 3. the beds are small -- i'm not sure they do king or queen size in europe -- and not very comfortable 4. the room was too small 5. the room was too warm and there was no AC 6. the bedspread had a large cigarette burn... more
