Was Pleasantly Surprised
from A TripAdvisor Member
When my wife and I finally arrived at Victorian House after being 4.5 hrs late on arrival, it was truly a welcome sight. We knew before going on our first visit to DR that the 4* rating might not be the same as in the US, so we were under expecting. But we truly enjoyed everything about Victorian House, even with the few annoyances such as electric going out briefly and no hot water a couple times. But the view, the food, the personell and the relaxation was more than we were expecting. No, it's not like the Mariott Marquee in New York,...

fun-filled getaway

We just returned from the lovely Victorian House at Sosua Bay. We were lucky to have perfect weather, hot and sunny every day with rain only twice and only during the nighttime. It is very humid there, but you have the option of 2 pools or the ocean to cool off in. The atmosphere was very nice and the resort was a nice size, not too big, not too small. The food was excellent, both in the buffet as well as in the restaurants. We made reservations ahead for dinners in the Italian, Tex/Mex, and Asian restaurants, and we were delighted with all...

Amenities are not what is advertised

We just returned one week ago after staying at the Victorian House. The resort area is very beautiful with a gorgeous view of Sosua Bay from the open air dining room and all of the beautiful decks and levels with a very Spanish design. Lots of terracotta tile. It was more than 2 hours before we could get into a room and relax. Our reservations were for a 2 bedroom suite and we were told they didn't have one available. We were put into a one bedroom with furniture that was really ratty. We requested a change and were given a better room. (one...

The Good, The Bad & the Real Ugly
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed at the Victorian House/Sousa (exchanged RCI) during the 1st week of November 2005. The Good: The weather was beautiful. However it may be too muggy for some. It was very hot and muggy and you need at least a couple of showers a day. The hotel staff kept the room pretty nice and clean. The staff was also very friendly. It is a real plus if you know Spanish and tip them a few dollars to keep your fridge really stocked with everything! The live band at night is great! Enjoy their true DR style. The water was...

A Memorable Adventure!
from pixiegrl
We stayed @ Victorian House from January 15-22, 2005; we booked with Go Travel Direct which was a fairly seamless process altogether. FLIGHT: We were surprised to discover that our charter flight was not "Zoom Airlines" as outlined in the brochure, but instead "Excel Airways" from Great Britain. The flight crew were very pleasant and accommodating in our opinion. The inflight meal was basic but good. Of special note: If you have pre-assigned seating, you may not necessarily get these seats should the plane type be changed, as in our...

The good and the bad
from Cloudbreaker39
I was there Jan19-26. The rooms were nice, air conditioned and bug free. Hot water was sketchy and I had to have a number of cold showers during my stay - it wasn't that all the hot water was used up by guests, there just wasn't any hot water in the pipes! A couple of times per day the power kicks out but that is normal in that area, and the power is usually restored in minutes. Staff are friendly and the hotel grounds are nice. The street in front of the hotel is in bad shape and there is a half constructed eyesore in front of the...

victorian house / sousa bay review

vacation to victorian house/ sousa bay hotel January 14-21 2005. My Husband and I went on vacation with my mother and father. My parents have a timeshare through rci. We stayed in the Vicitorian House section of the resort. We had a two-bedroom suite. I thought the room was nice. The biggest room had a king size bed, and an attached jacuzzi tub/shower. I thought the mattress in that room was a bit hard. The other room in the suite had two qeeen size beds and an attached bathroom with shower. We had to have the maid bring us a new...

In Love with Sosua Bay and Victoria House
from A TripAdvisor Member
My family and I just returned from the Sosua Bay Hotel/Victorian House. (July 22nd -29th) We did an exchange with RCI and stayed in the Victorian House in a one bedroom unit all inclusive. The whole property is just stunning, and it was more then we expected. When we arrived at the Victorian House the staff was professional and very gracious. We were treated to cool scented towels and lemonaide. Our room was lovely and we had a partial one bedroom ocean view with a balcony. Every afternoon around 4pm hor'dourves are served in the...

Saddened by Sosua
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband, 8 yr. old son and I stayed at the Victorian House in Sosua Bay during Christmas in December 2003. Our trip unfortunately was not what we had expected. The web sites of this Hotel were very misleading; ie the photos showed a deck in front of the hotel with lawn chairs and all we saw was an unsafe wharf in the middle of repairs. The superior rooms showed a beautiful patio with a hot tub; and when we looked down from our room to see the superior rooms; we couldn't believe our eyes. The hot tubs were full of dirt and the patios were...

VIctorian House and Sousa Bay Resort

I had booked a room at the Victorian house because I had a week booked at there time share Club Sabatini, aka Sousa Bay Hotel. I arrived at the hotel via the free shuttle which made us wait 45 minutes for two additional passengers that never arrived. Was greeted with a cool towel to wipe off with and glass of lemonade, very nice. The young lady at desk did not speak much english and checked us in. We were told to go to the other building the next day as that is where are time share would be. The other building was much prettier and newere....
