Valentin Imperial Maya

Just returned from the Valentin and it is fantastic! Everything is top notch at this place, the food, the service, the pool, the beach. We loved this place and would return without question. We were there from Jan. 20-25. We stayed at the Excellence (when it was still Secrets Excellence) hotel a couple years ago and loved it, but this place is even better. January 12th to the 19th Getting There: Traveled from Vancouver to Cancun via Skyservice. If you had any other choice to getting there, take it. Sitting in these very limited leg room seats for 6 hours is not a great way to start your vacation. And having to wait an additional hour on the plane at the airport waiting for an arival time in Cancun just added to a growing frustration. The final straw was the food. My husband and I spent 6 nights at the Valentin Imperial Maya resort the second week of January. We had a fantastic, short nonstop flight on a charter from Detroit that left at 6am, but that meant that we arrived at the resort at 10am, and of course our room was not ready. However, there were less than 200 guests at the resort at the time, and they have enough rooms for 4 times that many, from my observations. What a pleasant trip! We stayed in Valentin for 4 days between Jan 9 and 13, 2008 and we truly loved it. When we arrived (which was an earlier check-in around 1:00pm), the bellboy welcomed us and took our luggages right away. While serving us a glass of champagne, a host brought us to the front desk for check-in procedure. Once we arrived to our room, the luggages were there already await for us. I was fortunate enough to visit the Mayan for new years 2008. We stayed at the newly opened Valentin Imperial Maya. Our stay was nothing short of incredible. At the time we visited I guess you could say that the resort was still in the "soft opening" stages but you would have never guessed it. It's just not ready for business. We took our 4 grown children (21-27) for a much awaited family vacation. Entertainment and Night club was a necessity. There was no nightlife them for them at all. The only thing available was a so called sports bar that did not have satellite. Every activity we booked was cancelled and the only entertainment the hotel arranged was a casino night and guess what? it was cancelled. I read all the post and I have to say that when I'm in vacation I don't care about a sscratch on furniture...This is not why I'M there...OK I agree, we lost electricity for 2 or 3 seconds..who cares your in vacation. This is an amazing place and believe me it will become a 4 diamonds place. This resort is brand new and still has some significant kinks to work out. Out of the 14 buildings that make up the resort only two are ready for occupancy and even these have issues. Check-in took forever - this was especially maddening since it was 11:00PM. On the positive side, champagne was served while we were waiting. We arrived at the Valentin Imperial Maya on December 28 and stayed for a week. From our experience, this hotel does some things very well (food, pool, for example), but we encountered many challenges and frustrations with the room itself and with the management. We originally booked a junior gardenview suite, but when we arrived, we were given an upgrade to an oceanview suite.
