We have just returned from a glorious week at the Marina Torrenova. Hotel although on a hill (which did not bother us) was in a good location just away from the noise of Magaluf. It was clean, all hotel staff were friendly. Food was ok, plenty of choice for breakfast and evening meals there was choice with a carvery some nights. We had a room overlooking the back road, which was quite nice as not much noise at all. You had to be up at 8.30am if you wanted a sun bed near the pool to watch the kids. Sun was not over the pool til lunchtime, but you make the most of other amenities around you until then, we went for walks along both beaches and had a ride on a motor boat. Entertainment was good for the kids, my daughter loved it and is still doing 'Big Fish'! Nice to have a fridge in the room that was free!! Rooms were clean etc. We all had a really good holiday and enjoyed Magaluf and Palma Nova. Would recommend this hotel for families etc.

Overall had a good holiday, one thing...

Overall had a good holiday, one thing that we did not like about the hotel is the big steep hill. We had an infant in a pushchair and found the hotel very inaccesible with the pushchair.
We found the food to be plesant with quite alot of choice although for a family hotel it did not have enough highchairs to cater for the number of small childeren. One morning at breakfast we could only find one highchair but it had no straps in and our baby ended up falling out of it.
Our room was clean and the general appearence of the hotel was clean and tidy. The staff were all freindly although there was not enough spaces to sit on an evening to enjoy a drink in the bar.
We did not watch any entertainment as it the main shows all started at 22.00 which I believe is to late for childerens entertainment.
The resort itself was clean and the beach was lovely, but I wouldn't return to this hotel or the resort.

I came to this hotel in the second...

Jun 2008, Miss K Greener

I came to this hotel in the second week of June with my boyfriend for one week.
We arrived at around 10.30pm and were checked in by friendly, helpful reception staff who told us how to get to our room and to the dining room.
Our room was on the top (7th) floor and we had a great view of the pool, Magaluf and Palma Nova. It had two single beds pushed together with a sofa bed by the balcony door. There was a dressing table with a mirror but this would have been more useful if there was a plug next to it! There was also a tv (with BBC1 and ITV) and a fridge.
We went straight out to have a look around the resort as we hadn't been before. We came down the steep hill and at the bottom (where Mulligans is) turned left to find 'The Strip' with all the bars - I didn't realise it would be so close! Drink prices at the bars seem expensive for everything that isn't local beers/lagers but I realised after ordering that vodka comes by the pint here! Same with most cocktails. Alcopops tended to be 2 for 6/7 euros and Magners was 6 euros a bottle at night! Prices were cheaper through the day.
Breakfast was very good - they had something for everyone: cereal, toast, cold meats, cheese, bread buns, sausages, bacon, eggs, fried bread, fruit yoghurts and even cakes! They had a juice machine and a coffee machine too.
The evening meal was not so good - they had a large selection but nothing tasted right, especially all the meat as it was either pink or grey inside! They have a section which is different every night but this was often a carvery with awful meat and yorkshire puddings which were more like bread! I actually resorted to having the kids food - chicken nuggets and cheese toasties! The desserts were average, some cakes were quite nice but they sometimes don't have signs so you don't know what they are. They also have a small freezer with ice cream portions in (this took some finding!).
Also, I would avoid the soup! The croutons are the leftover fried bread from the morning and on the first night I tried the poultry soup - it tasted like an ash tray!
No drinks are provided with the evening meal as you have to purchase them at extortionate prices so I brought my own every night but no-one said anything.
We only stayed for the night time entertainment one night as it was very wet and thundery outside. We went down about 9pm but the kids entertainment was still going on, it was packed with no seats available and screaming kids running into everyone. The main entertainment started at 10pm and we eventually managed to find a seat after some families left. This was a magician show. It was ok and you were left wondering how they did things but they dragged them out that you just ended up getting bored - they only did about 5 tricks in 45mins.
As people have mentioned in previous reviews, the sunbeds do all get reserved quite quickly but we don't get up early enough to see people queueing. We did struggle to get two sunbeds together at any time of day when the weather is nice though.
In my opinion, the reps were not very helpful to us. We had a cloudy day and wanted something to do so one suggested the House of Katmandu. We didn't take much money with us and knew it was quite expensive so wanted to know if it would be worth it but were only told 'its a house of mystery and has optical illusions and landmarks made from matchsticks' we decided to go anyway but it was not worth the 15 euros we paid (the rep said that was cheaper than door price!) to get in as it was quite short and was really just a museum - why couldn't the rep have just told us this!
We went to the BCM nightclub in Magaluf one night and this was great! Its 25 euros to get in (30 on fri or sat) but once your in, drinks (san miguel, local spirits and draft mixers and cocktails) are all free! It is open from 10pm until 6am (but I got dragged home at 3.30am, my boyfriend couldn't last any longer!) and if you pay before 12am you get a free gift which for us was a BCM tshirt, bag and sweatband. Its well worth the money considering how much you can spend on a night out back home.
We were told that Western Water Park was better than Aqualand so we went there. We decided not to buy the tickets off the reps as we'd picked up a voucher for 5 euros off elsewhere. We asked the rep where to get the free bus but she didn't know if they were running or not so we decided to walk...... ended up the complete wrong direction in some residential area (in the trees to the left of Magaluf, oops) but climbed to the top of a hill to see it and headed that direction. Western Park was dead quiet so we didn't really have to wait in many queues for rides. It was ok but should have been a bit cheaper. It was 5 euros to rent a locker plus a 2 euro deposit but we got a free bag. The sea lion show was not very good but we got told that they were scared of the thunder and lightning from the night before.
We visited Palma Aquarium too. We decided that we were going to go the same day Thomson did the day trip but when we asked, they had already left. We were told it would be 35 euros for a taxi or we could get a bus then a taxi. We decided to get a bus to Palma (only 2.65) then from there we took a bus to the aquarium (1.10) but it was hard work finding the stop for the second bus! The Aquarium was 18.50 but it was very good. Much better than the Sea Life Centre! This trip managed to fill a whole day.
Both of the beaches are only a 5 min walk from the hotel. I would say Palma Nova beach is best for older people and those with young kids as there is a nice prom and a few parks just set back from the beach. Palma Nova beach seems very clean with nice sand. Magaluf beach is better for young adults, the sand isn't as nice as Palma Nova but there are many beachfront bars and restaurants and you can take a pedalo out the island for 9 euros an hour (which we did!)
The shops are full of tat really - there isn't much to buy friends, family or even yourself and alcohol isn't that much cheaper than back home.
Overall, I had an alright time in Palma Nova and Magaluf and it would have been better if the weather had been nicer for the week but things in the resorts are quite expensive so it wasn't the cheap holiday we expected.
The Marina Torrenova is a nice, clean hotel with mostly friendly staff and good facilities - the fridge in the room was a real bonus as it even had a small freezer compartment. The room was a good size for two people but I can see it being a squash with more. This hotel is best for families with young children. The main reasons I am unlikely to return are:
The location of the hotel - it gets annoying walking up and down that hill!
The quality of the food

Stayed for ten days at the marina...
8 / 10
Jun 2008, Miss RP Pentney

Stayed for ten days at the marina torrenova with my boyfriend, on arrival the reception is very nice and the reception staff are always very helpful. I have to say i was slightly dissapointed with the room as it was quite dark and my bedside table was covered in a kind of white scale where a kettle had been and we got a view from our balcony of the back road. However it had a fridge and hairdryer and beds were comfortable. The hotel reps here worked very hard and children would love it. We found the adult entertainment which starten at 10.00 pm very entertaining although if you got to bar area late it was hard to find a seat. Being honest if butlin style type of entertainment and people arent your style i wouldnt come here as some of it was quite cheesy. Bar area and pool area was very clean and supervised by a life guard. We always managed to get a sunbed as we were not bothered about being right at the pool edge. One thing we found was that on first look at restaurant they had a great choice for everyone but the things we normally liked all had a funny taste and the quality was poor we found it very bad so we then ate out everynight and we could not continue eating the food that we had. Desserts are good they have jelly, bread and butter pudding, fruit, yoghurts and ice cream and much more.
Entertainment in the daytime is nice as it gives children and adults something to do and you can win prizes.
If you like an early bed time or like peace and quiet this is not the place hotel entertainment goes on until midnight in are room on third floor we could hear it still when we went to bed and then you get everyone coming back to their rooms shouting and children running up and down the corridors.
The thai cleaning ladies also talk very loudly in morning and when we locked the door and were still in bed they were banging on the door and trying to unlock it!!!!
Reps are very good in sorting out excursions for you and answering any queries. It is also good that you can buy icecreams and lunch from the hotel so you dont need to venture out although shops and stores just a minute away.
Rooms are cleaned everyday and are sheets were changed once. Rooms have air conditioning.
The hill that people talk about to get to beach and shops is not bad at all, although when people talk about this hill i think they mean the one that is situated when you turn right out of the hotel as this is steep but you DONT have to go this way to get to beach and shops ect and you can turn left out of the hotel to get to them to the left of the hotel there is a slight incline but anyone under 50 who finds this hard should get a health check or are probably overweight as it not bad at all!!!!!
We liked the resort of palma nova as there were so many shops and restaurants and the beaches were very nice. You do have to pay for the sunloungers on the beach.
We did walk into magaluf as the attractions are there such as pirates, house of katmandu and the water parks magaluf is not as bad as people make out.
While there we went to pirates uncut which is for over 18's, there is also one for families as well, i can not tell you how amazing the pirate show is i was expecting some sort of pantomime thing but it is not we were blown away i highly recommend this to everyone i would go to majorca just for a day to see this again!!
western water park was very clean and the rides very thrilling i am wimp so i did get scared all the staff were very nice apart from one girl who got moody as we couldnt understand her speaking spanish!! Something for everyone here and the children would love it.
Marine land we enjoyed seeing the dolphins and sealion show and other animals but felt it wasnt really worth the money as we had looked everywhere after an hour! It is very small place!
Palma cathedral is very magnificent but i wouldn't pay for the excursion again as we basically paid for the coach journey as we were only there till one o clock not worth the money at all.
Caves of Drach these were very good and you get to listen to the band playing on the underwater lake this was the east coast trio excursion we also went to a market (animals are not kept very well upsetting) and up the top of a mountain the view was amazing very good for pictures!
I recommend the maritmo restaurant it is on the beach front up some stairs quality food biggest steak i have ever had, all meat is massive! Also recommend viceroys which is along that way too. best tasting steak ever and so tender everything they do is fresh too.
I did enjoy my stay although there were the bad points i would go back to palma nova again but a different hotel with reps. Santa Lucia and son matias looked very nice!
Hope this helps people.

Jun 2008, Mrs A DUCKWORTH

resort - lovely, very clean and safe beaches. i must however mention the hill - no one told me i had to bring my walking boots with me. the best way of tackling the hill is by taxi (about 4 euros from magaluf or palma nova)
shops - all same the usual tacky blackpool-type rubbish that you would not want to receive as a souvenir.
food in resort - every cafe seems to have the same food on the menu and it becomes a little tiresome. cost of eating out has increased a great deal and mallorca is no longer the cheap holiday resort that it used to be.
hotel marina torrenova - our room was very clean but basic. the room was a bit too small for a family of 4. the bed was very uncomfortable and my daughters bed collapsed several times. my family and i had a couple of restless nights due to the poor quality mattresses and we would have slept better on a pool side sunbed. not enough pillows however, the hotel provided loads of towels in the rooms and we used them for make-shift pillows.
staff were friendly.
food wasnt the best, in fact it was a little disappointing. breakfasts were definately the best meal of the day - a really good choice and lots of fresh fruit, different breads, cereals, english and continental breakfasts to choose from, although i did wonder why we had battered onion rings and chicken nuggets on the breakfast menu on two days.
dinner menu was a bit disappointing - a lot of the same every day and if i see pears in chocolate sauce or another pear crumble again it will remind me of my holiday! thomson have rated this as a 4 star hotel but it is not. it might have been a long, long time ago but isnt now. it was nice to see a fridge in the room and not one that you have to pay for separately.
entertainment - the reps were friendly and very enthusiastic and were fantastic with our two children. the only thing that i could fault was the timing of some of the activities - there was a kids club which started at 7pm which meant that because tea doesnt start till 6.30pm it was a bit of a rush. meal times and entertainment could do with being much earlier. a lot of crying children at tea time probably due to being over tired and having to wait till 6.30pm to eat.
on the whole the holiday was good but i wouldnt return to mallorca.

On arrival hotel looked nice a few things let it down the rooms were tired and are getting need of refurbishment, The food we thought was just ok Breakfast you couldn't fault there was a very good variety. However dinner in the evening was we thought quite poor quality. The Portland Brochure gave this hotel a 4 * but we would say its only 2* plus. We travelled as a family of 4 (2 adults 2 Chidren) . The position of the hotel was fine. Sun loungers theres plenty but people was queueing early in the morning to reseve their beds. I can say i wouldnt go back to this hotel.

This hotel is great for kids, with a great kids club and lots of things for them to do. the childrens reps and the entertainers were brilliant.
but there are a few things that really let down this hotel and i will not be returning because of them.
firstly the hotel reception area etc were very clean, but the rooms were terrinble. i don't think my sheets were changed the whole 2 weeks i was there and a few times when i left my towels in the bath to be changed, i came back to find the same ones had just been folded up agian for me to use.
the bathroom was disgusting!!! the floor was disgusting in the room and bathroom, it got to the satge we were all keeping our shoes on at all times in the room as none of us wanted to stand on sand, fluff etc!! the balcony was disgusting too!! i could really go on and on about the cleanliness but i'm sure you get the picture!!!
The walls were paper thin, you could hear every word people were saying next door, above and below you - it was awfull!!
The restaurant was clean enough apart from the highchairs which were absolutly disgusting!!!
the food was ok but not brilliant, i've had much better at other thomson hotels. we were really fed up of it after 2 weeks, in the last week we went out for dinner every 2nd night to get a decent meal.
The kids stuff was fine though and the breakfast.
The price of drinks in hotel was beyond a joke!!
i'm not going back unless someone tells me the rooms have been upgraded and being much better cleaned and that the food has improved!!!!

Jun 2008, Mr M Jennings

We (My Sister, my Brother-in-law and my Nephew) just arrived back from Mallorca yesterday and we loved it but our only problem was the food.
We didn't like the food's taste but there was a wide variety for Vegetarians and kids aswell.
There is a wide amount of entertainment for Kids especially with a dance called"Big Fish, Little Fish" that is performed WITH the kids that just never gets boring by a great man called "Monkey Boy". He would do all of the Childrens activities and is loved and respected by the children for his cheerfulness.
There is different entertainment on every night of the week from snake shows to dances to Rep shows (Very Funny) to Tribute Acts.
This is a perfect resort apart from its food therefore it deserves a 9 out of 10.

Jun 2008, Mr D Matthews

We came back last Thursday, we are a couple of 40somethings with our youngest child who is 10. We have been fortunate to holiday with Thomsons at this kind of hotel (superfamily or now family holiday club) for many years and based on that experience would say that this was one of the less spectacular ones.
Overall I think it's public areas are too small and it is poorly managed.
Having read the reviews before going and now reading them again I can see certain things in them that we noticed when we were there. Yes the reception is excellent, they will give you all the info about bus times and places that the reps either don't want to or don't know. They do speak great english and are very friendly.
The communal/public areas are very clean but I would not agree that the rooms were well cleaned. The chap who says the bedroom furniture was tired is being very polite. We had a small room with pool view on the 4th of 7 floors and our bedside cabinets and chests all had countless white rings on them where drinks had been left. The bathroom was in need of refurbishment (had a weird layout with the loo behind the door... no lock on the door = lots of banged knees). Several of the towels we had were holed or frayed, on one occasion despite following the instructions to put them in the bath when we wanted them to be changed, they were refolded and placed on the rack. If you walked barefoot in the room you picked up lots of dust and fluff on your feet.
The quality of restaurant food was good but it is true that you had to queue to get in and it was the first place I had ever been to where you had to goto the restaurant bar to get drinks to have with your meal. Unlike other hotels there was no obvious sign of anyone being in control, no managers seemed to be showing their presence.
The hotel is badly located in two ways. First it is 5 mins to either Palma Nova or Magaluf on either side, with all the hotels in both these places it is hard to see why you would come to Torrenova to this hotel. Secondly the physical building of the hotel is in the wrong orientation to the sun. It may be better in high summer when the sun is higher but when we were there at Spring bank holiday the main sunlounging area on the hotel side of the pool did not get in the sun till 12.30 as the hotel shadow blocked it. There were only 20 or so beds on the other side of the pool but by 1pm these were in the shadow of some larges trees bounding the hotel, so there was no solution to this problem. Yes the 8.30am march of the towels was amusing, in high summer I should imagine it will be a nightmare. During our week there were beds leftover stacked up but no where to put them.
The restaurant is on the lower ground floor along with the kids club rooms. On the ground floor is the lobby and reception along with the bar, this is all in one space so there is no quiet place to go to be away from the entertainment. Again it is probably better in high summer when the entertainment goes outside but I was amazed that there were 2 pool tables blocking the only walkway to the bar. That along with all the kids running and tumbling along the pathway made getting a beer like taking an obstacle course. The bar service was quick and efficient but what was going on with those huge mugs of tasteless coffee. The entertainment was provided by Thomson rather than the hotel itself but apart from the couple of pro acts each week it was all fairly childish and boring.

We have just returned from a week at...
9 / 10
Jun 2008, Mr M Carter

We have just returned from a week at Torrenova , with 11 year old son and 6 year old daughter and feel pleased with our holiday and well able to recommend the hotel. It is a modern concrete building set at the top of a reasonably steep hill (1:8) about 300m walk from either Palma Nova ( a nice family resort with a lovely promenade, sandy beach, and wide selection of shops ) or Magaluf ( a party resort packed with bars , nightclubs and takeaways). The hotel is well run with a super efficient reception to whom nothing was too much trouble and ultra clean with 254 rooms, 3 lifts served 7 floors. Approx 60% of rooms face the 2 pools. The rooms sleep 4 and are a touch on the small size as there is nowhere to sit bar on the balcony. The furniture in our room was a bit tired but was adequate. the room was cleaned daily to a high standard. Air con and a fridge were standard but you were charged extra for a safe deposit box, kettle and even a remote control for the TV( which showed english channels)
Meals were served in the downstairs buffet style restaurant. Breakfast was the same each day with a wide range of hot and cold items, fruit juices and hot drinks as much as you could eat and reasonably good quality.
Evening meal was varied in content each night but again offered a wide variety on dishes to suit all tastes and of a fairly good standard. There were 2 roast meats , 1 grilled 1 fish 1 casserole 1 vegetarian and 1 fast food each night plus 2 soups, a wide range of vegetables, pastas, salads followed by 2 english hot puddings and up to a dozen choices of cold sweets or even cheese and biscuits and fruit. There were some oddball items for an English occupied hotel such as Grilled Dogfish and Poached eggs in Chilli. The only downpoints were they needed more staff to clear the tables as they concentrated on feeding you rather than clearing up and the drinks prices were steep especially for kids.
As the weather was not at its best there was no problem to get sunbeds on any day even when it was nice but I am told it is manic in the summer holidays. Pools were cleaned daily and there was a football/ tennis court and nice kids park area, all safely fenced in.
Entertainment was hard to fault for families with Greg and Sam in charge . They worked so hard with never ending energy during the week and made a great impression on our kids who adored them. Thomson should be proud of them, they are genuinley nice people who look after you and peronally wished you goodbye at the end of the stay. There were also some class acts in the evenings, the best of who was a comedian/ opera singer George Pena who will take some beating.
When you are there Pirates and Western Water Park are well worth going to but compare prices before booking with Thomson, or even book online before you go out to the island, don't bother with the Thomson Mega day, go under your own steam
Overall good location, clean smart hotel with excellent staff and good food, drinks dear enough and be careful how you spend on the extras. On departure you will however be an expert at the actions to Big fish Little fish!
