The Palms Resort

Imagine the first time being in Negril, passing the beautiful scenery and stretch of premiere hotels (if your traveling the north coast route). Your filled with excitement to book into your hotel for some R&R and focused on each hotel that passes by so you wont miss the Palms. Then after a couple minutes or so you see a small board carving beside a white wall with grills and an old guard house. Disappointing. All, I would take livet0vacati0n's comments with a grain of salt. They seem factually suspicious with a hint of paranoia, but who knows. My girlfriend and I just got back from the Palms Resort and we had a great stay. The pool/deck gives a nice, elevated view of the beach. The staff was hospitable. The rooms are ok for the price and yes, they do have one of the only pools on 7 Mile Beach. However, the ever increasing criminal element of 7 Mile Beach seems to be running directly out of and immediately surrounding this hotel. There was a drug dealer in the room directly across from us and they wander all over the property like they own it. At most hotels, locals are not really allowed to roam the grounds freely. We have just returned from a week at The Palms Resort, located perfectly on the 7-Mile Beach! One-half of the resort has been remodeled and the other half should be completed by year-end. We actually moved to this resort after spending two miserable days at Whistling Bird - talk about dirty! Opal runs the front office. I went on vacation with a friend because I had not been on vacation in quite some time. My family is from Trinidad and I wanted to go some place in the caribbean and Jamaica seemed like a good place to me. I thought the rates were good so I booked my stay at the Palms. Generally, a basic, clean accommodation. Through the hotel's website, my BF and I booked a rate of $135/night. Another review tipped us off that there are no beach front rooms, so we just booked the cheapest room (they're all the same, I think). Since it was New Year's weekend, we thought this was a fair rate. To pay that much over a non-holiday weekend would probably be paying too much for what you get. Let me start by saying that if I was an 18 year old backpacker or on spring break paying $50 a night I would not have an issue with The Palms. But unfortunately I’m paying decent money - $200 a night – to stay in a place where everything seems to be a problem or causes agro. The brochure and web advertising is deceiving. The property is not finished - half of the rooms haven't even been started and the ones that have been renovated aren't finished. The bathroom and shower have a hard coat finish waiting for something to be done to it - either paint or tile. Just going to make this quick... booked it becuase of all the good reviews from trip advisor & it was nothing like what people said it was. First night no hot water. No cushions on chairs on deck near pool. No one was staying at the hotel...we were alone...scary. Restuarant was ok but it didn't look like a restuarant at all...very small portions & expensive...not worth it. We had a wonderfull time at the Palms!!! It's a nice place, we felt really comfortable. The crew was friendly, when we had questions they helped us very well. Next time when we go back to Negril, we defenitely book again at the Palms!!!
