Sugar Palm Karon

We stayed for three nights before going to Patong. The location is good, easy walk to the beach, bars and restaurants. We had a Pool access room which was a little bit bizarre as you are sat overlooking the pool and all of the people lined up on the other side with their feet and other bits on show. Also for older guests there are no steps back on to the balcony so if you can't heave yourself out you would have to walk around. We did not have breakfast included. We stayed at the SP early february - and were initally a little dissapointed as we had high hopes. We stay in a lot of hotels - around 100 nights per year and the main concern with the SP was the poor cleaning and very poor finish on the painting/decoration. For a new hotel it was shocking - I challenge anybody to except that standard of it was applied to their own house. Amazing hotel with all you need for a pleasant stay and relaxating, nice people working for you allways offering help with smile in their face I hope sometime return to spend some more days there!!!

We booked Sugar Palm Karon at the last minute due to a delayed flight. The price was negotiated with a travel agent at the airport and it was decent. It came with breakfast and that was okay-- limited variety and there were flies flying around. Sugar Palm is a decent hotel located on a not-so-nosy (yet) Karon beach of Phuket. It's location on one hand cannot compete with a few expensive hotels situated on the beach road with a magnificent see view. However it is still close to the beach and situation in a way that street noise will not bother you. We had stayed in their sister property at Kata which is great. What we failed to realise (or be told) was that the hotel isn't even finished yet. The website says it has a spa, restaurant etc etc but none of this is working. Reception was a building site, breakfast was very basic and right next to the builders so very noisy. We had to move rooms as for 5 days in a row the lift broke down. They were nice and did upgrade us to a pool access room but we checked out after 2 nights as this room wasn't great either. Stayed in the pool access room which for value for money was excellent. Due to protest season there were only a handful of guests soit was very quiet. Rooms are clean and more modern rather than you average traditional thai rooms. Not many facilites and breakfast was not anything special but clean and filling. Right at karon circle you are on front of shops, restaurants, bars, 7/11...etc. Beach is only minutes walk but you cannot swim in karon beach, or at least that part of the beach. Sugar Palm Karon was recommended by our travel agent for a change. My family stayed at Phuket 21 days so we did tried hotels in different area to explore the island. Prior to moving to Sugar Palm Karon, we were at sister hotel : Sugar Palm Kata. Karon is the newly opened hotel so it was really quite and relaxing. Even the hotel staff and management were relaxed. In a way we had a good start. we arrived at 11am when checkin is meant to be 2pm. They checked us in with no problems. Then there was: The fact the room looked a little different to the one we booked on Wotif, it was missing a sofa. The air-con was useless, after 12 hours it was still on 29 degrees. The free in-room wireless internet didn't work The shower drain blocked.
