Silver Seas Resort Hotel

I have been to Jamaica on several trips but this was the worst place I have ever been. I just spent the worst visit to Jamaica in th Silver Seas Hotel in Ochos Rios, Jamaica. I love Jamaica not even the hotel would change my mind on that but this place was crazy. I arrived at the hotel at approximately 2:30 and my room was not ready until almost six o'clock. I just got back from Jamaica. I'll give you some unemotional facts on this hotel. We came in at night. The entrance to the hotel is off the main road, and we had to go down a long dark driveway that seemed more like an alleyway. The hotel was dimly lit, and the lobby, restraunt, and bar areas were dingy and dark, and not air-conditioned. It was very hot and humid. It did not seem that there were many other guests. I had no problems at Silver Seas. After walking down James Ave checking out the other hotels, I decided to ask the front desk for a tour. I was shown a few different rooms and the next day switched my hotel reservation. Check in was easy, my room was spacious and the view was awesome. No problems with the staff, they were very pleasant and helpful. This place is a piece of hell in paradise! I went to the Silver Seas in late June 04 and came home on July 1st. I have never stayed at a more hell hole in my life. First of all, the rooms and the service suck. They air your blankets on the bushes while they "clean your room" The maids wake you up with loud banging and will enter your room even if you don't want them too. I have traveled all over the planet. I have stayed in "Guess Houses", Huts when in the bush. I've also had a chance to stay at 5 star accomadations to boot. Using Expedia's rating at the time of three stars (ie, Holiday Inn, Best Western) on a last minute booking, I went ahead and chose the Silver Seas Resort (?!) Believe every poor review you have read in these archives. The Silver Seas is all that and more. I had to be there for 4 nights on a business trip. The staff are either crooked or incompetent, and there is no service whatsoever. The hotel claims to have 76 rooms, but from my inspection it seemed like only about 20 or so were being rented - the rest were too run-down to rent. The Silver Seas Hotel is not in comparison to the "Grand" down the block, but if you are looking for a spectacular view of the sunrise and fall across the turquise Carribean Sea, being awaken every morning not by the concerige, but by the harminous hymes of birds in the trees above your room and the feeling that tranquility is at your door step than this is the place for you. If you stay at this hotel you must be a person who understands what 'going native' means. It is not in the tourist district. But you will be richly rewarded if you connect with locals. Cecil is a brilliant man (highly educated). As usual, always tip the housekeeping staff. Do be ware - they are not always so great at wake up calls and if you have a friend who is Jamaican - they may not be friendly to him/her (racism persists) I had some serious problems with this.

i belive you get what you paid for. and when your paying 57 dollars per night you are gonna have some problems but its not the worst place i ever stayed don't let these people with high standerds ruin your future vacation. you go to jamica to vistit jamica not the hotel room you stay in.

I loved the Silver Seas Hotel! After reading some of the other reviews, I was a bit skeptical, but this hotel is great. The rooms are spacious and clean with all the basic amenities - TV, air conditioning, closet space, a sitting area, etc. The best part of the room was the fantastic view of the ocean. Each room has it's own private balcony with a wonderful view. I did not eat at the restaurant so I can not speak for that, but the pool and beach facilities were nice.
