Typical, Charming, Quiet & Clean
from Karla_Porter
Posada Mariposa is just what my title says, typical (not luxury), charming with lots of unique character (the interior gardens and walkways are beautful), quiet & clean. The location is superb, right on 5th Av. and 1 block from the beach. After 10:00pm there is a security guard at the front desk. Not that he is needed, but it is nice touch for a female traveling alone. Upon my check-out I was provided a feedback form to fill out and the next day I received a thank-you email from management. There are different types of travel and...

Don't go there!
from cecyvillanueva
I went there with 2 more friends on April 2007, they charged us 70 usd for a supposed stain of mascara on the blanket, after arguing with 3 different people, we paid and took the blanket with us, and it got off real easily!! it was a robbery, no low quality blanket costs 70 usd! and it wasn't a stain that wouldnt go away. be careful if you go there, besides there are small bugs/spiders on the bed.

Dear Trip Advisor thanks for the possibility to reply.
This is a serious accusation being made to the hotel. I realize it is much easier to accuse someone else instead of take your own responsibilities.
The only comment that I can say is that Posada Mariposa is at the moment in new reshape. Putting in all our rooms new matrix, lighting, funs, beds spread, curtains, closets, etc
This kind a job is a huge change for us and makes me proud to be evolved. Always for improve our service.
For that is our duty to care about all the damage that some guest produce in the rooms
My regards

Great Quiet Location Very Close Beautiful Beach
from voodoobebe
If you're looking for the Ritz-Carlton, stay at one of the many all-inclusive resorts! The Mariposa is a great no frills hotel in the northern area of Playa del Carmen. Located on the famous Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue) this small quaint hotel has true Mexican hospitality! Offering a great place to lay your head, with hot water and very clean rooms in a safe quiet area, not far from al the action.Down the road about 10 blocks south is the Fiesta Hotel, stop by and say "hi to bartender Evonne from Vera Cruz, have him mix you a secret...

Quite good for a cheap hotel
from Elito
I was only looking for a cheap Hotel, safe, with hot water and cold A/C. That's exactly what I found here and (given the reviews I read for dearer places), I thought this was rather good. The room was a bit dark (looking out on the stairs you tend to keep the curtains shut), but it was cleaned everyday, towels and linen changed daily. Saw no bugsand the staff were ok/nice. I'd go back!
Terrible Hotel!
from Malagueñasalerosa
I was from December 29, 2006 until January 4, 2007 and It´s the worst hotel of Playa del Carmen. The service is terrible and there are cockroaches in the rooms!!! In Playa del Carmen there are cheap and comfortable hotels but this one is a theft!
Great, cheap hotel

My husband and I stayed for a week here and really enjoyed it. We're from NYC - he's into upscale pricey places, and I'm more laid-back and adventurous; the place pleased us both. You won't confuse it with one of those enormous hotels by the beach where you get lost inside, but it's not a hostel either. We pretty much only slept in the room - we wanted to experience the city, go on trips, and go to the beach - and it was great for that. Yes, it wasn't pretty, but very clean. Very firm mattresses (no bed bugs - there's an epidemic in NYC...

Don't let the bed bugs bite
from dyniseb
We knew that Posada Mariposa would be a no frills place. We booked an apartment--which was called Casa Nopal. It was nothing special, but we were fine with it. It was roomy and had a little kitchen. The first morning, my husband woke up with the telltale row of itchy bites around his ankles. We didn't want to jump to conclusions, but we had suspected they were bed bugs. The next morning, he woke up with more telltale, itchy rows of bites and we *knew* they were bed bugs. So for the remainder of the vacation, the two of us slept on the...

Great one!!!
from janmaiw
Stayed there twice this year and both times it was great! The location is perfect (10 - 15 minutes walking to the busstation and 3 minutes to the beach), at the end of the main avenue in Playa del Carmen but you don't have the noise of the nightlife coz it's almost at the end. The staff is very nice and the rooms are clean and the aircondition makes you even freeze when outside everything is melting. The whole architecture of the place is nice and it's really a small but vey nice hotel. Righ infront you have nice place to for...

Great value hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a lovely little hotel just out of the hustle and bustle of Playa del Carmen. To walk from the bus station to the hotel is about 10mins. It is just a block back from the beach, and in my opinion - the better, slightly quieter beach than the main beach. No restaurant at the hotel, but many great restaurants surround it. A great place for breakfast with fantastic fresh juices just across the road from the hotel - La Vagabonda. Hotel rooms have cable tv, fridge, private bathroom, security safe and little balcony...

Stayed twice at Mariposa and would stay again
from 2inthesun
We have stayed twice at the Posada Mariposa over the years of coming to Playa and would certainly stay there again. This year we stayed there for a month and set up our reservation on phone and e-mail with no problems. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The beds are your typical hard type but no different then other hotels we've experienced in the area. Cleaning staff were good and we had no problems leaving out any possessions, although we always rent a safe no matter where we go (for our passports, cash etc.) We did find that...
