Great Hotel, Great Snorkeling
Just returned from 5 days at Park Royal Cozumel from Aug 18-23, 2003. Loved the staff and the lovely tropical jungle surrounding the pool. The indoor restaurant (reservations, shoes, slacks, real shirts, etc required) is excellent with great service, great food, and beautiful presentation. The outdoor buffet is also quite good with plenty of choices. I never had anything I didn't like all week. The meals are served at set times (7-10:30 am, noon-3:30 pm, 6-10:30 pm) but even when the main restaurants are closed, chances are food... more
Park Royal Cozumel - could try a little harder
Just returned from a 7 day stay at the Park Royal Cozumel. Accomodations were ok. Beds were hard (not firm - hard) and somewhat lumpy. However, for some strange reason I was able to sleep well without a backache so they couldn't be all that bad. As this is an all inclusive resort, you want to eat there as much as you can. I can't say that the food was all that good. The restaurant is open air as are many of the public areas in this resort. With the temperature being around 85 - 90 degrees every day with high humidity, this did not make... more
Left Park hotels mid-trip (2001)
WARNING: DATED REVIEW. This information comes from my trip to Park Royal Cozumel during New Year's Day weekend 2000-2001. But I felt I should reiterate what others have already said because it looks like nothing has changed. On the positive side, there was a lot of beautiful landscaping, an excellent view, a VERY amusing New Year's Day party, the staff was generally helpful, and the staff didn't hold it against us when we checked out early. On the negative side, there was only sub-par food (check the other reviews), no ocean beach (lagoon... more
Not what we were expecting at all
First of all, DO NOT talk to anyone at the airport here. They are all time-share people and they suck. After we got to the motel we had to wait 2 hours for our room. Then after we got our room we went up and changed, we went to the beach to do some snorkling. Excellent Snorkling!!!! The food was bad at the buffet, I could not even eat, then that night I tried to get pizza deliverd and I called and ordered it and it never came, I called back and never could get anyone to understand me. The whole time we were there the buffet sucked, It made... more
Great snorkeling
Just returned from an enjoyable trip to Cozumel. The hotel personnel were friendly and accomodating. Food and beverage service great. Make sure to get reservations for the restaurant at the resort as the 5 course dinners were superb. The beach access was indeed under the street and across from the hotel, about 50 feet. On this beach they did have food and beverage service. The lagoon was created with sand to make an easy access to the reef just beyond the rocks. Immediate exit from the lagoon, you encounter schools of friendly fish. They... more
Park Royal is a total gem!!
We found a package for $275/pp for 3 nights all inclusive so we weren't expecting very much. We were amazed at we saw when we arrived - private driveway with guard station, more than friendly staff at check in and then down some stairs to an oasis! It was like walking into a mini jungle with lots of trees and shrubs and a huge pool that wraps around a large straw-roofed building with a swim-up bar and seating area inside. The room was large and even had a king bed! It could do with a little updating but was very comfortable and clean. There... more
Take your mosquito repellant!!!
Okay, so after reading all of the previous reviews prior to going, I decided that I just HAD to submit one of my own upon returning. Yes, the beds were wicked hard. Yes, most of the buffet food was mediocre. And yes, the constant barrage of people trying to get you to do the time share thing sucked (we had more hassles at the airport than at the hotel). BUT...my family (my husband, my 17-month old, and myself) and I had a GREAT time. The room overall FAR surpassed expectation, it was huge with a great view. The service was great... more
Needs Improvement
On the positive side: The hotel is an all-inclusive package: food and beverages and use of any area on the property. Most of the areas are beautiful.Upon arriving at the Park Royal Hotel in Cozumel, MX, I was very impressed with the large open-air hut-type structure of the Front Desk and most of the public areas. This hotel has absolutely luscious rainforest type landscaping and beautiful jungle inspired building structures. The hotel has a vacation resort atmosphere. The bar and restaurant service was excellent. All public areas were kept... more
The good, the bad, and the terrible!!
The good: The hotel was decent - needed some work, but for the most part, was fine. The beds are rock hard, but most hotels are. We ended up changing rooms for an oceanview and the 2nd room was better than the first. We got a corner room on the 4th floor, windows on both sides of the room. The bathroom was clean, but the tub seems to fill up with water - probably all the sand that gets washed down the drain. There is no beach (but if you do your "homework" you'll know this before you go. There is a lagoon, which I did not go in - too... more
Park Royal First Timer
Swore I would post a trip report becuase reliable information is hard to come by.This was my first trip to Mexico.I am a rank novice snorkeler, family had been last year. This place is operating in one of the two buidings, the other one is defunct time-share. I think this place is the best bang for the dollars in Cozumel. there are other, newer, bigger ones, but this one is really underoccupied, about 100 rooms, the pool and the beach, etc was really built for more people so never crowded. The food is so-so, but all all inclusives are, the... more
