Neelams The Grand

Having been to Calangute twice before we thought we would book a better standard hotel this year as a delayed honeymoon. We booked the Neelam the Grand through Thomas Cook, it advertises it as a 3/4star fully renovated hotel, what a nightmare - picture's attached!! When complaining to the management all we got was fobbed off with them saying this is the Thomas Cook allocated rooms, & The Thomas Cook rep was as much good as a chocolate fireguard. It took 4 days of complaint’s to get us moved to another block which was at least clean. Never... more

We spent an awful 5 nights here. The hotel is noisy, some of the staff are unhelpful, and the standard rooms are grubby. To top it off, a member of the bar staff stole from us, and when we confronted the bar manager, the security manager, and the hotel manager, they did nothing, and lied to us about what had been going on. We were disgusted with the service.

The definite selling point of this place was the pool which was great to lie by, kept really clean and looked great at night. The rooms were nothing to shout about really and the service teetered on the bad - we didn't get new towels for 3 days despite continuously asking. Calangute a bit of a dump really - not sure about the gob smacking poverty in Goa?? Try some of the rest of India... Had an amazing time, in Goa. Highly recomend Goa to anyone. The people are so nice and kind. You ll be shocked on how far your money goes aswell. We were spending £50.00 a day for luxury lifestyle. Including personal taxi for day, beach, sunbeads, lobster (£8.00!) and two course meal for two at night and we would still have change. Well i just got back from goa and i really enjoyed every bit of my trip. We stayed in this hotel "Neelam's - The Grand". Well its really a good hotel with good rooms. (we had taken Superior Poolside Facing Room). The hotel is ideally located and beaches like Baga, Calangute and Condolin were close by. The hotel was over booked and few of my friends were upgraded to suite with no extra cost. It looked like the staff could not handle this sudden rush of guests and thus they were slow in the service. Stayed there for 3 days in October 2006. All I can say is that it was loud and very noisy. Thank God that I did not take up the room just next to the pool... the noise levels can be terrible. Staff was not that helpful so you need to 'ask' for help. The location is quite good as the beach is not that far off and is ideal if you hire a bike to move around. The rooms are decent in size and comfort. Had a problem with the flush in the bathroom. Overall, a place which you can do well to avoid!

Wow, what can i say. This hotel was stunning, the rooms where beautiful, the veiw of the pool was great, especially at night when it was all lit up. the staff are extremely friendly and wouldnt give a second thought to helping you where needed. Free taxi from hotel to calangute beach but only cost £1ish to the nicer beach of candolim. GO to Ginos Shack on candolim beach we spent most of our days there. The guys are fantastic. Returning to Goa next year and will most likely stay in the same hotel. 10 out of 10

Just home from goa, this was a great hotel compared to the first hotel we were placed in. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Hotel was very clean and although the pool was shut for 3 days we were transported to a nearby hotel to use their pool which was of a similar standard. Would recommed a visit to this hotel.

Great hotel, lovely rooms/ position, but, busy with conference delegates. Conferences seemed to run back to back which made hotel very busy, Special dinners / lunches restricted other guests use of patio facilities & entertainment.

I have just come back from a weeks holiday at Neelams the Grand hotel in Goa and just wanted to write a review as there were none for the the hotel when I was looking previously. This is a really great hotel and the best thing about it is probably the friendliness of the staff. Also worth noting that the air conditioning was particulally good in the room (tempreture controlled) and there was a ceiling fan as well - keeping cool is a big concern in Goa!
