getting better. I loved it!
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just got back from the Riviera we were there 5/30/03-6/4-03. The Mayan Palace is still under construction but I can imagine how beautiful it is going to be. They have the best and largest swimming pool around. I had a blast and I don't understand the other reviews, maybe with time it keeps getting better. You can't get in the beach yet but I bet you soon everything will look very beautiful. The best place to go relax in are those beds along the swimming pool and beach! I thought that was an excellent idea. I had an awesome time and will...

Timeshare presentation Hell

6/1/03 I didn't stay at this Hotel; I was staying in Cozumel but took the ferry over to Playa del Carmen. At the ferry I got steered into the Mayan Palace sales presentation by a friendly, quick-talking young woman who promised just a 90 minute "presentation". I was curious and went along on the 15 minute cab ride. I was met at the Hotel by the Swedish saleswoman, Helena who I'm now convinced is into S&M. As a New Yorker, I'm used to aggressive, no-nonsense sales people but she puts them all to shame. She is like a dog with a bone and would...

Had a great time
from Bwalker648
My wife and I just returned from a week at the Mayan palace and we had a great time. The beach is not great but I spent 2 hours snorkeling off the beach and saw many fish. Look close to the rock jetty, bigger fish hang out by the artificial reef they are installing. Use the beach on the weekends as they seem to be working on the reef during the week and there is machinery on the beach. We ate many meals at the restaurant near the beach at the Mayan palace. The food, the staff, and the beer were great. I defiantly recommend the mussel soup,...

Out of the Way

My husband and I stayed at the Mayan June 2002. The resort was still under construction, the parts that we done were very nice. However, it rained while we were there and they had leaks in the restraunts and floods in the lower rooms and walk ways. They had not completed all the restraunts, there was only one restraunt plus the buffett. The food was very good, but I would have to agree with the others who said it was very far away from the rooms (the only good thing was you had to walk so far you worked off all the food you ate). Prices...

We just got back(4/11-18/03) from the the Mayan Palace Cancun. We rented it through a RCI off the internet. I read the reviews and would have cancelled but we could not get a refund unless they could rent it out again. Everything other reviews said is true. There are NO beach or ocean view rooms. They said it was because you can't have sleeping rooms by the water if you are in a hurricane zone. Our room had a beautiful view of the tennis courts which are housed in a big white building. The walk to the beach and pool is long. That is...

Don't listen to others-its on its way to perfect

I went to Mayan Palace, Cancun from 3/17 to 3/23 with my family. I will admit that the place could use some changes however they are a new resort for the most part and are stillworking to finish everything up. They are also working well with people to make changes that are needed. The beach with beautiful and from the people told me there they are going to make it a nice sandy beach in the next year because it is rocky a bit. The pool is fabulous, nice and big with two bars to swim up to. There are activities you can do through out the...

room for improvement

my wife and i have traveled in the yucatan for about the past ten years. we decided to purchase a timeshare about a year ago. well that was o.k. until we decided to stay there. we called and tried to make reservations and learned we would first have to pay our maintenance fee which wasn't due for three months. then there was the problem with room capacity. we normally travel with some very close friends and use the room to sleep only. to save money we were sharing our room. we were told that wouldn't happen although the sales person...

we were at Mayan Palace 3/23-3/30/03...traveled with my wife and 3 kids under the age of 7, a few observations: Bad:--whatever you do, DO NOT give the timeshare schlepers the time of day. they promise you 90 minutes, but in reality it is an all day gut wrenching hard sell. we did not get sucked in thank God, but I heard and saw alot of horror stories.--Beach is not ready, they are working on it, but it will not be ready to swim for 1 year--despite their claim, there is no kids club. there are various activities for older kids (10 yrs +)...

If they ever get the beach done so you can swim will be a lovely place. Until then - felt trapped! Not into pool swimming and you had to walk on steep beach for 20 - 30 min to get to swimming!
