My partner and I have just returned from spending a week at this hotel. The apartment was clean and spacious but had little natural light and was also damp. The smell hit us each time we returned to the room - we assume this is why the portable dehumidifier was left running... more

The hotel is clean relaxing and friendly. We loved the size of the room an being a family of 4 found space no problem, although our children are young. Everything was clean and well maintained. The food was good with a wide variety, which was replaced frequently. Well... more

Loved the place!
We read most of the reviews on the internet and seen this place. We arrived and was greeted by a gorgeous marbled floor area, spacous and clean. Recpetion staff where quick and helpful, we exited reception into the pool area and what a wonderful site, clean, washed down with hoses, lush green grass, clean pathways, gorgeous trees, and not a sole in sight! The apartments was fantastic, huge, light, clean and everything you needed. Bathroom had no window in so was a little dark when having a shower but HUGE mirrors and very tidy. Balcony overlooked pools which where cleaned every morning by the life guard. Place was very quiet when we arrive , (we where only people staying i think!!!) then i got busy during week. Breakfast was excellent, huge choice of food, from english to spanish. We only stayed B&B so can comment on evening meals. Only thing that got on our nevous a bit was the walk to son bou, took about 30 mins, but the scenery was fantastic , villas to look at, streets to explore and the seaside to walk down. the indoor pool was not heated (supposed to be!) and the jazzuci was broken! :-( Beach is THE BEST!!! bit of a walk, we only discovered the free bus after our 4th day but enjoyed the walks in the sun! Local food was fantastic. Hire a car from the place in town called "rent a car" dirt cheap no frills and no deposit!!!!!!! the one in the hotel was VERY expensive and not worth it! Overall a fantastic place, the on site supermarket was brilolaint and cheaper than the town one!..... We will defo go again!
Great family choice
We read review after review before booking this hotel, having had a disasterous holiday last year. I am therefore writing my own review now to help others the same as us. We holidayed at the apartments with our two girls age 4 and 6 and I cannot recommend it enough. The pool areas are lovely. Very clean and 2 of the 3 pools are perfect depth and very safe for children. Although it was August the areas around the pool were never too busy and there were always plenty of sunbeds and loungers. All the children mixed in together and had a great time. The apartments are great. Ours had windows all round and excellent views of the surrounding hills and sea in the distance. The apartment was cleaned every day and the beds made. We slept in a double sofa bed in the longe area which was a bit hard! Our block was only 2 stories high, some were 5. I would recommend ours, block B. The only advice I would give with rooms is that some have patio doors to the balcony off the bedroom and some off the living area, so decide which is best for you and request. Also, many of the bedrooms have double beds so you need to request one with twins if you want that, as we did for the children. The hotel itself is very clean and well presented. It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and was never busy even though the hotel was fully booked. The dining room offered great food and choice. My only criticism would be that the hot food was always cold! even when first brought out. My only other criticism would be the interaction of the kids club staff with the children, which was non-existent. They have great facilities for children, inlcuding a soft play area, but the staff never really talked to our children when we went in, we were left to ourselves. Having said that there was a nightly kids disco which ours enjoyed. Evening entertainment was adequate and finished about 10.30 each night so there was never any noisy nights when you couldn't sleep. The hotel courtesy bus runs regularly and they will come back and get you if full. We usually walked into town, all downhill and about 20 mins, then got the bus or town train back. The train was 2 euros each and stopped by the hotel. Son Bou is great. Not too big. Nice restaurants and a beautiful beach although there were jelly fish in the sea! Nice shops and a small kids fair by the Milanos Pinguinos Hotel with bouncy castle, bumper boats, trampolines. There is also 2 water slides and a maze in the San Jaime Apts. Mahon can be easily reached by local bus in about 20 mins and is worth a visit, remembering when shops shut for siesta. There are various boat trips there and a great harbour. For us this hotel was perfect. We would definitely go back again and recommend it.
Perfect!!!!!
We arrived on Friday 29th June at about 10.00am, we had a free drink and a walk round the hotel while they finished our room (about 20 minutes), the hotel was a little quiet, but as we went for peace and quiet it was perfect. Once we got our keys and safe deposit key (15 Euros + 6 Euros deposit), we went up to our room and was very impressed with the size and how lovely and clean it all was. We had a walk into Son Bou which took about 20 minutes. The shops are brilliant, Timberland, Lacoste and some really good bars and restaurants. We ate out a couple of times in a place called Las Dunas, the staff and food were first class. The beach is amazing spotless white sand and aquamarine waters, although we did discover the nudist beach, not a pretty site!!! The Menorcans are very proud of their island and is does show, there is a lot of conservation, and there are some stunning wetlands with all sorts of wildlife that live there. They look after there country and are very envronmentally friendly. The Menorcans produce the tastiest cheese and are very proud of all their dairy products. They also produce the best leather and the leather factory is worth a visit. Gorgeous shoes!!!! If you go with a travel agent I wouldn't bother with their excursions, they are very expensive, we met a man in Son Bou called Raphael and does all the trips at almost half price. He is in a tour operators near Mai Thai Bar. You can find him usually in the Lacoste shop, I think his girlfriend works there. I think the Jardin De Menorca was the best hotel and I think that the people who visited before us had caught the tail end of any repairs. The hotel is beautiful, staff are exceptional and the evening entertainment was brilliant. We met some really lovely people there and a few had children and they loved it. Can't wait to go back next year.
Very disappointed
This hotel is certainly not worthy of four stars. We returned yesterday (25/6/07) and have to say this hotel was like a ghost town and barely ready to open for the season. They were still grouting the patio tiles, the poolside snack bar was not open til the Friday before we were due to leave. There is no ambience in this hotel and to be worthy of 4 stars it needs a really good overhaul with certain aspects improved considerably. The pool was often filled with dead bugs and sections of grass cordoned off and only just planted. The hotel free bus stops running at 7pm and pushing a toddler back up that hill from the town in a buggy is no mean feat!!! The mini golf is laughable being two holes stuck behind one of the rooms. The indoor pool shabby and 7 euros to use. Food - nothing to write home about and cold. The orange machine and coffee machine took it in turns to break down. If you are thinking of going to a family friendly hotel - this is not the one for you. The kiddies play area is two old swings and a rickety wooden slide placed very close to a sheer drop!! The evening activities didn't appear and to be honest the bar was empty every night. I think the lack of atmosphere made everyone go elsewhere of an evening - so it was a vicious circle really.
Resturaunt not 4 star
Just back from one weeks stay at the Jardin De Menorca. Very dissappointing. The hotel rooms were nice but had a musty smell. The staff were all friendly and tried to please. Lack of atmosphere, very poor entertainment. Food quality poor and little variety. we have stayed in many 4 star hotels in the past and this hotel would be scraping for a 3 star. I would not return or recommend.
Hotel not even ready! should not be open to the public!!
We arrived at the hotel, the hotel was dead, no one around to welcome you. The receptionist was friendly enough just ashame the hotel was not ready. It should not even take bookings the state it was in. We checked in and the rooms were ok, a bit dated and smelt a little musky. But when you look out of the window to see the grass was not even laid, pool half empty and building work going on. Not an ideal holiday at all. We decided to take a closer look around the hotel to find the indoor pool was empty and very dirty, some building work going on, looks like it will not be ready for a good couple of months! You could not walk bear footed around the complex as it was very dirty from dust/building etc. The gym looks like the equipment was from the 70's. No modern equipment and very rusty weights etc, Not safe to use. We checked out only one hour after arriving as it was so bad, we could only see around 10 other people on the complex, all complaining too. The hotel were nice enough to give us a refund and we checked into the Sol Menorca, which was a fantastic move! excellent place. But to be honest, this complex will take a couple of months to finish off all the work that was going on. I would not think about going back as I did not like the feel of the place. I would say its 2/3 star not 4 star. I feel sorry for any one who has booked to stay a this place and would see if you can get a refund. Very dissapointing and a let down.
lovely grounds
The gardens and pool area of the Jardin area are absolutely gorgeous with plenty of sun loungers well spaced out and something for everyone with 3 different pools. The apartments were spacious and all had a lovely blacony or terrace but the kittchen area was very disappointing with no kettle or tin opener even! We had booked an aparthotel with the intention of eating in occasionally but as there wasn't even an oven to heat a pizza in we ended up going out every night. Perhaps that is the intention. The breakfast was as you would expect, nothing more and dinner was buffet style with soup or salad to start and a choice of 3 or 4 fairly standard meat or fish dishes. Nothing special but perfectly OK. It was interesting to hear a couple of families who had been before say that the standard of the food had gone down. The Jardin is about a 20 min walk from son bou town which we didn't think would be a problem as the website says there is a bus which will take you in to town. However the 8 seater minibus only runs every hour and was often full. Also it stops at 7 pm so there is no way of getting back at night. There is a tourist train which stops right outside the hotel but there is no time table it just comes every 45 mins so you could be in for a long wait. There is entertainment at the hotel with a mini disco from 9- 10 pm every night and then a show or Quiz etc after that. This was Ok for us as the children were older but if I had gone with a baby or toddler the noise would have been quite disruptive. All in all a lovely hotel is quiet surroundings but food nothing special.
We Love The Jardin!
We've just returned from 2 weeks at the Jardin and had a wonderful time. This is our 6th visit and it really feels like home from home. It's ideal for couples or those with young children but don't go if you want lots of "buzz" - Blackpool it isn't! The staff are lovely - incredibly welcoming and hard working. It's spotless with fresh towels and maid service daily. There's a wide choice of food and flexible eating times. Above all it's amazingly peaceful and relaxing. We almost hesitate to let others know how good it is - we'd like to keep it to ourselves but that would be selfish.
Great breakfast, cats and hedgehog
Stayed here for 3 nights during our week long trip to Menorca. I found the hotel rather nice although located a short drive from the shops and restaurants. Personally we found Son Bou itself fairly disappointing as a beach after the other much nicer ones we'd been to during the rest of the week. The breakfast at this hotel was the best I have had in Europe for choice, variety and presentation ( a thousand times better than the usual stale bread roll and coffee) The apartment itself was quite large although the bedroom part is only separate by a thick drape/curtain from the lounge area. The balcony was also very large and had nice views over the gardens and pools. The pools were nice and there was also a play area for smaller children. I rather enjoyed the friendly and playful kittens in the gardens and one night was excited to spot a hedgehog. For me, this was a treat as we do not have hedgehogs in Australia. The gym was OK but we were disappointed that you had to pay extra to use the pool and spa/hot tub especially as no-one was using them during our stay. Also, the internet was broken during our stay which was a bit of a problem for us. However overall, I thought the hotel was very good value for money especially with the breakfast included. We only paid about AUD80 a night.
Not as Good as usual!
We have visited this hotel before and decided to go again as it was so good last time. Very disappointing this time around and more expensive. Misleading that you have to pay extra to use alot of the facilities, e.g. indoor pool, squash court etc. In need of some tender loving care as it is a lovely place. Pools needed cleaning. Animacion Team were lovely people but didn't really do much of the timed games and entertainment listed on the board - namely, water polo, volleyball, baminton etc. They only did the rifle shoot because we asked them. No aqua-robics this year either. The food was very good but overall a very expensive and disappointing Aparthotel. We will not be going to Jardin de Menorca again.
