credit card repeat charge...4 times!!
from Mark_&_Philippa
We stayed at the mago in March, ok stay apart from the same menu which is set weekly with limited choice. The greatest issue was on return when they charged my credit card four times for the one transaction and only refunded two of them. it took several calls to get the credit processed..AND then I had a further charge 3 months later for the same amount. Further calls made, and on each a bad attitude onthe other end of the phone and still no apology to this date for mistakes made at the hotel....(in spite of the above I have to say the Spa...

I wrote an earlier review titled "quirky at best". I want to update that by advising everyone that the Mago -- three months after I settled my bill (I did not demand a discount, but should have) -- charged an additional $1000+ to my credit card. When I asked for an explanation, they strung me along for a while, and then simply ignored my emails and calls. If it was a simple mistake, I think they would have been able to explain and apologize. However, to string me along and then ignore me suggests something dishonest. Fortunately, it is in...

Scared Sleepless
from A TripAdvisor Member
My family and I spend several months each year traveling the world. Upon checking into the Mago Resort a guest told us that he had spent the whole day in the US Embassy getting a new passport and travel documents. A robber had come into his hotel room while he was asleep and stole all his belongings, computer, clothes, camera, passport, wallet, etc. and woke up to an empty room. In addition, the hotels' dog had been poisoned days earlier. I had rented 2 suites for my family. STEPS...that's an understatement. I am very fit, an advanced...

Mixed feelings about the Mago
from Jorge_Almonzo
My wife and I stayed at the Mago Estate for two nights during March, 2006. We were looking for an upscale hotel in the Soufriere area, but couldn't afford some of the pricier options like Anse Chastanet or Ladera. Based on reviews elsewhere, we decided on the Mago Estate. All in all, our stay was pleasant and relaxing, although the hotel does not live up to the billing promoted on its website. Upon arrival at the Mago Estate we were met by their incredibly friendly front-desk staff. They truly did a wonderful job welcoming us...

Beatiful Views and Rustic Charm
from biskopen
Although it's not quite Ladera, the hotel is situated on a steep slope with a view of the Pitons and Soufriere. The rooms are clean and cozy, with a air of "luxury-treehouse". Our stay at the hotel met our expectations, with only two exceptions. 1) The food at the hotel was superb. 2) The roosters were louder than we anticipated.

Mago Estate Great place on the hillside with wonderful views, staff is extremely friendly. Very clean, nice open air massage room/spa, great ambience for those looking for a low key, secluded place. They do need to extend their menu but that seems to be in the process due to new management. We stayed in a comforatable Eden Suite which has a small TV and a/c. I definitely recommend it although one staff member was new and was not completely informed of the tours, do stick to touring directly from the hotel and " Beware of Simon Says, a local...

Loved The Mago!!!
from Martina12
This Hotel is quirky so only open minded quirky people need go there all others will find something to compalin about. I don't know what management is supposed to do about the walking distance into town, you can get a taxi and they will organise it for you ,why should they give you sympathy??? When we arrived at the Mago the welcome is unlike any I have ever had anywhere(warm and friendly), and believe you me I have stayed in everything from a one to a five star hotel and I have traveled all around the world. Don't forget that...

Customer care does not exist at this hotel
from beekeepers55
We stayed at the Mago for 2 weeks. We considered a move but had booked via the B.A website. The breakfast was as small as they could make it, cereal or cooked was 'extra'. Do they try to starve you into submission ? Bearing in mind we were the only ones there for a good deal of our stay, we waited anything up to 20 mins. for service at breakfast, they weren't really pushed were they. The owner who was there for most of our stay had a breakfast meeting with his manager, and they got served while we waited, waited and waited.<br...

Mago is terrible, dont give them any of your money!
from A TripAdvisor Member
It's difficult to know where to begin in explaining why you SHOULD NOT stay at the Mago. It is clear however, that all the problems that plague this hotel start with the management. In short DO NOT STAY HERE! The only thing I can think of in reading some of the positive reviews on this site is that they were written by a staffer of the hotel. When we arrived at the Mago we were immediately disappointed w/ our room. While we were given our room at a "discounted rate," $150 less than the asking price on the web….it was immediately...

Management response from tanit
This guest stayed at Mago Estate Hotel during April 2005 and the manager he refers to is no longer employed by Mago Estate Hotel. The hotel has new management for the 2005/2006 season and we have upgraded our restaurant, luxury Eden Suites and added new spa facilities. We are always working to improve our facilities and value feedback from our guests. Most of the issues listed in the posting have been addressed with the hiring of the new manager and by improvements to the hotel facilities. We have also updated our web-site to emphasize the very unique Eco-resort aspect of our Shangri-La rooms which appeal to guests looking for rooms that are open to the nature of St. Lucia. Guests who want air-conditioning, television and kitchen facilities can choose our Eden Suites. We want to make sure that people select the type of accommodations that are right for them. Mago Estate is the only hotel in Soufriere with a mix of air-conditioned luxury suites as well as Eco-hotel rooms.
A little piece of paradise
from ragitails
Having got married in St Lucia in 2000 we had always said that we would go back for our 5th anniversary. As we were familiar with the island we decided when wereturned in January 2005 that we would hire a jeep and spend the two weeks at different resorts. Unfortunaltely this meant only two nights at Mago Estate. The journey from the airport was a pure delight taking in the scenery and everyone was so helpful in ensuring we found the hotel. On arrival I was a bit taken aback to be greeted by Toby the security/gardener/baggage handler and...
