we booked this hotel through thomson, who throughout our stay, we have to say, were unbelievably helpful and kind. it's just a shame that the hotel didn't do the tour operator justice. majorca is a great island, but if you're thinking of booking this hotel, think twice. ... more

I stayed here with my boyfriend for 4 nights of our holiday; the staff were so friendly and polite and couldn't do enough to help! The room was spotlessly clean and every time the maids came they left a little gift on the bed e.g. chocolate and a little handmade boat! We... more

Lovely bright hotel, fantastic beach, lovely pool, although we didn’t use it. Food very good and varied. We only stayed a long weekend, staff very friendly. Empty fridge in room?? We though water would have been an option. Plenty of Germans, so be warned, get up early for... more

Excellent hotel with spectacular views. Food was lovely and was always different. Accommodation was very clean with nice furnishings. Bars got a bit busy but after a walk there was plenty of space. Outdoor facilities were excellent with the beach just on your doorstep,... more

FIRSTLY, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL IF YOU WANT EVEN A MOMENT'S PEACE AND QUIET. Good points: Clean rooms, good standard. Kids clubs excellent. Kids reps very enthusiastic. Bad points: Two main ones really. Far, far too noisy - even for a family hotel. This hotel has a... more

nice break
we decided to take a last minute break and opted for majorca due to short flight time and cheap flights available last minute. after much research we decided to stay at the Riu Camp de Mar hotel as the reviews on trip advisor weren't too bad and the cost was reasonable. i booked throguh the Riu website and had no problems whatsoever making the booking. we had our expectations of the hotel and it defo met them. we knew it was a small quiet area and especially since we were going in end of april we knew it would be pretty dead but thats what we were looking for. uopn arrival everything was to our taste. friendly reception staff. we got checked in with no problems, even given a free safe in our room. we went straight to lunch too. the room was a little on the small side but we had a nice big double bed and my 4 year old had a nice sized bed too. the room was very clean. bathroom had a bath with shower in it. the pool is nice and big but there isnt much room around it for sun beds so you do have to get in there early. sun beds are reserved by guests witht he typical towel system. but it wasnt a problem for us this time of year. kids clubs are great. there is even a little park onsight. they do loads with them, face painting, dressing up, outdoor games etc. and you can see them from the pool too so if youre like me and like to keep a close eye you can rest assured. all inclusive was good. limited alcohol choice though, especially cocktails but ok. i am a fussy eater and my 4 year old is too but we always managed to find somehting we liked to eat. even if by the last few days we did start to get alittle board of it! but it is fine. we did get a few days of rain so we made use of the indoor pool and jacuzi. small but useful due to the rain. deep pool for young children, must be supervised. there is also a gym and sauna, small but nice to have. overall i would say we had a nice break and i am a fussy traveller. i would recommend this hotel if you like low key holidays. this area is good to soak up the sun and its also good for small children. beach was clean and very near. small cost for sun beds though.
Riu Camp de Mar- Excellent service and facilities
We had a wonderful stay at the campo de mar. The food and service was excellent. We had all inclusive and valued the fact of not bringing along a wallet. The waitors were very friendly and all in all you felt very comfortable and welcome. The rooms are nice and we had a nice view to the sea. The walls are thin though so bring along ear plugs. The weather was cold and we could not sun bath or swim . Instead we hiked on paths that took us to the nearest towns. The bus transportation is easy to get to, just outside the hotel , and it takes you to the closest towns and Palma. The Riu Camp de mar is right next to a beautiful golf course. We like playing golf and was disappointed that the rate for a round was 90 euro. It looked like it was quite empty too so their must be others that also thought the price too expensive. All in all , a perfect stay
loved it
I stayed at the riu the last two wk's in August with my two sons aged 10 and seven, we absolutely loved it, staff were very friendly, and kids club staff very friendly. rooms were small but ok, i would say the hotel bordered on a 3* plus, not fully a 4* This hotel is mainly over run by germans and the french, which for the first couple of days was anoying due to lack of communication and lack of sun beds, and yes its true in this hotel you do have to be up at the crack of dawn to just get one!!! Met some really great english families and my boys made so many friends!!!! the all inclusive is fab for childeren during the day you can help yourself to soft drinks, slush drinks chocolate drinks wine beeer etc,,, The restaurant was very nice, staff very helpful, again brill the All Inclusive for the children as they could go up and pick whatever they wanted to eat, there is such a big range. the hotel is right on top of the beach which is great not too big or too small, kids loved it, Camp De Mar is a very quiet place with a handful of shops and restaurants. this place was ideal for myself and my two boys I can say if its a quiet holiday with some light entertainment and wanting a stress free holiday this would be the place to go to!!!!!
Couldn't wait to leave
Date: October 2006. My wife and I stayed here from 18th Sept to 2nd Oct 2006. The resort was very attractive (with a lovely beach), and at first sight, so was the hotel. However, we found that English were outnumbered by Germans by about 3:1. That wouldn't have been so bad, but wave after wave of large, very noisy, mainly male groups would appear. There was little escape. Apart from this, on our fifth day, my wife slipped on a wet mopped floor (no warning signs), and broke her wrist. We had to find a doctor, and make three visits to the clinic in Palma ourselves. There was no help from the hotel at all, and they denied liability. Nevertheless, we found the food to be quite good, restaurant staff pleasant, and enjoyed the all-inclusive arrangement. Our room was small, with little storage space, but the balcony view from the seventh floor was good. You could see sunbeds being claimed at first light, for goodness' sake! We might come back to the resort sometime, but definitely not to the Riu Camp de Mar Hotel.
Not what you expect from Riu
We stayed at the Riu for 9 nights, 2 adults and 1 child. The hotel is in a very pretty spot overlooking the bay at camp de mar. The rooms are tiny there was very little room and storage space. It would still have been small with just 2 sharing, we found it very claustrophobic. The quality of the food was good but limited, there did not seem the variety we have seen at other Riu hotels, also the dining room is very large and noisy. The pool area is also quite small for such a big hotel so sun beds were at a premium. The staff were friendly however, especially the Animacion team. We will not be returning.
Not really a Riu
My wife & I stayed at this hotel from 1st to 11th September 2006. We have stayed exclusively at Riu hotels since 2000 and we are Riu class members. In our opinion this hotel does not resemble any Riu hotel we've stayed at. 1. Rooms: Very small with minimal storage space for clothes etc. In our room the fridge did.nt work, hairdryer only worked sometimes & the very small TV had no English speaking channels. For those of you who smoke all rooms as far as we know were non smoking as is the rest of the hotel except for a row of tables in the lounge bar. 2. Reception: We were surprised by the very low key welcome we recieved, normally at a Riu hotel you are treated like a long lost member of the family. There is no porterage available, this is very unusual for a Riu hotel. 3. Food: Very limited in fact it was a nutritionists nightmare,e.g. one day at lunchtime at the main cooking station they had pork, ravioli, greenbeans, rice, chips carrots & fried eggs. 4. Swimming pool & grounds: Swimming pool was very nice but too few sunbeds. There are sunbeds available outside on a paved area next to the sea, for two sunbeds & parasol costs seven euros a day. The grounds around the pool & outside the entrance were strewn with litter. Cigarette butts & broken glass around the pool area. The reason for this was lack of staff, only one man was detailed to keep the entire area around the hotel clean. He was also responsible for collecting the money for the sunbeds outside the hotel. In every Riu hotel we've visited they have had teams of cleaners working inside & outside of the hotels all day. 5. Lounge bar: The lounge bar is largely self service e.g. Beer, soft drinks & coffee. Bar staff serve spirts. This serves both lounge and pool. When we stayed here the toilets in the lounge bar stank to high heaven even after they had been cleaned. In the mens toilet there are two urinals one of which was always covered with a black dustbin sack. The cubicals had holes in the ceilings where I assume the extractors should have been. Everybody complained about the stench. 6. Entertainment: Except for two outside acts that we enjoyed the rest was dire. overall this is NOT a four star Riu hotel, based on our experience at other hotels in this chain it seems and feels like a scruffy three star and like most of the other British guests we met we could'nt wait to go home. We were told by the Rep that the Riu chain of hotels had been purchased by Tui the German holiday company if this is Tui's idea of service they can forget about our business.
sunbed shortage
Arrived expecting a nice relaxing quiet hotel ,I was in for a shock.Hotel was nearly full(950 guests) and only 300 sunbeds.Pool area was overun by unsupervised children, eventually found a qiieter location but you had to be up early to claim a sunbed.Food was ok for half the week then they seemed to loose the plot ,definitely not up to the standard of the Riu hotels in the Carribean.Rooms were small but clean, staff were friendly and tried hard .Problems with lack of seating in the bars after dinner.Basically the hotel has far too many bedrooms in relation to its recreational area, wont be repeating the experience.
+ and -
OK, we have spent 2 weeks there in July 2005. Location: + quiet + clean + good view - lack of places to go, most probably you need a car for all your stay Hotel: + surprisingly clean for 4**** resort/hotel, both inside and outside + reception is good + all staff is nice and helpful, special thanks to barman Jose + dinner (good selection and taste) + pool looks good, big and clean + beach is clean and just a 30 seconds walk from hotel + I belive that all the rooms are seaview. - LACK OF SUNBEDS. During the peak season you need to rush at 08am to the pool area in order to reserve the sunbed(s), otherwise you have no chance to get it until the evening. Actually the problem arising from the very very limited space around the pool. They simply have no space to put additional sunbeds. In fact all the space around the pool, including places which are defenately never been designed for that, are filled with sunbeds. But it is still not enough. - bad time slots for breakfast and lunch. English breakfast finishes at 10am and Continental breakfast (available until 12) is simply not worth to go at all. - dissapointing meals selection for the lunch. - no snack bar to cover the periods between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner - entertainment is boring and unprofessional - again you need to rush and secure your table for the entertainment time. If you finishing your dinner at 21.30 you have no chance to sit and see the entertainment at 22.00 due to the lack of tables. - everything is closed in the hotel & around after 24.00, you simply have nothing to do after that time - no room service (Am I asking too much?) Overall I would probably visit this hotel again but only when I know for sure they have fixed the problem with sunbeds availability (at least).
great hotel and location
Stayed at the Riu during May. We chose this resort as we knew it to be on the quiet side and as my husband was recovering from an illness it suited us. We chose the hotel because we believed that Riu's had a good reputation, we was not dissapointed. The food was very good, the reception area and rooms very nice. Staff very helpful, Jose in the Bar is fun and gets up on stage when the entertainment is on, in fact he is sometimes bettter than them. That is one of the down sides, the evening entertainment is a bit limited althouth there are a few bars in the resort if you want to go out The bus service is very good and regular and the cost of a taxi from Palma Airport - 40 Euros approx. Lovely scenery nice pool area but a bit limited for space in the sunny parts. We can recommend this hotel and resort if you are looking for a quiet relaxing break.
Stumbled upon this gem!
This 4* hotel is right on the shore of the Mediterranean and has wonderful food to suit most nationalities tastebuds. It is in a quiet resort ideal for families and couples. There is not much in the way of nightlife for the club-going scene. Nearby Port d'Andratx is a delightful place to dine out and is reached by car in less than 10 minutes. A walk along the harbour after nightfall is a must after that romantic dinner!
