My wife and I have just had 2 really good weeks at the Villa Real, Camp De Mar. The hotel itself, although basic, was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room very spacious with a large balcony overlooking the town square. Its a very small resort and we were not troubled by any noise, except when Spain won the world cup, which was a great night. The real Gem of this hotel is the pool area. It has the sun all day, a geart snack bar, lots of sun beds and brollies and a very clean pool. We counted about 50 sun beds with never more than about 10 being used, so there is lots of room. If you want basic but clean accomodation, friendly staff, a quiet resort and like a quiet pool area with lots of room, this is an excellent place

my wife and i have just returned and going to book again for september, we had a great holiday the staff were pleasant and helpful, the apartment was very clean, and comfortable. the area is very relaxing and peaceful, we had a car for the duration of our holiday and would recommend this extra so you can get to see more of this great island, especially the sierra trumantana mountain range, absolutely breathtaking. i have read some of the other reviews and honestly cannot see any reason for not recommending this wonderful, small and friendly hotel, we have been to pollenca, alcudia, soller, and also when our sons where younger to palma nova and magaluf, and this definatly rates as one of our better holidays on this fantastic island, probably not for the under 30s and party mobs, but if you want somewhere to chill out and recharge your batteries then this is the place. we have absolutly fallen in love with it, and will be there in september.

Party of 5 adults had previously asked for rooms together as one of our party was a single female. When we arrived we were all in completely different parts of the Hotel - single female had the largest room out of us all at the back of hotel with a brick wall for a view, we were at the front of hotel with largest balcony out of all 3 rooms. Really noisy, woken every morning at 5am with dustcarts, recycling lorries and coaches with arrivals for hotel across the road.
Other couples room was on opposite side of hotel overlooking the pool area but no sun at all on balcony all day.
Pool area was OK but water in pool was really cold.
Room was only cleaned once in the week that we were there. Linen and towels changed once the day before we left at 5pm, we left at 6am the following morning. Rubbish was not emptied, general cleanliness left a lot to be desired.
We had a terrific storm whilst we were there- hotel was flooded, stairs was very slippery but there was no staff on duty to clean up so we mopped corridors etc ourselves.
Reception was total waste of time we got one grunt when we arrived and one when we left.
Resort itself is very nice if you are looking for a laid back holiday but would definitely not recommend staying at this accommodation. One other tip the mosquitoes were out in full force so we had to shut windows and doors at night which left room very hot as no air conditioning or fans available.

I stayed at the Villa Real with my boyfriend, we were supposed to stay there for 10 nights, but we left after 6 nights and moved to the RIU hotel on the beach front.
Firstly when we arrived we were told that we couldn't go to our room yet as it hadn't been cleaned and it would be ready for 2pm. At 2pm we went to our room and the maids had not been, they turned up half an hour later. When trying to have a shower the water came out bright yellow, I left it for a few minutes but it still remained a light yellow colour but we had to make do!
Our balcony was a concrete area outside our ground floor room and it was uncomfortable to sit and try and relax whilst people walked past us sat there!
I think that the bed next door must have been against the same wall as ours because every movement and conversation was felt and heard all night! This led to the final straw and caused us to leave as it was difficult not getting any sleep with the crying baby next door.
The reception was only open for 3 hours a day and every time we went we had to wait 5 minutes for the receptionist to drag herself away from her computer! Which I found quite rude!
All the other staff were polite and friendly and once our room had been cleaned it was a clean place to stay. I wouldn't stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it to any one unless basic is what you’re looking for!
Camp De Mar is a beautiful area and I would recommend it for a quiet and relaxing holiday Paguera is a short taxi drive away and if you fancy an Indian restaurant the Ivory Tusk is excellent! Visit Camp De Mar as its beautiful but stay at a different hotel!

Just got back. Wow !! If you want a chill-out holiday then this is the place to go. Villa Real was converted from a hotel into apartments over a year ago. Very quiet when we were there. Talked to a couple who were into their 25th year of going. Don't get a ground floor apartment though as there is no view. Best views are from top floor, front near main entrance as you will get sea views between hotels opposite, both are 4* so you won't get drunken late night street concerts, if you get my drift, rear you get views over the pool and the mountains.
It doesn't matter about reception only open for 3hrs, after all it is self catering. Parking is on the streets in the area as it has no car park. We had no trouble this time of year and parked right outside most days. Apartments very clean but basic with only a fridge and a 2 ring hotplate, kettle etc with standard sink, but who wants to cook on holiday. No air con though didn't need it in Oct.
All linen provided and rooms serviced every other day. Staff are great and has a good size pool with bar, though pool not heated. Highly recommend this place out of the main season. Camp de Mar is fabulous. Just 2 minutes off the main route from east to west so access to the rest of the Island very quick and easy. The bay itself is stunning. If its good enough for a home for Michele Phiffer, Roger Moore and Schumaker, then need I say more?

In brief - a very pleasant, easy place to stay. Camp de Mar is relaxation in a picture postcard setting, with good food a 2-minute walk away from your hotel. Villa Real is understated, efficiently run, clean and a definite place to return to for adults who cherish peace and quiet over nightclubs and bars. It has a charm that brings people back year after year.
The long version:
I had read the previous reviews and now I've been I can agree with most of them.
The hotel reception is only open from 9am to 12pm (3hrs) each day. Once you know this, it isn't a problem. All the hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The place is very well kept, with the cleanest outdoor pool I have ever seen. Whilst not all the furniture is new (see the lounge) it is well maintained.
The rooms are newly refurbished and look it. Only the lack of air-conditioning count against them - not a problem for us in October, but I can see how they could be uncomfortably warm at the height of summer.
The pool and large terrace is very good - a quiet sun-trap with mountains in the background.
Do request a room facing the pool as the ones at the front of the hotel have the noise of the road (and regular coaches) and the bar terrace could keep you awake. We stayed 2 nights in apartment 107 - which was a bit noisy, then moved to 301 - quiet, high, perfect. The staff had no problem moving us as soon as a room at the back of the hotel became free.
Food - breakfast pastries from the bakery Andrea 200yds up the road were good. Hot sandwiches from the Bar Bagari were surprisingly good (the pork loin sandwich was especially tender).
If you're lazy, the very pleasant young lady at the hotel's poolside snack-shack makes good coffee, and the inevitable cheese'n'ham toasties for the Brits (other hot and cold food is available).
Dinner (evening) - you don't need to leave Camp de Mar - try Petit Abassador for good paella, seafood and desserts. Or La Siesta for fish and the roast lamb shoulder. Nether place is cheap, but offer good food at reasonable prices.
To summarise - go there, chill out, you'll like it!

Camp de Mar is a lovely quiet resort ideal for couples and families. The hotel is in a good position close to the beautiful beach. We were travelling with our two young children aged two and one. The positives about the hotel were that it was spotlessly clean, the rooms were spacious and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel has recently been converted to apartments so two rooms have been joined to make what is advertised as one bedroom apartments - but herein lies the big let-down for us. We booked this hotel believing it to be a "one bedroom apartment". Whenever we have stayed in Aparthotels before there has been a separate lounge and bedroom. There is no door between the lounge and bedroom in these apartments, only an open archway. In fact, there was no seating in the lounge area, only a single bed. For these reasons we feel this hotel should be advertised as studio apartments, not "one bedroom" which usually implies a separate living area. We had to creep around in complete darkness when we put the children in bed and ended up sitting on the balcony whispering over a candle since there was no outside light.
Although parts of the hotel have been upgraded recently (new lift, doors, windows, tiling, kitchenettes and some furniture), parts of it are very tired and it is VERY basic. We don't mind basic but the layout of the rooms makes it completely unsuitable for families with young children. My one piece of advice would be unless you fancy going to bed at the same time and in the same room as your children every night don't book this hotel. Having said all that if we found out that they had put doors in and a double bed settee in the lounge we would return.
We would recommend the Arco Iris 2000 restaurant (the yellow one at the end of the bay) for excellent and affordable food. We had good meals at Le Petit Ambassador (on beach) and Gran Sol (up the hill from the hotel) too. The pool bar does excellent and reasonable lunches and the bakery just before the Spar up the hill is great. Go to the supermarket in Peguera rather than shop at the Spar, you'll save a fortune!

I expected more then we got, that said the hotel was very clean if somewhat basic.
Reception was only open 3 hours daily so you were left to your own resources if you had a problem.
Camp de mar is very quiet with not a lot to do ideal if you just want to chill. The selection of restaurants is limited as are the bars, we went to pepe's just around the corner for a drink and he stays open till late.
Would we go again YES we would because you are guaranteed to chill.
P.S Not for the young clubbing type.

Just returned from a great holiday here. Lovely spacious apartments and spotlessly clean. Ample cooking facilities - fridge/freezer,kettle,and toaster - a great help with a young child(and a bath!).
Our 1 bed apt had a large living area with one bed then a bedroom via an archway which was ideal as our young daughter then had her 'own room' but was not too separated. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and it is so laid back.
Nice large pool with plenty of loungers and umbrellas and again always spotless. The pool bar offers a good range too.
We had lovely late nights relaxing with a beer on our huge balcony - must have been 20ft long! Lovely large shuttered doors that open out onto it from each room.
Camp de Mar is a really nice quiet family resort with few bars and restaurants but all offering reasonable fare. The beach is lovely and the sea really calm - again great for children. It’s also so close to many lovely places if you need a change of scenery - i.e. Puerto Andradtx, Peguera, and Palma.
There's a well stocked Spar just up the hill and a lovely little bakery handy for breakfast. There's also plenty of free parking down the road and in the street behind the tennis courts.
We loved it and would definitely return there - apartments and resort.

Fab, fab, fab. Been staying at the Villa Real since 1977, first visit to Camp de Mar in 1968. We have travelled to other places but always wish I was in Camp de Mar!
Got two holidays booked to the Villa Real this year, May and September 2007 and can’t wait.
The hotel will be apartments this year and I can’t wait to experience the changes. A fridge in our room, perfect for that bottle of cold white wine!
Long leisurely lunches spent at the Island restaurant are a must and evening meals at Arco Iris and Petit Ambassador... excellent.
Fancy a late drink, then sit outside by candlelight at the Petit bar, just on the beach and then move onto the 19th Hole for a final few drinks into the early hours.
Everything is great, truly relaxing and great fun.
I can’t recommend it enough.

Just back from 4 nights and feel like we've had a 10 day stay - excellent - clean, great value for money. Well situated in this little pearl of a resort. Pool is one of the cleanest I have ever seen and the pool bar lady is wonderful - nothing is too much trouble - fast service, good food - can't wait to go back.
