arrived at camp de mar asked for low ground was put on top floor, not nice. staff was good was moved within 2 hrs, if you want some where to go at night u either have to take a taxi or bus to next town, as there is nothing much around cam de mar its self, as for entertainment well it was very poor for a gold, the staff and reps in the hotel was very lovely very pleasent , would not go again but if any one goes avis bar at the villa real across the road is good he provides english music and makes you feel welcome and alot cheaper on drinks then the hotel. take own teabags coffee etc,

my husband and me went to camp de mar on the 24th july 2010 for 10 days what a briliant time we had, the room was lovely very clean the food was excellent nothing you could complain about at all the young Thompson girls worked very long hours and kept the hotel in great entertainment all the staff were very nice and I would definately go back there it was bliss. Very quiet though so if want a big yahoo of a night dont bother, we loved it and couldnt find a fault with anything brillaint time. and a big thankyou to Thompson girls Becky and Rachel you made our holiday so fun all the best girls x And it really wasnt that bad for getting a sunbed around the pool its was very good.

In our opinion this is not a four star hotel,it is a little dated.
The Restaurant could do with being larger to avoid crowding at peak times, but all the staff both in the restaurant and bar were always helpful
Depending where your room is depends on your view. We were at the side,on the 2nd floor with a very good view over the cove. Our room appeared to be part of the original hotel band importantly did not have double glazing which is very unfortunate because it meant that we had little rest throughout our stay.
The adjacent hotel played music late into the night, and buses were dropping off and picking up at that hotel at various times during the early hours. The noise became intolerable and meant we awoken at about 5am on several occasions with the chattering of departing guests. The diesel engines and bleeping of buses reversing could not be avoided. It was really very bad.
We did not find the Thompson Team leader very sympathetic, and was defensive when we complained.
The Manager confirmed that he would report matter to the owners but I am surprised if others had not complained previously.
The other interesting event is at 8.30am every morning when the doors to the poolside are opened there is a race to the sun loungers and shades, some people waiting an hour. It was like the start of the Grand National. It is a sight not to be missed.
Overall for the room we had, the lack of rest we felt that the holiday was over priced.

I have just read the reviews below about the Playa Camp de Mar and wonder if some of you have actually stayed at the same hotel as us. I am surprised there were criticisms. We have been to this hotel 7 times now and cannot find that many faults. We always recommend it to friends and strangers and some of the other guests have been returning for decades - sometimes twice a year. That must speak volumes.
Okay, the weather can let you down, but the Playa have very helpful staff and we find the food good, plentiful and tasty. One review mentions blancmange and tapioca as puddings. I have never seen these on the menu. Fruit, gateaux, ice cream and specials. Nothing is stewed and it's certainly not 'chips with everything' as suggested. There is always a vegetarian dish and they now cater for vegans too.
Being a child free holiday you can relax in comfort by the pool. There is poolside entertainment at set times: aerobics, quiz and so on and these can get a little loud - but, hey, you're on holiday - expect a little noise and fun. Believe me, it is far worse at the hotel next door with hordes of under-8's charging around at full tilt. The Playa had to install a gate to keep out other hotel guests who were coming in to enjoy the quiet.
The evening show is outside and guests do tend hang about till late enjoying the warm night air and a few, perhaps slightly too many, drinks. This is a holiday hotel, not a monastery.
The majority of rooms are well appointed and are swept and cleaned everyday, overlook the pool and have a fantastic view of the bay. However, there are rooms to the side and back of the hotel that should be regarded as cupboards. Prospective guests should be made aware of these rooms when booking but Thomson - not the hotel - allocate the rooms and sets the prices.
We were caught out October last year when we booked online for a sea view room only to be allocated one overlooking the tennis courts and car park at the side. This was done by Thomson and the hotel manager easily organised an alternative as it was late in the season and the hotel was only 70% full.
Don't expect the reps to sort out any problems. The main man has several hotels and resorts to look after and is not on site all day everyday. The other reps are really the entertainment staff. Think 'Hi-de-hi' and you will get the picture.
While on the subject of reps, they will try to flog you the Thomson excursions. Remember, they get commission on this. The hotel also have excursions, so compare the two. I have been on the Caves of Drach and Inca Market with Thomson. Both were good but rush, rush, rush. Yet the hotel-arranged trip to Pollensa, Cap Formentor and Alcudia was very relaxed and cheap.
If you want to do Inca Market on a Thursday, then go under your own steam - early bus to Palma and then train to Inca. You then get 3 hours at this fantastic market instead of 1 Thomson one. Likewise Andratx market on Wednesday - it's only 10 minutes up the road from the resort. Public transport in Mallorca is reliable and cheap.
We go to Camp de Mar to enjoy the scenery, the company, the atmosphere. To relax, to let someone else do the cooking and make the beds. To have a good time, to go shopping in Palma at C&A, to stroll along the promenade in Paguera, to haggle in the market, to have a laugh.
What do YOU want to do?

If its a beach and great pool you are looking for then look no further.
Our party of 4 consisted of 2 over 50's and 2 over 70's and for us it was perfect. If you are a younger couple then I would say you would have to travel to the next town for nightlife. Taxi's were very reasonable.
The hotel provided evening entertainment every night and I must add that the Friday night show done by the Thompson Gold reps was a winner.
The food was buffet style and they provided an excellent choice at every meal.
The rooms we booked had twin beds, with balcony and sea view. We were advised to ask for this and I'm glad we did - it was a perfect view and you could also sit on your balcony and watch the evening show. For those that enjoy their sleep, the show ended at 11pm.
The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable as well.
There was quite a lot you could do, as well as beach and pool and all could be booked from the hotel.
We went on the 'Secrets of Mallorca tour', which was enjoyable, in an 8 seater mini bus which enabled the driver to go down little village roads, away from the tourist areas.
A 'must see' if you can is the 'Son Amar dinner show', it was fantastic.
We were slightly let down by the 'Aquarium cat' as the 'submarine part' was standing only and our elderly companions couldn't manage that. They failed to mention that in their brochure.
The staff at the hotel were very friendly and always at your service.
I would definately recommend this hotel.

This was our first time and categorically the last to this hotel that was described as quiet and relaxing. For travellers arriving in High Season beware because you will not get to sleep before 12.30am or even 1.00am
Even during the day the Thomsons Reps dressed up in flared green lurex suits with Afro wigs and equipped with loud speakers disrupted the possible serenity of a quiet sunbathe.
The food genuinely looked good and the staff were attentive. We could have saved ourselves over £2,000 and just gone out for some pub grub which would have been better,
For those of you who like Paper Lace and the Barron Knights at ear-shattering volumes by all means come to this hotel.
Please note that I had to give a rating of 1 because what I really wanted to give isn't an option. For those people like us who enjoy peace and quiet.......

Returned home on 29th September after a very disappointing week at this hotel. The location was just as in the brochure and we had a very good sea view. We chose this Thomson Gold holiday because the resort was small and we hoped that this meant quiet, it was, except for the Hotel.
The walls were very thin and this meant that we could hear almost everything that went on in the rooms either side of ours and possibly beyond that. We had a TV one side until midnight and on the other side at 06.30, plus when the entertainment finished we had the sound of guests obviously on the tipsy side shouting and worse echoing through the floors and walls.
Why the entertainment had to be so loud is beyond me I would have thought that it could be heard 10 miles out to sea and if you were not deaf when you went, you would be after! The only good thing was that there was a local restriction that the outdoor entertainment had to finish by 23.30pm.
We are vegetarians and therefore expect some difficulties with the food, however, where the 96% food rating came from in the Gold brochure came from is a mystery to me. There was one token vegetarian dish each night, nothing very exciting and the week that we stayed we did not see any fresh vegetables served. They were all tinned or frozen. The salad bar was adequate however the previous evenings vegetables were quite often on the salad bar, even cold brussel sprouts.
This is our 4th Gold holiday and by far the most disappointing, there are better, so if you are vegetarian or want a quiet holiday this one may not be the one for you.

We had 2 weeks at the Playa Camp De Mar, a little rain for a few days in the first week then weather very good 38-40 most days so very good.
Hotel very clean, food good but not much variety on the potato front . The room we had was fine but the balcony was tiny, my other half is 6ft 2 & 16st so he had it to himself. The pool great and beach lovely. Staff in hotel were polite and very helpful, bar staff second to none. We had lots of days out so enjoyed the holiday very much, we will definitely go back again.

My wife and I booked at this hotel for 1 week commencing 30/08/07 after a recommendation from a friend. The hotel was supposedly 4 star and we are very surprised at its rating.
We were booked into room 101 !! Which when we saw it we were absolutely astounded. The room was the size of a box room in a small house. The room was on the bottom floor of the hotel and the balcony opened up onto a taxi rank and car park. The noise for most of the night was horrendous.
We complained to the rep and she approached the management of the Hotel and all they offered was a move to a room above us which made us no better off.
We then made a decision to make the best of a bad job and use the rest of the facilities at the Camp de Mar and never to use Thomson holidays again.

This is the best Thomson Gold holiday we have ever been to.
The staff we excellent and very helpful, from the manager to the pool staff to the hotel cleaners. Nothing was too much trouble.
The entertainment was exceptionally good! Kirsten and Claire (Gold Hosts) worked very hard and the resident Duo (Reaction) played a huge variety of music to suit all tastes and had us up dancing every night!
I would give this hotel 5 stars due to the fantastic staff all round!
