Hotel Rex

I agree completely w/the other reviewers--place was an incredible value, rooms simple yet tastefully decorated & clean. Excellent location (although if you have a car like we did, you can't just drive up to the front door of the hotel due it's location on a pedestrian street). The owner Thierry, was very friendly, helped with the bags and reminded me of a French "Kramer". We had a double bed plus a single bed for my daughter and only paid 55Euros. We stayed at Hotel Rex twice this summer and it was great both times. The location is great, right on a main pedestrian shopping street and within walking distance of the beach and Old Town. The price could not be better, only 60 Euros for a double room with a kitchen attached! The rooms are simple, spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and remembered us on our second stay. Be prepared for some stairs and no air conditioning. But these are minor inconveniences for such a great find in Nice! I don't know why this place doesn't get a higher star rating, perhaps the lack of a lift and air conditioning, but that said, it was better than a lot of two stars places we have stayed at. Thierry was a great help when we had to cut our vacation short due to a family emergency (faxed another hotel, called twice to confirm, charged for just one night, ect.) THANK YOU again, Thierry. The hotel was right in the middle of Place Massena, 50 steps away from Galaries Lafayette and 5 mins to anywhere else that matters in Nice, such as the Old Town, seaside, tourism office, etc. We had a spacious and clean double room that was charmingly decorated with toilet/bathroom and a kitchen thrown in for about 55-65 euros (cant remember the actual amount) in September, a real bargain in such an expensive city. This hotel is in an excellent location. 5 minutes walk from the old town, 5 minutes walk to the beach, and right in the heart of shopping and restaurants. Very quiet despite the buzz all around the hotel. The owners are extremely hospitable and have excellent local recommendations for dining. The hotel is very clean and orderly with a handful of rooms. Spent two nights here on 10th & 11th of Aug 2006. Our hearts sank when we saw it, up lots of stairs and with the bags it seemed ten times worse. After the 2 nights the stairs were irrelevant the place is spotless and full of character. Thierry is so helpful and friendly and you feel totally safe there. Location was second to none. If we were going back again we would defintely stay there.

We recently stayed at Hotel Rex for 3 nights (mid-August). The room was simple but clean & safe - more than we had expected for this price. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The central location is awesome and surprisingly quite. Don't expect luxury but a great place for budget travelers. We would definitely stay there again!

I highly recommend this hotel to other travellers visting Nice. The staff was friendly, the hotel clean and quiet, and the location was convenient. I found the room larger than expected (for France) and was pleased with the warm, inviting decor.

I liked Hotel rex, it's in a excellent location, clean and Thiery is such a great guy and for the price I shouldn't even complain but you should be aware of a few things if you already don't know. 1) No air conditioning and in the rex there is no air curculation because of it's location (inner court) 2) they don't change the bath towels and they are the size of face cloths 3)Stairs...and more stairs and then...some more to get to it. After these 3 things being said it's good value for the money.

Great spot..... book it now!!!! The manager was really friendly, always smiling and up for a bit of craic. The place is small, but it is clean comfortable and basic. The gem is its location, right bang in the centre of town and the next time I go Back to Nice I'll definitely book this place.
