Reviews of Mare Monte Hotel, Kyrenia, Cyprus

Mare Monte Hotel, Kyrenia

Hotel Class:
HW User Rating:

4.0 / 10
Located right on a beautiful sandy beach, the Mare Monte has arguably one of the picturesque settings of any hotel on the island. The hotel's simple accommodation is ideal for anyone looking for a real "get-away-from-it-all" break, though the hotel is only 10 miles west from the centre of Kyrenia. The hotel is set in pretty and well-kept gardens.

Please note that there are NO 2 bed bungalows at all, families of 3+ are all put into the one room, which is pretty crammed! There are no kitchen facilities, only a fridge!

One week - you’d survive, any longer - forget it!

It’s advertised as being 'bungalows on the beach' whilst the beach is very close it’s not as described. pretty area which is unspoilt with beautiful flowers and vineries but the beach is dirty and weekends are just a nightmare as it’s packed full of locals and it’s a mad dash for a sun lounger!

Breakfast is normal - good choice of foods.

Lunch - difficult if your vegetarian as they don’t cater for us! Had to spend a week eating salad and bread! The lunch restaurant is a nice place - surrounded by the sea with ever so helpful staff who are extremely pleasant.

Dinner - hmm can’t really comment on this. Buffet food - hot dishes as well as cold. Cold is all different salads etc (which aren’t labelled) Cooked food is all meat so once again us vegetarians are eating salad and bread! The waiters take your plates away before you’ve even finished which is extremely annoying as no one likes to be rushed!

Not many English people they’re at all - the majority are Turks/Londoners, who visit family etc. Wouldn’t recommend to people with children as there is no entertainment or facilities to cater for them. ideal if you want a week of doing nothing and not really talking to anyone!

Not long been taken over by the local government who don’t want to invest any money in it at all which is odd because it could be a truly fantastic place.

There are no shops or any other outside facilities close by, everywhere requires the local bus or a taxi. taxis are quite cheap but everywhere is a good 20 minute drive, which can be quite annoying when you just need to pop to the shop for mundane items!

If your going to Northern Cyprus - go to the Merrit or the Jasmine Hotel - both are 5 star and are just fantastic!
