Hated this place
I choose this hotel based on the Tripadvisor reviews but was very disappointed in this place. When we arrived after a long journey from Washington DC after midnight we only wanted to sleep. This was however almost impossible since the sheets and pillows were absolutely disguisting. It smelled like persons who have not washed themselves for 3 months. Welcome to Cuba. I am not kidding or exagerating, it was trully disgusting and I have been to many developing countries and definately didn't expect some 5 star hotel. The airconditioning didn't... more
Only ten minutes taxi ride from Habna Old Town
We rerently returned from El Presidente Hotel and although we had a thoroughly good time, the hotel could have been better. Due to delays on the flight we arrived at the hotel very late in the evening and were given our keys and sent to our rooms, we later discovered that late arrivals were given a welcoming drink plus a cold dinner or sandwiches. On another occassion we were late to dinner after a long excursion we had to pay for our sandwiches, which we also were told later on should have been free of charge. Other than these two... more
Surly reception staff
We have recently returned from Havana. The Hotel Presidente is a 10 minute taxi ride from Old Havana - which is likely the area that you will want to be in during the day/evening. although the immediate area around the hotel is OK, there were no restaurants that we could find - the restauarnt in the hotel is merely avarage. Overall we were not impressed with the hotel - the bar area was small, the rooms OK but nothing special. This is a hotel that is primarily used by French and Spanish speaking staff - so do not expect to hear much... more
beautiful rooms
We were delayed due to problems with Air France, and arrived late and without luggage. The Hotel Presidente was welcoming, friendly and clean, and had all the necessary toiletry requirements in the huge bathroom. Breakfast was basic but good, and the lounge area was comfy and well air-conditioned.The bedroom was really relaxing; plenty of space to move around, and room to sit and read.
Great Honeymoon Spot
We stayed at the Hotel Presidente for a week, and loved it. It rained for most of the week, but hey, we were on our honeymoon, so it really didn't matter. We sat on the wrap-around balcony and were totally sheltered by the rain. We went to the pool bar and stayed out of the rain there too. There was still lots to do and see. The staff were AMAZING and my husband and I were treated very well. I have been to Cuba a number of times, and I normally find that the reception to be quite snobby - but not at this place. The hotel had charm,... more
Presidente, Vedado and Nacional, with Hurricane Ivan
HOTEL PRESIDENTE, VEDADO AND NACIONAL, with Hurricane Ivan. I have stayed in Havana, with my wife and our eight month baby girl, from the eighth till the twenty fourth of September (2004). The beginning wasn´t very good, as three suitcases were stolen from the coach, on the way from Havana José Martí Airport, to the different hotels, everything happened on the almost one and only traffic-lights in that area, some guys in the street started shouting, They are stealing the luggage! “ladrones” then the driver and the guide in... more
Value, value, value
We have just returned from two weeks in Cuba. We started in Havana and stayed at the Presidente. This hotel is extremely modern and comfortable, and only a limited ride (5 mins) from Havana Vieja. It also has a nice swimming pool. We paid €80 a night for a double room, including breakfast. Half the price of the hotels in town. I would have no problem recommending this hotel to anyone. One tip - if in Havana, check out whether there are any shows on in the Hotel Nacional. We went to one and had dinner and music (Buena Vista... more
Viva Presidente!
This hotel had fantastic service especially the bellboy service. The rooms were clean and spacious. The lobby had old world charm and was loaded with antiques. The view from my window was of the Florida Straits, beautiful and blue. I stayed twice at this hotel and enjoyed both stays. My only problem was a result of my openning my window in my bathroom. I left it open during the night and when nature called , I went and nearly passed out. I gagged. The smell was a cross between chemical factory waste , crematorium, diesel fume and sewer.... more
Fair enough
When you make a trip to Cuba, one of the things you MUST take really care of is the hotel choice, because there's no luxury at all (even if you go to a five star hotel), so a clean hotel is all you have to fight for (and each person I asked find it quite a hard work). Having said that, the PRESIDENTE is quite a good choice: excellent location, very nice building, nice decoration, extremely pleasant staff, great buffet breakfast, nice pool area, lots of taxis available... Our room was very spacious, all clean enough, and with great views, the... more
Feel like a Movie Star!
I highly recommend staying at the Hotel Presidente -- gorgeous lobby, beautiful wraparound marble veranda, fabulous pool (marble deck, of course)& spacious (and clean) rooms. It's located in Vedado, outside manic Habana Veija but still near good restaurants (try La Chansonnier), markets & a 5 min cab ride downtown. Walking distance to La Rampa (a must-see avenue at midnight). Service was excellent & the staff were very friendly & helpful. The hotel is large enough to offer a wide range of amenities but small enough for a personal... more
