Hotel Los Delfines

Here is some background: I am in my 20's and travelled to Cuba for sun and Sand. Before this trip i had never travelled outside of my home country of canada. So take this in mind. I am a veteran Cuba traveller, having had my first trip over thirty years ago, and then rediscovered Cuba, about 20 times, in the last seven years. I have been to Varadero quite a few times but preferred the south east of Cuba. Los Delfines is a nice clean Hotel with polite staff, however, when your are advised by the respectionist to put your luggage in their "SECURE ROOM" while you wait for your room or bus to the airport. DON'T. My digitial camera went missing on the first day, (I didn't report it ,as I thought I had left it at home, but it isn't here either) On the last day, once again I am told to put my luggage in the so-called SECURE ROOM , and low and behold my MP3 PLAYER goes missing. I will start by saying it was better than I had initailly expected. I had trouble finding anything out about this resort but I later found out that it was because until about 6 weeks ago it was strtictly an Italian resort. I was glad when we were not the only people getting off of the bus apon arrival. There were English speaking people, and the staff could communicate quite well in English. A vacation, really is what you make of it MONEY EXCHANGE • Exchange everything at the airport, it’s a lot cheaper than anywhere else • Hotel Rate was 1.4076, so for $80CAD, I got @56.85CUC, ask for receipts they will try to rip you off • Warning there are cleaning ladies in the washroom that will demand a tip, and if you don’t have money they will point at your jewelry, so keep tissue paper in your purse because sometimes they will hold the tissue paper from you if you don’t tip them, this is TRUE for... more

Just a quick lead up so you may understand were this review is coming from. I'm a 43 year old male,from southern Ontario, I traveled single on this trip, have been to All Inclusives about 15-17 times, my 5th trip to Cuba, and 4th to Varadero, (Blau,Sarinas La Selinas,Breezes and now Delfines). We were travelling independently in Cuba for 3 weeks and decided we needed to stay put someplace and not travel over Christmas. We shared a Taxi from Havana to Varadero with a Mexican couple ($10 for two). The driver took us to a couple of Hotels that we spotted but they were not what we were looking for. Then we saw the Delfines, smaller than some hotels (not a high rise) which was nice and right on the Beach. We checked in for 5 days all inclusive. The best about this hotel is its location. It is in the centre of Varadero and right on the beautiful beach. The food however tasted horrible. It is also impossible to get away from the VERY loud music which are played from 10am to 11pm every day, by the pool, in the bar and at the beach. This is not the place to be if you want a quiet holiday. The hotel is full of italian package tourists, and the staff speaks only spanish and italian, no english. Good value for money, nice rooms, nice beach and very decent night music gigs. Although breakfast was boring and mojitos & daiquiries neither tasted nor cost right (comparatively double price), I very much enjoyed my staying there!
