Do Not Stay Here...
We stayed at the Hacienda Tres Rios from December 21st until December 27th 2008. What was to be a nice relaxing get away with the family turned into a pain in my [--]. Let me say the weather was nice, the drinks were good and the diving great so all in all it wasn't a TERRIBLE vacation but that was all in spite of the hotel. I will divide my review into different categories for ease of reading. Reservations - Although the reservations process was fairly straight-forward, what was presented to us at the time of reservation as to... more
Vegetarians Beware!!
Just returned from 6 days in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I have stayed at various all-inclusive resorts along the Maya Riviera because I love the beaches, close proximity to decent scuba diving, the charm of Playa del Carmen and the wonderful hotels. My husband booked this trip to the Hacienda Tres Rio after making sure they had plenty of vegetarian offerings at the advertised 7 restaurants. They assured him that was the case. Upon checking in, they had put us in the wrong type of room and said that the King Junior Suite which we had paid... more

Good but not quite ready for prime time
We did an RCI exchange to Hacienda Tres Rios for Christmas week. Originally, we had two 2-bedroom units reserved for a small family reunion, by my sister and her kids had to cancel. We decided to go anyway - 4 people total in a 2 bedroom unit. The resort is quite nice and also not finished. By the time we arrived there were four restaurants open - the main buffet, the Mexican themed restaurant, a pizza bar by the pool and a grill/bar area also by the pool. The food was definitely the highlight of the trip. Oscar, the executive chef... more
New Hacienda Tres Rios
This is a brand new property close to Playa del Carmen. We were there during a VERY soft opening. There were only 2 restaurants open-no gym or spa. There was still major building going on behind the main buildings so it really didn’t affect our stay. They only had about 60 rooms ready for occupancy, but we managed to get one of the suites with a Jacuzzi on the balcony. Their service was amazing although we did have about 6 employees to every guest. Time will tell whether this service continues with higher occupancy. We found out that... more
Future 5-star Hotel
First of ALL... THE HOTEL IS STILL UNFINISHED. Only the 1 restaurant is open, not all activities are operating, they are stil cleaning the beach, jacuzzi's still being built, the gym is not open, and there is ALOT of construction going on during the day. With that being said, I would wait about 3-4 months before staying here. However, with all the the unfinished work this is still one heck of a hotel!! 1. The rooms are awesome and top notch. Comfortable and cozy beds, 2-person jacuzzi on your balcony (some rooms only), marble... more
Will be a very nice resort, but it opened too soon
We spent three nights at Hacienda Tres Rios in early December, 2008. The hotel, which is the first of several that will be built in the Tres Rios complex, was still in the construction process, so only a very small portion of the facilities were available. Our room overlooked the central pool area and also had an ocean view (in fact the way the hotel is laid out all rooms will have ocean views). The room was very large, with all tile floors and very nice furniture. There was more than adequate storage, a nice sofa and sitting area,... more
We had a wonderful stay even though it was under construction
We came across the Hacienda tres rios through a RCI trade. Our stay was from 9-16 November. We were quite surprised when we arrived and the hotel was not 80% completed like RCI stated. The resort apologized and asked us if we would like to move, so we figured we would give it a shot and stayed at the resort. We were over satisfied with our stay! Rooms: We stayed in a two bedroom and there was more than enough room for us and our three year old son. The beds and pillows were comfortable. There is a mini bar in the room that is... more
Were on a timeshare tour
We were also staying at Sunset Fishermen's and were invited to a timeshare sales tour at Hacienda Tres Rios. The resort is impressive - beautifully decorated suites exactly as described by the last reviewer "traveler 2828". We found the resort too big for us....we like the size of Sunset Fishermens....The reason that I am writing is to make everyone aware that although they are booking rooms at the moment that no one should book there yet. The pools are ready and beautiful.....no one is around except construction workers and there... more
enjoyed tour of Tres Rios in Playa Del Carmen
I along with my sister-in-law took a guided tour in September 2008 -- the hotel was gorgeous and well under construction............... the rooms and restaraunts were also really nice. It is easy to see that it will be magnificent upon completion which I would have to believe will still take a bit of time. The prices definately sounded reasonable. I hope to go back in the next few years to see it all completed. I can only beleive that it will be above 5-star ratings when all is done and finished.
took tour - still under construction
This place actually isn't open yet, so I can't offer a rating on much of anything... just verbal observations. We took a tour of the construction site as part of a sales promotion and I have to say, it was pretty impressive. It sits in the middle of around 300 acres of mangrove marshes filled with sink holes, as well as, as the name implies, three converging rivers. It is being billed as an eco-resort. The phase that is currently under construction is due to open in November '08. While there were easily a thousand men working the... more
