Grand Sunset Princess

Family of 5 stayed at this complex Dec. 21-28,07 ( 3rd week since opening) . Booked Sunwing from Vancouver therefore flight, transportation to and from hotel and all-inclusive stay taken care of. Zoom airline (departure delayed 2 hours each time) provided 2 meals and 2 movies. $ for ear phones. Grand Sunset Princess/Riviera about 70 % functional. Rooms available needs better maintenance with stocking refrigerator daily, do not disturb signs, peep hole on front door, remotes for tv, dvd players in all rooms, soap dish on vanity... more

We arrived at the Grand Sunset Princess on December 15, 2007. I like some other travelers was a bit worried about the construction concerns that I heard from other people visiting this resort. NO NEED TO WORRY...THIS RESORT IS AMAZING!!!! This is my 4th time visiting Mexico, and I can easily say that this is the nicest resort I have ever been too. Food: The food is incredible! My wife and two sons aged 9 & 11 stayed on the sunset side from Dec 29th - Jan 5th. The hotel is fully constructed in that all buildings are complete. Many rooms are not yet ready and work is taking place at a furious pace to get them ready. I will address many comments that i have heard on this board. Check in. It is slow. We just returned from our 7th trip to the Mayan Riviera and obviously the first time staying at the Grand Sunset Princess. I have read the other reviews and they accurately report the difficulties at the front desk. (Avoid Gina!) The check in is at 3 pm and they will not allow earlier check in. They have difficutlies determining which rooms are ready, clean and available and this causes delays. Overall, this is a big beautiful resort with great restaraunts, views, beach, rooms, and pools. I was at the resort from Dec 30 to Jan 6, 2008 with my girlfriend. When we first got there, we heard all sorts of bad stories, but I guess we were one of the lucky ones. It had only been open 3 weeks, so there were some kinks that they were still working out. We stayed in the Laguna Suites at the resort from Dec 30 to Jan 3. The room was large and luxurious-the outside shower is unique and fun. The pools are beautiful and not crowded, probably because the resort is not at full capacity yet. The beach is large with plenty of loungers. The restaurants are excellent-good food and friendly staff. I know there were problems with some rooms, but ours was fine.

We have just spent two wonderful weeks in the Grand riviera Princess. We have been treated like royalty and are very relaxed. 1. The staff at this resort are amazing. They are such lovely people and cannot do enough for you. They try to help even when at times we have seen hotel guests be extremely rude to them. 2. The room(a platinum suite) was fantastic. We have returned from our trip with the family and wanted to post our review while the experience is stil fresh. I'm sure there are many of you like ourselves who are curious about the property so here we go: Room: Jr Suite Two beds, couch, Minibar, TV, walk-in closet, balcony, huge bathroom with two sinks all finished in marble or granite counters. We were a group of 11 ..one single , three families with kids ranging from 8 till 16 yrs. Overall there are some fantastic positive points at the Grand sunset however the mosquitos are a problem if you come unprepared so prepare yourself. The hotel has not gotten the maid staff to do the job of upkeep or cleanliness yet , it is as if the staff has not been properly trained to be up to par with a five star rating, as far as keeping the room cleaned, fresh towels, shampoo fridge replenishing. We were at the GSP from December 21 to 28 - and we had a great time!! For the most part the hotel was ready to go, but you can tell that it is very new. It is an absolutely beautiful resort, exactly what you can expect from a 5 star property. We had no issues at check in or with our room when we got there. Everything in our room was fully functional and there were no problems.
