Gran Caribe Club Villa Tortuga

First time but will return at same hotel. For the money it was more than expected given the conditions and the difficulties of having goods to match up with our fast spoilled everyday life... So what if the food was not " 5 fourchettes"...The sky, the sea, the weather and specailly the kindness of natives made it just right !

We returned this morning after one week vaction here. We had an excellent new year's galla dinner,the menu included all you can eat lobster, beef wellington, baked salmon a host of salads to name a few, they were all prepared slightly different than you may be used to, but the effort is definately there! This hotel is trying to improve from it's previous management which has changed this past summer. 3 of us just came back from Villa Tortuga after a 2 weeks holiday: Dec 13-27. For the first week, there was a lot of wind and not much sun. We were actually wearing our spring jacket. The 2nd week was great. Weather wise, I think it is a little bit risky to expect nice weather at that time of the year for a solid 2 weeks. Hola guys, i am here right now, this is a nice quiet hotel with some shows at night but really not a party place this hotel is on the beach which is great and you can get a scooter rental or a taxi to get down the road for very cheap. the staff is great and very accomodating. i had a few problems with my room but everything got fixed up. First "Hi " to our "Calgary Sweeties "that we met at Villa Tortuga, We had a great week and were a little apprehensive before going after reading a few negative e-mails, but jumped on the plane anyway and we are not sorry. Service was just as good as any four star we stayed at, bedrooms were clean and bright. We needed to switch rooms after two days due to stairs but had no problem what so ever in doing so. we stayed at the villa Tortuga from April 5 - April 19th. We had an excellent time there! The people were all very friendly, the room was well cleaned, the resort was not over crowded. in all it was much better than some of the reviews here would lead you to believe. The food was okay, not gourmet but that isn't why you go to Cuba anyway. We did 10 dives with the fellows at the Scuba Cuba Barracuda center. It was incredible! My girlfriend and I have just come back from a spectacular vacation at the Tortuga, which we stayed at from April 15th to April 29th. We booked this vacation back in February online for several hundred dollars cheaper than any of the local travel agencies (i.e. LeGrows, Carlson Wagonlit) plus most of those travel agencies were trying to talk us out of considering this "property" and reminded us that Cuba is a "third world country" and that "a 3 star hotel in Cuba is not the same as a 3 star hotel in Canada." villa tortuga was a huge disappointment for our group. I have stayed at several 3 and a half star resorts and they were worlds better! It was a challenge to even get toilet paper or a decent meal. the staff didn't seem to care ( or understand us, in some cases) about us at all. Our maid was wonderful but beyond her no one made the slightest effort. I would never go back.

I went to Villa Tortuga with two girlfriends over March Break.The weather was FANTASTIC, the beach was AMAZING. We walked about 3km down the beach either way and we definitely had the best stretch of beach ? no shells, many chairs.The entertainment staff was very friendly and fun. They weren?t in your face forcing you to participate in every event, but would always invite you to join which was nice. We (group of 6) arrived at Villa Tortuga on March 7, 2004 for a week. We found that most of the reception staff was unable to speak English very well therefore it was difficult to communicate anything with them. A lot of the bar staff did not appear happy to be there. There was one buffet with 3 meals daily served and one a la carte restaurant with 2 meals daily served.
