Gran Caribe Club Karey

The hotel was clean (except for certain details)and the rooms have quick access to the beach. The food was terrible and the restaurant service worse. If you were late for any meal chances were that there would not be any plates or there would not be any glasses for water. One day I was late for breakfast; there were glasses but no juice. The buddy I went with described the food as follows "they have three types of meat, pork fat, chicken skin and beef organs". That should give you an Idea of the food. We visited the 3-star hotel with two kids and found exactly what we were looking for: two good clean rooms, only 20 meters from a (allmost empty) beach, clear swimming water with a lots of fish (even a dolfin), no loud animation team and only a few other tourists. The pool was relatively small but oke. The food was not the best you could find in an all-inclusive hotel, it was simple, but oke. Club Karey is located in the oldest resort area of Varadero. Resort is a set of former private villas one of the used to belong to Al Capone. Villas located right on beautiful beach which is clean and private. Nice site for snorkeling and water sports. You can spend hours watching fish and corals. Rooms are very nice for three stars resort, very large and clean. I have been to Cuba Last year in August, I was quite surprised when I arrived there as the facilities that were on the catalogue were not present. We had to change the room three times as we did not sleep for three nights due to a water pump that was behind our bedroom, this kept going on every two minutes creating a terrible noise day and night. I cannot say enough bad things about this place. I went March 5 -12, 2005. I checked in @ 4:00 a.m. on March 13, 2005, I asked the lobby barman for a pina colada, His response " WE RAN OUT ". They also RAN OUT of GIN, and the coffee will put hair on your chest (Yes ladies, you can't be further away from TIM HORTONS). We got to the room @ 5:00 a.m. there was a flood in the room that only took them 1 1/2 hours to clean up, only because they weren't sure they had a cleaning lady on staff. First time in Cuba and we really enjoyed our time there. The hotel personnel and the travel representative(Lucy-HOLASUN) were very friendly and helpful. The maid who cleaned the room was superb. Got a good view of the ocean and the beach because our room was right near the beach. The resort is spread over about a block and a half consisting of 2 storey houses and bungalows. First Cuban Hotel in 8 years that we will not be back to. We go to Cuba 2 or three times a year, get a good deal and go. We were very disappointed. The lack of concern by the staff just baffels us. Meals were pallatable but poor. No beer at the Lobby bar, Snack bar has Hamburgers or Hot dogs only, no fries. Steps up to everything, If you have trouble walking don't even think of going here no matter how cheap you get it. On the good side, all the rooms are seconds to the beach and the rooms are very well kept.

arrived at club karey on Febuary 13th, with my daughter and her 2 children. we understood that there was a childrens pool at this resort....No such thing, there was nothing for children, not even a swing set.. The bar runs out of beer and other mixed drinks every day, the restaurant runs out of the main dish every day....My advise to anyone thinking of going there... DONT......

I booked (as well as 2 girlfriends) for Club Kawama in February '04. Flight - great, bus ride - great, check in - horrible. We arrived at Kawama and instead of being checked in we were yelled at in spanish and shoved back on the bus after being told "we're taking you to another part of the resort." A 5 minute drive, (25 minute walk) later we are dropped off at Club Karey and forced off the bus. After waiting for the Conquest rep for 5 hours we are extremely unhappy and mostly drunk. We ended up at this resort because the resort we booked at ended up being overbooked. Do not waste your money by booking your vacation here. There are so many other nice resorts that you can stay at within the same price range. The rooms are small and crowded, the pool is a joke, the beach is very small, the staff isn't very friendly or helpful, the food is horrible and although there is supposed to be an animation staff I never saw them.
