Gran Bahia Principe Esmeralda

My husband & I were originally booked for the Bravaro but were upgraded to Esmeralda. We were unsure at first of the change, but am so happy that we were moved. After visiting our room the first time, we knew we were very fortunate to have been placed there. The views were spectacular & our room was right on the beach. The rooms, the grounds, the beach, the hotels, all are beautiful and spotless. The buffet leaves alot to be desired: too much chicken & cold cuts. The breakfast buffet is boring. The staff is willing but not well trained. The managers seemed angry. We were booked into the Bahia Principe Bavaro but when we got there we were told they were overbooked and that we were upgraded to the Esmeralda for free. I had done a bit of reading ahead of time on the Punta Cana chat sites and knew the Esmeralda was brand new and had only been open for about 20 days. Sweet! The Good Location location location. We were upgraded to Esmerelda (booked at Punta Cana) and are so grateful!! The hotel is absolutely immaculate. Everyone is cleaning, gardening, raking the beach and painting--not a single flaw. The people were wonderful! We stopped by Punta Cana on a couple occasions and were happy to return to our hotel. Esmeralda is much quieter with a lot less people. Our group of eight women arrived in the middle of the night to our reserved hotel - Gran Bahia Punta - to find we had been 'upgraded' to Esmeralda which is not yet even on the resort map. We were somewhat concerned but since it was all part of the adventure, we waited for the little trolley to fetch us and deliver us. We stayed at the GBP Esmeralda Nov. 15th - 22nd. We were upgraded from the Ambar. I was a little leary about being there when it had just opened on the day we arrived, but that quickly changed! This place is absolutley beautiful!! The rooms are spacious,bright and airy. The pool is lovely with a gradual entrance like you're going in the sea! The staff bend over backwards for the guests. Let me begin by stating the obvious: Beach = Beauty I arrived at the Gran Bahia Principe (where we originally booked) and was soon escorted over the Esmeralda. The selling point was that it was a 5 star, walking distance to the beach and instead of 3 ala carts we were given 6! Just came back from Esmeralda. It was great ! Rooms are beautiful, about the same size as Golden but nicer, plasma TV's, nice washroom with all the necessary luxury (big shower and whirlpool bath in each room). The esmeralda opened its doors two weeks ago. It also has its own lobby which makes everything much easier for clients to get satisfaction. We were lucky enough to be staying at the Esmeralda after being open only 1 week. We were a little nervous since we did not even know it existed until we attempted to check in at the Punta Cana and found they moved us somewhere else. This was our first experience at an all inclusive and we were unsure of the on line booking reliability. No need to worry! My wife and I were lucky enough to be amongst the first 20 couples upgraded to this Hotel when it opened in November 2009. We had a week of utter splendour, being spoilt rotten by the very capable staff. So take that into mind as you read this review. I believe that this is GBP going 5 star in reality, not just on paper.
