Finally a real vacation with time for yourself
OK, even my first impression was not good. The room that we were first put in had ants. HOWEVER, we were put into a new room that was perfectly fine. The rooms in general are clean, large and comfortable. There is a good sized refrigerator, stove, and some dishes, pots and pans, etc. Once we changed rooms, my whole attitude changed. Our first morning we had quite a good choice for breakfast and it was very good. Our nannies tracked us down and were a delight from the first. We had to hire two since we have a 7, 6, 3, and two 11... more
Franklin D Resort - Definitely a Family Resort
This is a great place for kids but definitely not for adults. When we drove up to the hotel, we did not have a good first impression. You drive up to this driveway that looked liked crap. The front desk is just a gazebo with a counter and desk. The woman that checked us in was friendly. She showed us a map and we thought," Wow this must be a big resort." ....Yeah right. The map must have been zoomed in 200% It took us about 10 minutes to walk around the whole place. The resort looks so cramed together. The beach is disgusting... more
BEST Family Vacation Ever!
Everything about FDR is Relaxing and Friendly. We traveled with our 13 yr old son and 11 yr old daughter. Food was excellant, Drinks superiour, Rooms Spaceious and Calming and STAFF umong the BEST we have ever encountered. Son enjoyed TEEN activities of Snorkling, Ocean Swimming (from the boat), Dance Night, Games in the game room, Windsurfing, Sailing, and just "hanging with friends". Daughter had the company of the nanny. Dianna was a wonderful and friendly "pal" who did crafts, tie-n-die, nail-painting, and even entered a dance... more
awesome time
We just returned yesterday and had an awesome trip. Though the porter at the airport obnoxiously demanded $1.00 per bag and we waited an hour for the bus to leave, after one night's good sleep in our beautifully air conditioned room, the vacation really took off. Our sweet nanny won over our baby and 4 yr. old right away. Words cannot quite describe how it was to have such a caring and helpful person in our lives for one week and then have to say good bye. I spoke to other guests who felt the same way about their nanny. You really do... more
Wonderful for families
As a single mom of a then 2 yr old, i needed some time for myself. The travel agent recommended FDR because of the nanny and children activities. That was 2 years ago and I feel in love with this place. Ever since then I've gone every year. I do agree that the rooms need a "face-lift", but other then that I recommend this resort to anyone with kids. My daughter knows everyone there by first names and though she's only 4 she askes me every year if it's time to go to Jamaica :)
Caveat emptor
What a nightmare. My family and I just returned from FDR resort after I came down with the worst case of food poisoning. I suffered from days of nausea, fever, then vomiting, profuse diarrhea and dehydration. In order to board the plane home I received 3 liters of IV fluid. My wife and I read a numerous reviews before booking at FDR. Most people liked the resort and we knew what to expect - we were not going to the Ritz; the food would be ok; the place small; the beach great for children and not for adults; the nannies fabulous;... more
The Best Place we could have chosen for our family
After much research we chose this resort mainly because of the nanny service and the great reviews we read. We were not disappointed. We went with our 3 year old and 16 month old sons. The bus trip from 'hell' as some people put it, was really not that bad even with 2 little ones. The vans are spacious and airconditioned. Our boys were pretty wired and restless on the flights so by the time we got on the bus, they were exhausted and the hum of the van put them to sleep. Sit at the back and you won't see what's going on in the traffic. The... more
It grows on you
First impression was not impressive. However, this resort certainly grew on us. The resort needs an overhaul-rooms are nothing special-very spacious. We were able to overlook this after a day or so. We traveled with another family with 2 children (4 and 2) and our three children (3.5, 2 and 5 months. This resort was perfect for us. The nanny's were fabulous. Evelyn and Anthea were wonderful!!! The adults were actually able to have some adult time-time to read, relax etc.....The nannys really did their job. We felt comfortable leaving our... more
We have a 8 mo and 3 year old, FDR is best
On the 5th day of our 7 day holiday, my 3 year old son was so tired, he took up sucking his thumb again. Pool, water slide, tie die, mock wedding to his new friend from Mass., basketball, play room, face painting, beach, hermit crab races, birthday party on the beach. He was one wupped little boy. There were times when he was with the nanny, and would turn his head as he passed us on the grounds so we he didn't have to talk to us. Some of the little things: Romeo (staff) taking my son to go play basketball so I could eat my breakfast in... more
Ideal family get-away
The FDR is the place to be to let your kids run free! Our three children, ages 3,5, and 7 were ecstatic at FDR. They made friends from all over the globe and were never in need of anything; our 5 yr old just loved being able to order food from the grill all by himself! Yes, the resort is older, but it is quaint; if you are pretentious, go elsewhere; there is no reason to "show-off" here. If your only desire is to see your kids have the time of their lives (and indirectly bring a smile to you!), then... more
