Horrible
This hotel is the really one of the worst in Negril. I imagine the only reason some people like it is because the beach outside of it is lovely- but really, the rooms are not clean, the staff is rude, the air conditioner does not work, it is small and ugly and the bathroom was filthy. When we asked to check out early after just one night (I cried) the owner charged us for the whoile stay. (planned 6 nights) We expected to be charged for another day -but the whole charge was ridiculous. I emailed him directly and he was not only... more

Some guests at any hotel will like it better than others and honest word-of-mouth or honest reviews are helpful to all. However dishonest reviews, apart from giving satisfaction to the authors, do not benefit anyone, certainly not other travellers. The author[ess] of the 'review' in question DID NOT STAY here in September 2006 or anytime thereabouts, perhaps never. David Sykes received no email from this person, and consequently did not reply and therefore was not unrelenting or rude. We do not know who wrote it. The pronoun "we" suggests it was not a single person, yet most of the 'review' mentions "I". The whole thing appears to be a fake. Finally, Firefly may be the only hotel in Jamaica to give a written "Love Firefly or Your Money Back" guarantee on their website. Check it out on their Special Offers page.

Just perfect!
We wanted to be on the centre of the seven mile beach. Stay at a nice hotel with nice service minded people - we had it all, perfect stay. Very nice helpful people on the hotel. Sincere and caring about their guests. Great beach and close to all the nice restaurants, bars etc. WE WILL GO BACK TO FIREFLY - Soon!!!
An ideal holiday
My husband, two young sons, and I spent a wonderful week at Firefly in August. We had breakfast at the beach bar -great pancakes and free coffee and enjoyed a very relaxed atmosphere there. Days were spent mainly on the beach and the boys loved playing in the garden. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff had made changes to accommodate the boys. The gardener Oswald was an instant hit with the children and he always took the time to talk to them and show them interesting things. In fact, we found all the staff to be polite and... more
Careful! The internet can be deceiving!!
Be careful what you look for, you may not get it. FIREFLY on Negril Beach sounded delightful, looked delightful from it's website...we like clothing optional, but didn't want Hedonism or any of the other packaged, processed resorts. We like to make our own way, like we do in the Greek Islands, coast of Turkey, Hawaii. I mention these to not so subtley indicate we ARE experienced travellers. But carefree, independent travel is NOT a good idea in Negril, as Firefly is a good example. Hottub hardly working, clothing optional beach means NO... more
Management response from worldroamerII

I would like to reply to the review dated August 3rd 2005. While each is entitled to state his opinion, reviews should not be deliberately misleading. I was away from Jamaica in August 2005 and when I saw the review last week, it just did not sound like Firefly. After quite a bit of searching it has become clear that the guests were at Firefly in 2003. It seems odd that they waited 2 years before writing. Our beach is clothing optional and many naturist guests visit us year after year without any problems. However, for one weekend each August there are large numbers of visitors from other parts of Jamaica who may not be used to seeing naked persons on the beach. The complaint about security seems unreal - there has never been a derelict place next door to Firefly in the 25 years we have been in business and it is the police who provide security on the beach. Our staff could hardly have asked our guests if our security guard helped them, as he would never be next door. The security guard does, of course, report to the live-in supervisor, but the insinuation in the review is totally unfair. Further, it is not his duty to be highly visible, but to be as insconpicuous as possible while doing his job. It is untrue that the reviewer was overcharged, as is implied. We charged 50% deposit plus 50% balance, hence two charges. $95 a night for two persons with accommodation right on the beach, including a small kitchen, nice veranda &c. - you don't get that at Beaches or Couples, even if you pay $100's more. I believe that most people love Negril because it is good to move around, walking miles on the beach where they can meet people from almost everywhere, can buy almost anything small and be glad that they are not locked in a 'guarded enclave.' I can assure everyone that there is no animosity whatever towards American individuals in Negril. At Firefly we always try to provide our guests with a high standard of care, excellent cleanliness and a unique experience shown fairly on our website.

Paradise
Whether you like to go nude or "prude" no one cares and/or discriminates here. You can do whatever you want to do, no one will question or criticize you for it. The service and staff are # 1 every one is really, really friendly, corteous and helpful. I could not ask for better service. Everthing was clean and kept up to condition. Beatiful 7 miles beach, crystal clear water and white sands everywhere.
falling short
After reading nothing but spectacular reviews of Firefly and the great service and wonderful staff I had my expectations set high as I looked forward to our first visit to this place. The reviews I have read were rather flattering and I am not sure what those writers were use to but this place has more than a few shortcomings . Ill list the ones that bothered me the most as the rest are not worth mentioning. We stayed in unit #17 on the 3rd floor of the penthouse this room has a full kitchen including a microwave and coffee maker The problem... more
Firefly- The Best Place on the Beach
I loved Firefly. I was there for 10 days in December and it wasn't nearly long enough. The gardens are beautiful, everyone who works there is very friendly and the rooms could not be closer to the beach! Every morning I woke up with a cup of delicious Jamaican coffee at Firefly's beach bar, then I spent the rest of the day relaxing on the beach with a good book unitl it was time to watch the spectacular sunset.I also walked along the beach at checked out other resorts, but decided that Firefly is the only place for me.
Easy going
The Firefly is a cool little place. There is a path from the cottages right to the beach. If you don't want to be bothered and do your own thing in Jamaica, this is the place to go. We met quite a few hippies there and some nudists, definately a diverse crowd. They even supplied incense in the cottages. The cleaning lady came every day and even washed our dishes. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom cottage and went with some friends. Our cottage had a stove, refrigerator, dishes, etc. We brought a blender with us--that was a good idea, since there... more
President's Day at Firefly
This was our first trip to the Caribbean. We were celebrating George's 65th (Medicare eligible) birthday and President's Day. After much research we selected Firefly Cottages. We couldn't have been more pleased. When we returned home we were not too surprised to find that it was listed in a Sunday Washington Post Travel Section feature article on the Caribbean as a recommended place to stay in Negril, Jamaica. After a short non-stop champagne flight on Air Jamaica from BWI Airport in Maryland we arrived at Montego Bay and waited in... more
Great stay at Firefly
We had a great time at Firefly. It was our first time to Negril and we wanted to be in the middle of the 7 mile beach. Firefly's beach is clothing optional, which is rare since it is a small place and not an huge AI. Their beach is very small, but again, it is in the middle of the famous 7 mile beach so there is plenty of beach to go around. Great restuarants nearby on the beach, nice folks running the place. Very nice vibe, we have already booked our 2nd trip.
