Submitted By: Mrs J SadleyThe resort of Santo Tomas is perfect for a family, peaceful day and night but also has plenty of entertainment in hotels if you fancy it.
The restaurants cater well for children providing highchairs, children’s menus, and some with play areas. The beach is lovely with shallow waters and certainly didn't get crowded at this time of the year. The Lord Nelson Apts provided a good standard of accommodation and facilities.
It was disappointing that despite having the same live entertainment as other hotels, the Lord Nelson failed to attract people. They did nothing to advertise the shows outside of the hotel and this meant that there was no atmosphere, sometimes only 20 people were watching. No effort was made for the mini disco and one evening my 3 year old and one other child were the only ones there, despite the apartments having many more children as guests.
There was one very disappointing incident and upsetting for the children. We hired a car for a few days and one morning we had popped into Citudella for a couple of hours. On our return to the apartment we found that the beach stuff we had left outside our apartment door has all missing. We were in a quiet part of the complex on an end with no one having to pass our door to get to their rooms.
We lost a toddler boat and baby play seat with sunshade (both bought with us from Greece on a previous holiday) all the buckets, spades and beach toys we had bought the children, balls, armbands. Reception were not particularly interested but what I found most sad was that these were clearly children’s toys and yet people were still prepared to help themselves to things in a quiet fairly upmarket resort such as Santo Tomas.
We had only left them outside as they took up quite a lot of space inside given the highchair etc already in there and we had just forgotten to pop them in when we went out. So be warned and make sure you lock your stuff away in the apartments even for a few hours.
For those people who have been before and intend to return to the Lord Nelson you will be disappointed. We were advised by the reception manager that next year the Italian owners are making it Italian's only and you will not be able to book it through any UK tour operator. This may reflect the lack of effort made for the British holidaymakers there now.
We shall be returning to Santo Tomas but obviously to alternative accommodation.

Submitted By: Mrs J LayThe Lord Nelson Apartments in themselves are very clean and have everything you need for a self catering holiday (even a cork screw), the cleaners came in almost every day, changed the beds and generally cleaned and mopped so the place always looked fresh and clean.
The daytime activities were just right, not too many and you were never forced to do anything. The waterpolo is a scream - I spent more time laughing than playing. In the evening there was a mini disco for the younger children that lasted approx 20 mins (we were only there once for that), then it's onto bingo and a show. All shows were excellent. Everything then stopped at 11.30 which meant no grumpy children the next day, perfect.
We did hear before we left that the apartments were Italian owned but run by the Spanish BUT all that is to change. All rooms will have air-con and the entertainments area is to be revamped and the apartments are to be run by the Italian Owners. I don't know whether this is a good or bad thing that's something you would have to decide for yourselves.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday which was made very special by the people we met and would definitely return in the near future.

Submitted By: Mr A CooperThis time we ate most meals in the hotel restaurant which was very good value for money. The apartments are right next to the beach and is an excellent place for a quiet relaxing holiday. We will be going again in 2008.

Submitted By: Mrs M McgeeStaff were helpful the lady rep Christina was very helpful, even though we did not book through her company.
The resort was lovely and the walk along the sea front was great the local bus to Mahon was good and I recommend you stock up with meat or fish at the market.
There is a spar supermarket next to it, the supermarkets at Santo Thomas are ok but is limited to what you can buy.
We would go there again.

Submitted By: Mr A CooperWe ate in the buffet restaurant and found the price reasonable and the food excellent.
My wife, myself and 2 children are returning in June 2007 and will be using the restaurant a lot more due to the local supermarket sometimes working out more expensive.
Santa Thomas is quiet and is perfect for family's that just need a relaxing holiday.

Submitted By: Mr L TurnbullEverything in the hotel and resort was so clean, no rubbish in sight.
The staff were so friendly and all spoke good English. Nearly every room has a sea view, and the beaches are lush. The sea is the same colour as the Caribbean Sea.
The resort of Santo Tomas was very quiet; I would say it was best for couples; however all the hotels have great kids clubs.
I would go back again in a flash. Don’t listen to any bad reports of this hotel, it is super - enjoy!

Submitted By: Mr P GarforthNot a great deal to do in Santa Tomas which is the reason we booked it, we had two teenage daughters with us who really enjoyed it and would go back tomorrow.
The entertainment in apartments was exceptional, thank you Naomi. Overall a great resort, excellent apartments, excellent staff. Fantastic holiday.

Submitted By: Not SpecifiedReception on arrival and during stay, cleanliness of apartments, bar, dining room and public areas, swimming pool very good.
Food very good, quantity (buffet) and choice very good but repetitive.
ALL staff very polite, helpful, friendly and good natured despite some arrogant/ignorant customers of different nationalities.
Resort is generally quiet apart from bad behaviour of a small minority of 8 - 15 year old children. This was sorted out quickly.
Airtours Rep (Christianne) very efficient.
If you want to go out and about a lot a car is essential.
" Santo Tomas is a terrific holiday... "
Submitted By: Mr I. L CookOur holiday for a family of 6 was spoiled because 90% or more of the hotel guests were members of an Italian holiday club. The entire entertainment programme was in Italian and all food was Italian. The hotel administration catered for them, not for us.
As for the accommodation, a 'triple' room with 3 single beds and the usual furniture left so little circulation space we had to take it in turns to dress. Hotel Lord Nelson sounds British but it isn't. Try one of the other hotels at Santo Tomas instead.

The hotel is right on the beach and there is a pedestrian walkway that runs between the hotels and the beach ideal for those late night walks with the children, there are very few bars in Santo Tomas so with no late night drinking another plus point for an ideal family holiday, car hire is available just across the road from the hotel, we hired a soft top Suzuki what a fantastic way to view the island.

The only down point is the supermarket which being the only food shop in Santo Tomas is fairly expensive, hire a car and find a spa shop and stock up on essentials The Lord Nelson hotel and Santo Tomas is together the ideal holiday for families, we will definitely be returning in the near future.
The resort is short in entertainment only 2 bars make an effort. One shows Sky Sports all times the other is at the beach and has live groups 2 nights a week. Drinks are expensive at both. You have been warned.
