Great hotel when the snow is good, literally ski to and from the doors.
I have stayed in this hotel several times which I guess says a lot, but it is my second choice for whistler, why...
When the snow is perfect on both mountains the Chateau is great but when its not I prefer to stay in whistler village because of the lift system. By staying in the village the choice is there for you to choose each morning. Take the lift to the left for Blackcombe Mountain, where the Chateau resides at the base, or the lift to the right to Whistler Mountain.
Skiing Whistler Mountain is really fantastic, Blackcombe Mountain is good. Stay at the Chateau and you tend to ski Blackcombe predominantly because it’s outside the door. If the snow’s not good you need to walk across to whistler which although not far, probably 10 minutes on the flat, it is a pain.
Whatever you take from my comments do visit Whistler, it’s fantastic; I love late season (staying in village a must in late season) when skiing in tee shirts is a regular occurrence and shorts in the afternoon sitting outside in the sun at the base of the mountain.
The hotel is good, really good, comfortable rooms with great beds, dinning is good with two in hotel choices plus room service and a great lounge area / bar. Two things make this hotel stand out for me. Firstly just how easy it is to get from your room out onto the slopes, and secondly the spa. Don’t stay in the Chateau without trying a few of the numerous massage options, fantastic.
Only downside to the Chateau is that its slightly pretentious, a lot of 'pretty people' or people who think they are, stay there and like to be seen in the latest ski fashions and fur coats. My choice for staying in the village is The Westin, great hotel without any fuss and fantastic location.
Have fun, I have and will again.
