Casitas Royale

5th anniversary--had previously stayed at the Excellence and Royal Cancun past 2 years so this is partly compared to those stays. Those 2 hotels were league's above this one. Seems like management was simply incompetent. They weed wacked with gas mowers and gas blowers just feet from where people were sunbathing --this is in the middle of the day for about 4 hours--people had grass stuck to them and couldn't carry a conversation or barely read a book within two blocks of this commotion. After relying on tripadvisor for advice I committed myself to writing a review upon our return. We stayed at the El Dorado Royale Casitas Feb 21-28th 2010 and loved it. First off, there are different levels of service available, if you expect first class then book the Casitas. If you want to save a little money you can book a regular room, we met some people staying in regular and spent alot of time with them. We stayed in the Casitas section for a week in February, and it was just wonderful! We loved our room, with it's private swimming pool and outdoor shower. The concierge staff made all our dinner reservations for us and checked every day to see if there was anything we wanted/needed (one day, I had a sunbrun, and Ana went over to the spa and brought back aloe gel.) First off their interior shuttle service is a far cry from every other resort I ever stayed at. they shuttle every 20 mins and we were at the far end of the resort in the casitas it was a pain. We were honeymooners and were supposed to get a Bottle of champagne in our room as part of there package, we never got it, also the dinner on the beach was a limited menu same as the resterants nothing special they normally charge $150.00 for the meal, what you are paying for is the waiter to bring it to you, if you wanted lobster it was $75.00 more.... more

UPON ARRIVAL: There were eight of us that planned this trip four months in advance - all in the Casitas. The first two to arrive were booked in the Casitas. When my husband and I arrived, we were told we were not booked in the Casitas but for $1060 more, they could accomodate us. We paid it after much arguing because we didn't want to be the only couple not staying with the rest of our group. Third Christmas to New Year's for us at a Karisma/Exotic resort. First El Dorado Seaside Suites, then Maroma, now Casitas Royale. Casitsas largest of the 3 when you include "regular" El Dorado. Check In: As Exotic members we checked in with Exotic Casita Desk. We thought it was OK until we saw a check in at the El Dorado Casitas Check In which was more thorogh with information and care. Exotic made reservations for us in a restaurant that was closed. Room: We were in an Individual Casita. Very nice, not sure if worth the upgrade... more
