Me and my friend grabbed this holiday...

Me and my friend grabbed this holiday 2 days before departure, had never been here before so thought we would try it. We cannot fault the apartment at all, very spacious and clean, all we could want. Staff were all very friendly, apart from the night man, he gave us the creeps, touching us as we went to collect our key from a night out. But generally the rest of them were lovely. We didn't stay for any of the entertainment, but the families all seemed to enjoy it. Only managed to get round the pool once, on the first day, but the beach is only 2mins away. I would probably go here again, but with children, not really a place for 2 females wanting a relaxing time. Although the nightlife in the centre is great, stays open till at least 4am, and only a 5min stroll away.

Me, my Mum and my Dad spent a week in...

Me, my Mum and my Dad spent a week in Oro Playa in August. Like so many other people we had read some dubious reviews about the apartments but found these to be completely unfounded.
It is a basic 2 star hotel. There are a few cracks here and there in the rooms, mostly in the bathroom but nothing too much. The facilities are basic but enough for a self catering holiday. There are all the usual appliances including a microwave, toaster, kettle, TV and even a small built-in intercom that plays music. The balcony is a bit small and it is a struggle to seat three or four people comfortably. Apart from that, the room was clean and tidied regularly by the very good cleaning staff.
The apartments are in a good spot with the beach and restaurants a couple of minutes walk away. There is a supermarket in the apartments which has quite a lot but if you need more there are another two or three within a minutes walk.
The Oro Playa has a nice pool which is quite big but as it is a family orientated complex there are times during the day when it is packed with kids so a peaceful swim isn't always available. Again the pool is also kept clean with a local pool guy cleaning the filters every morning. One problem we did have with the pool area was the allocation of sunbeds. They are stacked and locked every night and everyone has to queue up from about 9am onwards for them to be unlocked at 9.30am - there isn't exactly a scramble but it is first come first serve and if you don't venture down early you will probably have to be content with a day at the beach. There are a few ants at poolside but you get this in every warm climate and reports that there are swarms of them and they are a problem are just false.
There is entertainment every day for kids and adults and the guys and girls that did all of this were superb. There was also the usual nightly entertainment with different acts, the best of which being the Kenian Boys who have to be seen to be believed! The rest of the staff we found to be polite and really helpful. There is also a TV room so for all the men you won't miss any big football matches.
We can't really comment on the food as we bought stuff from the supermarket for breakfast and lunch and ate out at the restaurants at night. There are plenty of restaurants close by and even more along the beach front and into the town square. The best ones we went to were Tex Mex, Mojito and the chinese restaurant near the marina.
Overall, the resort is beautiful and really well equipped for a nice relaxing holiday. The Oro Playa is a basic 2 star complex but is great value for money and supplies everything you really need. Don't listen to the negative reports as these are more than likely from grumpy people who are hard to please. The Oro Playa has great staff with great facilities and is in a great situation close to the beach, shops and restaurants. We would highly recommend the Oro Playa and if you are looking for a place that is relatively cheap and located in a beautiful resort then this is the place for you.

My husband and I have just come back...

Aug 2007, Mrs D Bray

My husband and I have just come back from the Oro Playa Apts and must admit, I was a bit worried having read iffy reviews before we went. How wrong could I be!
Our apartment was lovely, having air conditioning (which you control), a combi oven/microwave type thing, toaster, TV, piped music were all extras which we haven't had in other apartments before.
Yes, there were a few cracks here and there but everything was clean, the cleaners did a good job and towels and bedding were replaced regularly (even on the day before we left!), toilet rolls were replaced etc. Saw a few ants on the balcony but that was it. We were on the top floor and had a tree in front of us - didn't spoil anything, was quite nice having the little birds tweeting away next to you! And still got some sunlight so no problem there.
Staff we came into contact with were very friendly and very helpful.
Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat anything there. Supermarket on site which is very handy and stocks allsorts. Entertainment is a bit cringy but then again, that’s what most apartment/hotel entertainment is like!
We sometimes caught the tail end of it (having gone out each night) but if finished around 11.30/midnight. Admittedly there were usually people still sitting around in the bar area after that, but everyone is meant to vacate the area by 1am. I agree that's not great if you're trying to get to sleep (although didn’t actually bother us - couldn’t hear it!) but then again that’s the type of thing you expect on holiday as everyone's out having a good time etc.
Sunbeds were hysterical - not allowed to take them until 9.30am but people would actually queue up from 8.15am! And then once they got them, they would drape their towels across them and then disappear back to their rooms!! Personally if I worked there, I'd throw their towels on the floor as there's apparently no reserving the sunbeds!! But that’s just me ...
All in all I'd say these apartments are great, they delivered more than I expected, the position of them are brilliant (beach literally across the road) and everything else is to hand - much better than some of the other apartments which seem to be slap bang in the middle of the resort above shops and bars etc.
I'd definitely go back here. I know everyone has their own opinion but I think sometimes people just expect too much - a holiday apartment isn’t meant to offer luxurious surroundings (unless you pay for it), you're not going to get a full oven/cooker (I always thought most people went out for food in any case) and you're not going to get every single Sky channel. If this is what you're after, stay home!

I am appalled at reading some of the reviews posted here! I travelled with my mother aged 75 and children aged 6 and 10 for the second time to the Oro Playa this year. We enjoyed our holiday so much we have already booked again for next year. I agree that the place does need a bit of a facelift but what do you expect for the money you pay?
To stay anywhere else in Puerto Pollensa which has a higher star rating costs far more. The facilities were basic but clean. The area is super and you could not wish for more. The apartments do have ants in them but when we spoke to the receptionist they admitted this was a problem and sent a maid round within 10 minutes to thoroughly clean and spray with insecticide.
Yes, the entertainment varied from poor to fantastic - but this is personal choice. In our opinion the Elvis impersonator was the poorest act of the week. My children were encouraged to join in the entertainment and games led by the fantastic hotel entertainment team and made many friends.
As for the loud music, what do people expect in a family hotel? The music was switched off at 11pm each evening and lights off at 11.30pm every night. One person requested that the music was turned down and it was. I just hope that we have a positive experience again next year and don't feel a need to join in with those people who have written the awful reviews above!

Aug 2007, Mr CD Farley

We have just come back from a one-week stay at the Ora Playa, self catering and had the perfect holiday. We stayed there 8 years ago, but the place is even better now.
Staff were very friendly, helpful, the two guys doing the activities were great with the kids. Entertainment was ok, but with such a beautiful area, with all the restaurants and walks, by the time you get back the apartments, the entertainment is fine for the rest of the night.
Rooms were cleaned almost every day with clean towels provided every other day. The pool area is great for sunbathing and dipping in to cool off.
No fighting over sun beds, that are unchained at 9.30am; there were plenty for everyone. Did not see one ant. Bathrooms are showing their age as is some of the outside boarding and roof rain shelters, but so what.
The apartments were really comfortable and air con. Great. I cannot believe some of the other reviews above, it’s a shame if that was their experience as everyone there when we were there, loved the place and want to go back, as we will next year.
What a great place and town for a relaxing holiday.

It was the second time I had been to Mallorca and I was taking my daughter on her first holiday abroad, I wanted a nice clean hotel which didn't accommodate to many people and also had a nice friendly environment, the Oro Playa exceeded our requirements.
On arrival we were pleasantly welcomed by the hotel staff that were very well mannered and polite, the apts were clean and well kept, the complex was tidy and maintained to a high standard , although I’d heard ants were a problem in the apts , this proved not to be true on our visit.
Entertainment at the resort was generally good ,both for adults and children ,the on-site entertainers were very good! ( Nemo ,Erika, and Freda had me in stitches most of the day ) the activities were varied throughout the day to cater for all.
The resort was very close to the beach and shops, nightlife is there, but you have to look for it!
There is a good restaurant called "restaurant coral" on the corner of a side street to the left of the complex entrance (would definitely recommend the lamb shank ).
On the down side to the complex there was only one fault , this was that any lilos balls etc had to be put in your balcony at night, as I witnessed the pool accessories being destroyed with a Stanley knife early one morning.
Overall we had a brilliant time and would definitely return again.

Have just returned from a week at the...

Jul 2007, Ms D Brooks

Have just returned from a week at the Oro Playa apartments in Puerto Pollensa. We had been a bit apprehensive about the Oro Playa after reading some of the reviews on-line, but thankfully we had nothing to worry about!
The apartment was fairly basic and the whole place could do with a lick of paint, but apart from that it was clean (towels replaced almost every day), had a new looking electric kettle and toaster plus it had air conditioning (blissful!). We saw a couple of ants in the apartment, but they weren't a problem as we washed up and cleaned surfaces as we went along.
The apartments are in a great location - the beach is about 100m away and there are dozens of places to eat within a few minutes walk. The pool area gets a bit crowded and there don't seem to be enough sunbeds - or perhaps there would be if people didn't reserve them with beach towels then disappear for hours on end! There were instructions telling people not to reserve sunbeds or towels would be removed, but I saw no evidence of this. Perhaps I should have been brave enough to move someone else's towel myself!
I think these apartments make an ideal base for families. There is plenty for children to do - as well as the pool, there are pool tables, table tennis, computers plus the entertainer organises games and other activities throughout the day. There is a supermarket on site and a snack bar by the pool (prices looked cheap compared to elsewhere in Puerto Pollensa). All the staff were friendly and helpful.

There was only one thing wrong with...

There was only one thing wrong with the Oro Playa apartments and that was eveything.
The food ... greasy
The staff ....90% ignorant and unhelpful with the exception of the bar staff and kiddies organisers.
The place.... watch your feet on those dodgy paving stones located around the pool area and the apartments are too small and unequipped to even contemplate cooking in ... in short you need to leave the hotel if want anything.
Bring a travel iron - its €14 a week to rent one at reception! Crazy
Also be aware that MyTravel, Panorama etc only give you six nights (instead of the seven it says on your tickets) if you are travelling by night to get there ... in other words me and mine where left without a room or indeed a courtesy room for over twelve hours ... a nightmare (ps. this is pitched as an extra night FREE by your friendly local travel agent)
I will return to puerto Pollensa because it is beautiful ...but not to Oro Playa.
When an Elvis impersonator/comedian is the only good thing in a hotel - you know you got it wrong!

Jun 2007, Miss B Hamill

My sister and I stayed at the Oro Playa for two weeks last summer and we had an incredible holiday.
Puerto Pollensa is beautiful. Lovely beach, nice restaurants and very relaxing. We booked the apartment with Direct Holiday and got it for a brilliant price. Also the apartment had a separate bedroom and living room which meant we had lot of space and didn't have to pay any room supplements.
All that apartments are the same so it is a great place if only two people are going or people with small children.
The pool was fantastic although you did have to get up at the crack of dawn to secure a sun bed. This was not ideal but OK.
There is a great little shop and bakery just across the road and if you are going to pick up breakfast just bring a few towels and get your sun beds early. There are lots of grassy areas where you can lie if you don't get a sun bed.
The beach was no more than a minute away and the centre of town about 5 minutes.
The entertainment wasn't great but it is a nice area for a drink and once you have been there for a few nights you might even join in the dancing at the end - Cha Cha slide starts to grow on you.
The entertainment goes on till about 12 and the people sit around for much longer but after all you are on your holidays. I think that is a much better option than sitting around bored.
We recommended it to my brother and his girlfriend who are just back. They also had a great time and thought for the money, the apartments were well worth it.
I will be seeking out Oro Playa the next time I go Puerto Pollensa.

We have stayed at these apartments...

Jun 2007, Mrs N D Murphy

We have stayed at these apartments twice before. They were spotless and had everything we needed.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. My husband speaks a little Spanish and the staff had plenty of time to help him out with his language.
The apartments are in a brilliant spot, just two minutes from the beach. There are so many restaurants, sunbeds was great. We went to Cala st Vincent for the day, this was lovely.
Puerto Pollensa is lovely; it’s nice and flat, beaches great, shopping and restaurants, all great. We have been here seven times and are looking forward to returning again this September.

Jun 2007, Mrs W Geach

We are family of four; our children age 13 and 16. Had a great holiday and a fabulous stay at Ora Playa.
Yes there were ants but when we told the staff they were sprayed and stayed away for a week.
We had a ten day stay and we all had a fun time. The staff made sure all the families joined in each day’s events if they wanted to.
Our children made many friends their and even cried when we left. Location was a dream. One minute and you were on the beach or close to a walk on the sea front.
Room was cleaned most days and towels changed daily. Was very worried at previous comments I had read but we say now that it was one of our best holidays ever.

May 2007, Mrs S Mason

Just back from a great holiday at the Oro Playa. We were very concerned regarding the previous reviews but were pleasantly surprised.
The apartments are basic but all you need. Very clean, the maid was in daily and sheets and towels were changed every second day.
No ants to be seen!!
Although there is no life guard there are signs everywhere saying keep an eye on your kids, fair enough I think!!
The staff could not be more helpful and are just great with little ones.
There is noise at night but it does stop at about 11.30pm and to be quite honest most adults and kids are still dancing!!
Don't be put off, the kids will have a ball and if they are happy we all are!
