Nice value
Good size comfortable room with cold A/C (w/ remote). Hotel is new so everything is clean. Inside garden area is quaint with some really outstanding large specimens. Location is close to the better restaurants & bars on 5th Ave and side streets. 10-15 minute walk to Mamitas. Staff is friendly and attentive. Downside: Little closet space and no drawers so you pretty much have to leave your clothes in the suitcase. We pack light so not a big deal. This property is on west side of 10th Ave, which is one of the busiest N-S streets in... more
Great Place to Stay, would stay again.
I stayed at this hotel in March 2007 and loved it. I was reluctant to stay there because of bad write-up from a guy that stated "don't bother". This man's information is biast due to an error he made when booking on line, his mistake. The hotel has set prices posted on line, and in the lobby. I discussed this with the hotel managment in detail when I arrived in Playa Del Carmen, and chose to stay at this hotel. The rooms are fantastic, done in a Greek Mediterranian Style Theme with a beautiful garden/breakfast nook (self serve with... more
Highly Recommend
My wife & I only stayed one night but we enjoyed meeting the folks there and the room very nice. The staff made us very comfortable, they're great people. If you want small & quiet this is the place. It's only a short walk to everything including the beach. A short walk to the north of the hotel area the beach gets less populated, and to south a few kilometers there is a beautiful beach.
Good Choice
Aqualuna is a nice new hotel on 10th Avenue, close enough to the action but a little quieter so you can actually get a good night's sleep. The rooms are small but clean, comfortable and functional. The high speed internet works well. The included breakfast across the street is good, for a nominal fee you can add additional side dishes but that is not really necessary. You have free access to a beach club three blocks away with nice beach chairs and waiters that will bring you $5 pina coladas while you sun yourself. The staff is friendly and... more
Don't bother
From our experience we would say, don´t bother with Aqua Luna hotel. We arrived in Playa del Carmen and checked into the first hotel we could find, it was a good price, clean, had a small pool etc. We said if we found something worth moving, we would the next day. We found Aqua Luna and from the outside it looked nice, the lady at reception, although nice, knew nothing and gave us false promise after false promise. To cut a along story short we booked and paid for 3 nights up front with her. She promised us a promotion deal, beach club... more
Great Service
We will echo the excellent service comments from our fellow travelers. My wife and I have been going to Playa for many years and have yet to find the perfect spot. The staff is excellent and the rooms new and spotlessly clean, but the cost, while reasonable, is a little too expensive given the location and the pricing at similar properties. The breakfast (included) at a nearby restaurant is very good and convenient. We also received some excellent restaurant recommendations from the staff. The included beach club is in a good,... more
An Oasis on 10th Ave!!
This hotel is all that you could hope for by staying off 5th ave and the beach. Unrelentingly good service, spotlessly clean accommodations, easy access to the pedestrian and shops areas. Just spent 5 nights here on business, all of the staff were extremely accommodating, felt like a home away from home. I had internet access in my room which was a must. I could work and be in touch with my family at the same time. Couldn´t imagine a better hotel experience in Playa.
The truth: Definately too expensive
The best thing the Aqualuna has to offer is that it is new. The hotel's own description is extremely optimistic. The hotel is centrally located on 10th Avenue crossing with North 8th street, about 250 meters from the beach. The 'garden' is really the front patio of the hotel, seperated by only a wall from the busy 10th Avenue. What really put me off are the room rates. There are many nicer and quieter hotels within a short walk between 10th and 20th Avenue and even on the famous 5th Avenue offering rooms just as nice or nicer at prices up to... more
Management response from A TripAdvisor Member

Thank you Tripadvisor member for your review! As the Aqualuna´s manager I need also to tell the truth to all those reading these reviews and using them as help to make a decision. Our hotel is not located on the crossing with 8th street, as mentioned in your review, it is located on the crossing of 10th Ave. & 14th street north. Are you sure it was our hotel?? As for the rates, everybody can choose what to pay, no doubt there are cheaper hotels, Playa´s got plenty of hotel`s options for every budget and we charge what we think is correct for what we offer. If you have not stayed with us before, let me invite you to experience Aqualuna first before posting a review, and know where our hotel is located!! and services which are more than a delicious breakfast. Thank you to all the guests for taking the time to post so nice reviews on our hotel. Aqualuna Hotel Manager

I loved Aqualuna, I wish I came back soon
lovely, clean, and stylish rooms. My stay at Aqualuna was very comfortable and pleasant thanks to the excellent service from the friendly staff. I found very convenient that breakfast and the beach club are included in the rate. They just opened less than a month ago, so we had to go across the street for breakfast, not a bother at all because they served us a very good meal. I was told they will have a bar at the beautiful garder to serve it in the future, which sounds really nice. thank you for making of my vacation a great experience!!
Excellente!
Room #12 suite very nice, people at the front desk and service of the room!! just a couple of suggestions: make the name aqualuna longer so people driving or walking by can see it. Everything else was very nice. We will come back. Mary Ann
