Angsana Velavaru

It is definitely not a 5-star resort, neither does it provide the luxrious atmosphere. To sum it up: a quiet beauiful island to do absolutely nothing! Just to provide a few points for the benefit of all: The bangalow: nice, spacious but relatively no-frills, we enjoyed it Service: good service all-in-all, especially at the restaurant Food: excellent! We truly enjoy it very much, gaining a few kilos ;-) Beach: white sandy beach. The lagoon at one part is particularly good for swimming Underwater: have to be taken... more

lovely relaxing informal island. Attentive staff and perfect bungalow accommodation. Nothing much to do but perfect for a peaceful break away from it all.

Been back in the UK now for 2 weeks and still i'm buzzing about our time on Velavaru. We had 2 weeks in room 122 and had a fantastic time. We spent 2 weeks last year on Meeru in the north and had high expectations. We were not disapointed. The Island is beautiful and from our room we had great views of the sunset. We used the dive school and though expensive the staff where very good and the locations gave a very good mix of high activity including white tip, and nurse sharks, and also beautiful corals and overhangs. It did not start well as a week before we were due to go Kuoni informed us that the Resort was overbooked. Still we did get there after spending 5 days elsewhere only to be told that the Deluxe Beach Bungalow previously booked was not available the first day. No apologises given by the reception staff. The bungalows were all very close together within about 6 foot of each other. The standard of the room was poor and the Bathroom was almost "Butlins". Oh, we did have a CD player but nobody had any CD's to lend us to play on it!<br... more

We visited Velavaru from November 7th to 20th, 2005. As this was our third trip to the Maldives, it had a lot to live up to! Arrived at the resort by Seaplane, and took a 5 minute Dhoni ride to the main jetty. We were shown to reception, and given a welcome drink and cold towel. The Reception was light and airy, with several sofas, gift shop, and jewellers. Reception was sand floor. We will be returning at the end of November for our fifth visit to the Island. This is the perfect spot for a relaxing holiday. The old " No shoes No news " is still true though there is now one TV for the football ! The staff cannot do enough for you. We have been in contact since the Tsunami and all is back to normal. So many highlights over the years cannot list them all. The staff are at the top with marine life a close second. We were also lucky enough to witness the hatching of sea turtles in 2003 (Dec). arriving in the maldives is a wonderful experience. the seaplane journey is not to be missed and as a sometimes nervous flyer i really loved it. the views are incredible. the hotel is well organised with friendly but not overbearing staff. bungalows are comfortable but not luxurious...but who goes to the maldives for the rooms ! velavaru has a superb beach which is very well kept and you never get the feeling of being overlooked, but best of all the marine life is fantastic. twice a day the dhonis (boats) take you to different... more

Arrived 23rd septlovely beach all around the island bar a short part. Does not have a close house reef but do not be put off as twice daily boat (free) takes you out to the reef. excellent accomadation, sea plane transfer is amazing, definately recomended!!!!!! (This island has reopened and is not closed as mentioned at top of page)

We went on honeymoon to velaveru on the 26 sept 2004 for two weeks we were worried about the weather but had the most wonderful time ever..was in the low 30`s every day and that was good.....we totally chilled out the hole experience of getting there was great...the seaplane journey from Male was amazing....35 mins in the air and we arrived in heaven...the people were so helpful and friendly and made you feel special...a top tip.....the plugs are the same as in England so no travel plugs needed........cant wait to go back for our wedding... more

We visited Velavaru in June '04 - our second trip to the Maldives. The island is very small ( you can walk around it in about 15 mins) , and the accomodation is in the shape of beach bungalows on the beach. If you have a family , this is not really the place for you. There are very limited activities for children , and virtually no nightlife, although we were told the diving school on the island is excellent.
