Aldea Thai Resort

This was my second visit to Playa del Carmen. The year before I stayed at the Aventura Mexicana which was great and affordable. However, it is inland (between 5th and 10th Avenues) and this time, we wanted something closer to the beach. We saw the Aldea Thai last year and decided to give them a shot this time. We weren't disappointed at all, but think the place could use a few personal touches to make your stay nicer. The hotel is located within steps of the beach, and within a block of the action on 5th - so location is great. There are, however, a few pitfalls. 1. Upon arrival expect to be greeted with complementary champagne and then approached by a concierge who helps you with all reservation arrangements and then tries to push you into a 'free VIP breakfast' to discuss buying a condo/timeshare at Aldea Thai. Spent 5 nights with my daughter and Son in Law at the Aldea Thai. We rented a two bedroom Penthouse (313). The family travels together a lot and have not been to Mexico for some time. The pictures are great and while we knew it would not compare to the Providenciales in the Turks & Cacios Isands, we wanted a nice place easy to get to. We searched for a week and decided on the Aldea Thai. It was very resonable and our room was nice. The roof top patio and the view were fabulous. The pro is the price.
