Tranquil and good value not for the young

I traveled to Menorca with five of my friends, we were all very excited and this must have been apparent when we arrived at the Tramontana Hotel, we were ore struck with the location and the views. However our enthusiasm was quickly weakened by the rudeness of the hotel receptionist. We were not welcomed in any way! Although we were pleasant with her, she did not smile or give us eye contact at all. Although we had all booked together, the party of six was separated into two rooms at opposite sides of the hotel. When we requested closer rooms we were told it was not possible as all rooms were full. We later found out that this was a lie as she had said this to several other parties that had arrived during the week and the hotel wasn’t busy at all.
The rooms were extremely basic but clean. There was no kettle or microwave but were told by other people that these could be requested from reception. The receptionist did not tell us this. The day before we left we found out that there was a gym and we could request the keys from the reception. The receptionist did not tell us this either.
We were staying on an all inclusive basis, which was good value as the food and drink was delicious and plentiful. The restaurant and bar staff were very helpful and friendly, however the bar closed at 11.30pm. The resort is exceptionally quiet, unfortunately the local town was a five minute bus journey away and there was only 1 other restaurant/ bar, 1 small café and 1 small supermarket in the resort. Tramontana Park Aparthotel, Playa De Fornells is a beautiful and tranquil resort, which is geared towards German and Spanish holiday makers.

Boring

We had a family holiday here in July and although the hotel was ok, the location was not. The beach is close by but you will not find a jet ski on the whole island. The ages of our party ranged from 1 to 55 years old and everyone was bored. This was not helped by the fact that our pool was closed for a full 24 hours, 3 times in one week, for hygiene reasons. Without a car there is nothing to do but sunbathe, you could always get the bus in the day but its not ideal. There are only 3 places to eat with walking distance of the hotel, one serves bar food, one has awful food and the other is very nice, so we were left eating bar food most nights and went to the same nice restaurant several times in 2 weeks! Absolutely nothing seems to happen in the hotel at night.

Accomodation, excellent. Resort...

Accomodation, excellent. Resort staff, excellent. Locals, excellent. Views, superb. Location, due to building on the side of the bay there are quite a few steps in the resort but the views and surrounding countryside far compensate for this. This is a very spanish lifestyle resort where by attempting a little spanish language the locals will warm to you even more. If you want lots of entertainment, bingo and party games, go to Blackpool. This is one resort that we will be returning to. As the resort is set in the spanish countryside a car is essential to visit the rest of this beautiful island. Car hire is available on site at very reasonable rates. Driving on the wrong side of the road seems very odd but locals are very patient and give you plenty of space. Mahon airport is a 20 minute taxi ride away. For relaxation, peace and tranquill walks this is the place to be.

If you have children please please do...

If you have children please please do not book here. In fact, in my opinion don't book here full stop unless you want to lounge around the poolside all day or can drive.
We arrived full of great anticipation after having a great holiday in Majorca in May but boy what a nasty shock we had. Cliffs & rocks everywhere and no sign of the sandy beach in the Internet info we looked at. Another point about the cliffs & rocks is that wasn't a single fence to stop anyone from falling over. It might look pretty but it isn't safe or reassuring when you have children. More steps in the apartment complex than anywhere I have ever seen and definitely not child friendly. We had to put the reins on the youngest and keep telling the other to keep away from the edge of the cliffs and just couldn't relax.
Then we went into the restaurant and were attacked by flies. Although they explained that it was unusual to have so many flies the problem was that when going into the restaurant there was only one door and when you went through it to eat so did the flies. No fly traps inside to get rid of them, they just settled nicely onto your food.
Now onto the apartment. It was clean and quite roomy but again, steps up to the bedroom and we had to put our suitcase at the top to stop the youngest going down on his own, or maybe falling down.
Well, within the first day, Wednesday, when we walked to the shop, past the beach (which was in my opinion a lot further than the 600m quoted), and looked like it hadn't been used all season, only to be told it was closing that day leaving just one shop within walking distance, we decided that enough was enough.
We went back to the apartment and decided that on Thursday (we tried to make it on Wednesday but the bus had gone), we were going into Mahon to see if we could go anywhere else.
We went on Thursday, spent a fortune on taxis, and finally found The Royal Son Bou apartments at Son Bou where we duly booked accommodation for the rest of the holiday.
Just look at it this way. We paid £1700 for an all inclusive holiday and after arriving on the Tuesday evening we left on the Friday after paying over £650 to move to half board at another hotel.
If that doesn't tell you how bad it was then I am afraid nothing will.
