Good service, good food, reasonable entertainment. Good value all inclusive, but bars do not open until 11am in that heat I need a cool drink before that. Rooms NOT 4* no fridge no tea making facility, you have to wait for breakfast before you can have a hot drink, by that... more

Spotlessly clean but rude and surly staff
I could go on for some while but keeping it brief this is our own experience of a short stay at the Sant Luis Hotel, S'algar: This Hotel and the S'algar resort generally is spotlessly clean and well kept. All the usual facilities are there if you want them. The Hotel has some of the slowest and rudest staff I have encountered (and we are far from demanding travellers). Checking in/out was problematic, the booking was incorrect, getting a drink from the bar or seeking information from the reception took an age - thats even when the staff didn't just stop serving you in order to have a lengthy social chat with a colleague/friend. Most of the food in the main restaurant was edible but generally put together using low quality produce and ingredients. Lunches at the poolside cafe were better but restricted to a limited range of pasta, pizza or salad. S'algar is a quiet part of the Island which suited us but may not suit everyone. The Hotel had reasonable disabled facilities for those that require them. There is a very good professionally run Dive centre a few hundred yards away on the sea front.
Very nice hotel. Location very quiet.
Stayed at this hotel on an all inclusive basis, on the whole a very nice clean and well run hotel which I would consider good value and a true 4 star rating. ( we all know how hotel ratings can be grossly overated on the continent!!) Rooms are air cond and a nice size, 5 foot bed, good bathrooms with a power shower. daily cleaned and new towels. the pool is lovely, as is the rest of the reception/bar area. The dining area has a bit of a canteen feel to it , having a large central food unit with numerous huge trays of mass produced food, which I found a bit unappetising. the food was generaly good quality, but im not a lover of this type of presentation. The local brand drinks are a bit nasty. Plenty of on site sports facilities available, ie rifle shooting, archery, bowling, etc. Entertainment in the evening was a bit hit and miss, and sadly nowhere else to go in the resort of S'algar other than a small diving school, a little square with a couple of shops and a bar called "Dinkys" on the seafront. The beach has no sand but is good for snorkeling, but, beware of the small jellyfish, I learnt to my great disscomfort that their sting is poisonous, I needed first aid to ease the swelling.Hiring a car is a must. Menorca is a fairly small island and in two days we managed to visit all the other resorts, beaches and gorgeous coves surrounding the island. However please note that the car park in front of the hotel is for public use and is not owned by the hotel. Our car (aswell as 3 others were dragged away by the police because on returning from a trip we could only park in a dissabled space. The hotel management completely ignored my concerns that there was no notice board in the car park. I had to hire a taxi to the next town and hand over 105 euros to the police to retrieve the car. The following day a further 4 cars had been taken (a nice little earner for the police!!) Overall I would sum up by saying, if your looking for a relaxing holiday, and not too bothered about nightlife, then im sure you will enjoy your stay here.
Very clean
We were on the all inclusive with a wristband, they dont tell you it doesnt actually include everything! they have the cheap spanish drinks on the AI and the half board people get the international branded drinks. You are only allowed one drink per meal any extra you pay for. They have an Asian Restaurant which you can go to 1 visit per stay but the same applies only one AI drink. The staff were very good and the hotel was very clean and daily maid service. There isn't really anything else to do in the evening but stay at the hotel, there are no other shops or places you could walk to or no where near any beaches. All you can do in the daytime is sit around the pool which again was very clean and well kept. Very relaxing though if you dont intend on doing much.
Great Holiday
A very good hotel, the staff and service were first rate, plenty of choice foodwise.the all inclusive, was very good indeed,I cannot fault this hotel,in fact we are going to book another holiday there for next year
excellent hotel
A lovely hotel which is very efficiently run. Quiet resort would recommend hiring a car for a few days to see other places, only one bus from resort to Mahon three or four times per day. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, we had a mountain view(no supplement) and it was fine, you could actually see the sea if you just looked to the right! the sports bar across the complex is great for a few chilled out drinks early evening and the mini disco was brilliant for our 20 month old. Food was a little repetitive but always nice, the italian restuarant for lunch was fantastic and made a change from the buffet, and the asian was very good although limited menu choice. would definately revisit in the future.
Great Week Away
Just got back from taking my girlfriend, 3 kids (14, 9 & 4) and mother for a week in the Hotel San Luis. Stayed 'all inclusive' and had a great time. Rooms were basic but clean with good ensuite – however, it’s worth paying extra for a sea view. Pool was clean and not too busy. Great selection of activities for kids, which included; football on a proper outdoor 5-a-side pitch, tennis, snorkelling, sea kayaking, mountain biking, archery and shooting - what's more all the activities were free. Food was basic but there was plenty of it and the kids loved the free ice cream and drinks. Service could be a little slow at the bars but drinks were good and there was a fair selection. The nightly entertainment was good and the noise ended promptly at 2330. Would certainly go back. Nice hotel in a quiet location, ideally suited for families with kids up to about 15.
Service Terrbile
When we arrived it seemed very clean and relaxing. We had an all inclusive wristband that only went from 11am till 11pm which was not very good. The entertainment was great. A very good chinese tradiotional show was on! but after a few days we saw that the staff were very un helpful and rude they would be very slow working behind the bar and it is very understaffed. Our room was okay but i missed a cup of tea every morning as there was no tea making equipment in the room. Also the maid woke us up very early to clean our room and the 2 pools are very dirty and the floor tiles outside get too hot there is no system that keeps it cool so you burn your feet. Also the plates in the dinig hall are too hot and i burnt my hand there is not much variety of foods and sometimes i had cold sausages for breakfest. The food was disgusting.
It's reaslly only 3*
Whilst the hotel has some good facilities, it does nor warrant a 4* rating and should be downgraded to 3*. In particular, the main dining room area suffers from a lack of staffing, those who are there work hard but from their expressions they obviously feel 'put upon' Tables are not cleared quickly enough, food presentation and variety is poor and not hot enough. Lounge areas suffer from a lack of cleanliness and there are no areas (apart from the main dining room) where non-smokers can get away from the pollution of others. The swimming pool could do with a degree of heating ideally by use of solar panels. However the demonstration cooking area is first class with the chef providing excellent dishes (particularly fresh fish) Asia restaurant is also first class and well served and the pool cafe and sports cafe provided good lunch facilities. In general, whilst S'Algar is a developed area without character, it is well laid out and kept in immaculate condition (more than can be said for the neigbouring resort of Punta Prima)
Every thing great (but very limited choice of food)
The resort is a place that grows on you as you lay back and enjoy the local pace of life, a very quite location with 3 or 4 bars and a few some shops. A diving centre and lido on the sea front. There is 2 Hotels and 3 or 4 apartment blocks, both hotels are 4 star and the apartments of a high standard. A free train runs round the resort in the evening with a number of drop off points. The San Luis Hotel and the resort are both very, very clean, The hotel has a army of staff and look after you very well. The drinks are not watered down and are a good quailty the bottled beer is 5.4% and is included in the All inclusive. The day and evening entertainment is good and the hotel has its own sports centre, with Tennis, football, Table Tennis, Mini Golf, Bowls and a Gym, All Excellent. The pool is safe and friendly for small children and there is no rush for sun beds not even in August. The only down side is the food in the main dinning hall, a very limited choice, one fish dish, one meat dish and chips. (same choice at lunch and dinner time). The Asia and Pizza were far better and well worth a visit. The two other eating areas were a Hot Dog stall next to the football pitch and a bar in the sports centre for Rolls and Snacks. If you want to friendly, quite, laid back, safe, clean Holiday this is well worth a visit. We had 2 weeks and were not ready to go home at the end of it (a nice place to live). There are many retired british people living and woking at the resort.
First time to Minorca, nice hotel
Stayed at the San Luis for a week at end of September 2004. The hotel is really nice - very clean. Restaurant efficiently managed serving good food. Hotel staff very friendly. Get a room with sea view - great to wake up every morning and sit in the warm sunshine on the balcony watching the sea. The hotel is a little isolated - it sits in a purpose built resort which has another hotel as well as apartments and individual villas. Good sporting facilities. Cheap car hire which is a must to explore the rest of the island. Only small negative point was that the water in the lovely swimming pool was very cold. Overall a very enjoyable stay, recommended.
