Give it a miss!
I've just come back from a weeks stay at Djadsal Hotel in Sal Cape Verde and the holiday started off as a very stressful experience. My mum and i arrived with other holidaymakers to find that they were told that the hotel had overbooked and they were being asked to stay at another hotel up the road.We considered ourselves to be lucky in that we were given a room but it wasn't he lovely bungalow with a garden view that we had booked. We took this up with the reception staff and we were asked if we'd mind staying in that room and be moved into... more
Great beach location - shame about the hotel...
I have just returned from an all inclusive 7 day break at the Djadsal in Santa Maria with my wife. The holiday club is ideally located for reaching the long sandy beaches and clear blue sea which are the main attraction for having a relaxed break at the Santa Maria resort. Unfortunately, the Djadsal does not meet my expectations of a 4 star hotel; from the outside it looks tired and in need of modernisation and the rooms albeit clean, were fairly basic and bed matress relatively hard. The food was generally of good standard in the main... more
beautiful beach, shame about the hotel
Just arrived home from a weeks stay at this hotel. It really needs to have some money invested on it. The rooms are very basic, the mattress on the beds is hard and you may need to request another pillow. The pool bar was infested with flies, they walked all over the clean crockery which the staff then served you with! I started with an upset tummy by day three and am still suffering six days on. Staff were ok, they worked hard morning to night, tried to get them to smile but never achieved it. The island is under major construction work,... more
2 weeks is too long in this hotel
We had two weeks at this hotel on an all inclusive basis. It's fine if you are looking for somewhere to crash but I wouldn't recommend the all inclusive option. The food was repetitve and entirely focussed on the large number of Italian guests (great if you love pasta) and after a long broken conversation it transpired that the cocktail bar serves two types - Red or Green! The hotel is a little tatty with broken loo seats, occasionally dripping air conditioning and lots of broken sunbeds. The staff are largely friendly but English... more
Came to terms with the Djadsal
The Djadsal was ok in the respect of location/cleanliness of rooms etc. but was particially let down by some of the reception staff who had obviousley not put themselves out to have a good command of the English language. The overall food offerings in the restuarant was pretty good but not a great deal of variaty and nothing to make the taste buds drool. This next piece is merely nit picking but it would have been nice to have a sunbed mattress bearing in mind most people go there for the sun and those plastic beds got quite... more
Not the pretties but what fun
Santa Maria and Sal are beautiful in there own way. On arrival you are met by a desert scene but as you approach Santa Maria, the buildings start. Yes ,like a lot of evolving holiday spots, plenty of building work is going on, but in Cape Verde nothing goes fast and our holiday was never spoilt by the sound of construction work. nor was our view. We stayed at the Djadsal Hotel, not my first choice now, but clean and comftiable. It was on a b&b basis and we were very glad of that. The blue banders (all inclusive) tribe were the ones... more
No problems at all
We stayed at the Djadsal 21 - 28 feb 2008, and we liked our stay a lot. I'll agree with the other reviews about this not being a 4 star hotel, but we didn't really come here with that expectation. We were traveling to Cape Verde with the expectatation that we were now visiting Africa for the first time, and were excited about going. We stayed in a bungalow with all-inclusive. We did not experience any loud disco, just one evening when there was a show with lots of drums, that could be heard. But even that was no problem falling... more
Not recommended
Just back from a one week stay at the Djadsal - 25 jan to 01 feb - this hotel is rated 4 star locally but in reality is more like a 2 star. Bungalow accommodation was good, very colourful and cleaned every day and very close to an excellent beach. However, facilities were lacking, there was only one bar, the pool bar, in operation most of the week, there was virtually no entertainment on, hot water was not available in peak times - just like very cheap hotels of 20 years ago! The electricity failed on one occasion and the... more
Hated the Djadsal
The Djadsal hotel would be ok if you want a noisy, lively stay and don't spend any time in your room. The food, staff and beach are fine. The pool is unheated and was cold when we were there in November. The disco is very loud indeed, and almost relentless from 11am until well after midnight on some evenings, and the only place you can't hear it is on the beach. We hated this aspect so much that we moved hotels at our own expense because Thomsons could do nothing for us - even in the better rooms around the pool you simply cannot avoid the... more
OK, but needs improvement
Stayed at the Djadsal in January 2008 as part of an inspection tour to view our recently purchased property. We have bought an apartment at the Dunas Beach Resort on the west coast of Sal Island, due to be completed by 2012. The Djadsal is in a superb position, right on Santa Maria beach which is wide, with powdery, golden sand. The hotel caters mainly for all inclusive guests, particulaly Italian, who enjoy sitting round the pool or on sunbeds scattered around the manmade sandy areas. The pool bar serves drinks and snacks all day but... more
