My family and I stayed at the Fairmont Banff Springs for our 10 day skiing holiday this year. The hotel is absolutely fabulous and the staff cannot do enough for you.
However, the Fairmont rooms are quite small and we had to pay a supplement to our tour operator as they state in their brochure the rooms can accommodate 3-4 people - this is certainly not the case - it would appear they are making money there!
The rooms suit 2 and are very comfortable but not extravagant. There are other rooms available if you wish to spend more.
Banff town had so many restaurants to dine at if you didn't want to stay in the hotel for dinner. We can highly recommend The Maple Leaf Grill , Saltliks, Giorgios and the Elk and Oarsman for dinner.
We stayed at the hotel for breakfast either in the Bistro or in the Bow Valley Grill (quite expensive buffet!)
We mainly skied at Lake Louise which was approximately 40-45 mins drive from the hotel. The resort is absolutely fabulous. Plenty of runs from beginner to Advanced. The maximum wait we had for the lifts was certainly no more than 5 minutes - it all ran extremely smoothly. There is also a really great practice area for beginners at Lake Louise which other resorts don't offer.
Sunshine Village had really good snow, although we went on a really cold snowy day and didn't appreciate the slopes as much as we could have. Norquay - wouldn't return there as its very limited runs were off putting.
All ski areas offer very good dining facilities for lunch/snacks and the prices are very reasonable. There are also lodges located on the mountain (Lake Louise) where you can stop for lunch/refreshments.
On your return from a busy day's skiing the hotel staff at The Fairmont would meet and greet you from the ski shuttle and place your skis/poles onto a ski rack to house them overnight in the ski room - absolutely effortless from our point of view.
It was heaven after a long day's skiing to return to the hotels hot outdoor pool and sooth your aching limbs.
We booked a Tri-lift pass for 9 days which included free transport to the skiing areas. The transport ran like clockwork and staff were very helpful on the ski shuttles.
All in all, we had a wonderful holiday in Banff and skiing was first class. We have already booked to return next February
Thoroughly recommended!

This is the most beautiful, magnificent hotel set in stunning scenery near the Rocky mountains. Banff is a small town with everything you could need when on holiday, a wide variety to suit all budgets, although I highly recommend the Maple Leaf for something special, very good value with exceptional service.
The hotel was originally built styled on a Scottish castle and even once inside the splendour is breathtaking. Everyone is so friendly but discreet so you are free to enjoy your holiday without feeling 'watched'.
Sitting in the outdoor hot pool with snow falling under a starlit sky was a fantastic experience which I hope I'm lucky enough to experience again...

My wife and I stayed over the Xmas period and can totally recommend a visit to this excellent hotel.
Room type: Fairmont with a mountain view
Package: Hotel Celebration
Inc: Champers on arrival, celebration tour of castle, professional framed portrait, breakfast and evening meals, all gratuities and other goodies.
Highlights: Santa send off, carol concert, yuletide log ceremony, Banffshire club dining experience, outstanding Mount Rundle views, ice skating party.
Resort: Banff town is a delight, especially when snowing and has many shops and eating places (recommend The Maple Leaf).
Downside: Hotel - None, Resort - not ski-in-ski-out
Weather: Sunny most days with perfect snow at Sunshine Village. Normally very cold at this time of year but we’ve been on 2 occasions and no problems.
There is nothing that staff at the Fairmont BS won’t do to make your stay perfect, the hotel and restaurants are out of this world. Definitely try a meal at the Banffshire Club, it’s a must.
