Hotel Poiano

Nice self catering apartments and we had a lovely view of the lake. The downside was that no cleaning services were provided at all. We also had to pay extra for towels. When on holiday, I prefer to leave cleaning the toilet etc to others, apparently this is not an option. The self catering reception staff were rather cold and unhelpful. Whereas the hotel reception staff were excellent. They also have a strange method of charging 9 euro's per day for utilities and you pay this at the end of the holiday. We have just returned from a family holiday at the Poiano Appartments in Garda. The complex is great, the hotel is of a really high standard with a fantastic dining terrace with views across Lake Garda. The swimming pool is 50m in length, giving plenty of room for people to swim and play with balls and inflatables. There is also a small baby pool. There are entertainment staff based around the pool who organise a number of free activties during the day for those who want to - and if you don't you just sit back and relax. Just returned from a fabulous holiday in Garda. Stayed half board but because of the walk to the hotel after a long day on the lake etc often stayed in town for a meal. Once you are back in the hotel its just too much trouble to get ready and go back into town for a meal so once your in your in for the night!! Staff very very nice and helpful and beautiful views from the restaurant . Food mostly fine if you like polenta and fish. My family and I (two adults and 2 children) have just returned from a 14 night stay in the Poiano apartments during the busy August period. Unfortunately we arrived at the complex around 11am in pouring rain; The receptionist initially told us that our apartment would not be ready for us until 1pm at the earliest, but it turned out to be 3:30pm before the room was available for us to check-in. After an active week in the French Alps this hotel and area provided our family with the perfect week of sightseeing and relaxation. Our car was essential for reasons outlined by other reviewers, though we also used the excellent train service from Peschiera to visit Milan (San Siro), took boat trips from Garda and found the bus service round the lake to be excellent. A fantastic hotel, great staff, from the porter to the manager. So very clean, food excellent, waiter service. The views are magnificant. Had loads of trips out, in between chill days, went to Venice, Verona, Dolmites, the Opera a must, no need to be an Opera boff, just experience the open top arena in Verona. The best holiday I have ever had. I will definitely return to Lake Garda in a few years after I have explored other countries. From a 48 year old, fun loving female.

We stayed in the apartments. On arrival we were allocated "the bungalow" which was more like a shack sitting by itself. It was shabby and dull so we asked to be moved. We were moved to an apartment which was of the standard we were expecting. We all enjoyed our stay here. The pool was great. The only downside was it was a bit cool but you got used to it. Visited Garda June 2006 booked with Thomas Cook.Special birthday (60). Lovely hotel in a beautiful tranquil setting. Good food,friendly very helpful staff BUT! The brochure states that a shuttle bus service runs from the hotel into Garda (it is not the hotels own bus) what it doesn't state is that the bus serves most of the hotels in the area and that it is a good walk from the hotel to the bus stop. Sometimes it didn't turn up at all. Reps tell you to catch the bus at Garda bus station for the return to hotel but is... more

I agree with the previous reviewer - taxi's have improved since, facilities still good and definitely one for those who enjoy a walk. Had a great holiday - pool is great (50m), facilities good, friendly staff. Courtesy bus driver warms up and smiles after a few days if you drop some coins on his gratuity plate.

Stayed at Hotel Poiano Sept 05. Very nice hotel with cane furniture in bedrooms and good bathrooms with "jet" showers. (Ask for a room facing the lake as the view at sunset is beautiful as there are also rooms which face the back of the hotel). Great sized Olympic sized pool with loungers etc. Hotel staff are very pleasant. Expect the usual type breakfast and dinner was quite nice in a relaxing atmosphere.
