nice, clean quiet hotel

We stayed at Hotel CocoRio and found the hotel quite lovely. They front desk people were helpful and the rooms were clean. We had read a review that the rooms were not cleaned every day, but that was not the case. We would come back from the beach to a freshly cleaned room every day!!! This hotel is very basic, so don;t expect 5 star but if your looking for a hotel just off 5th ave and not far from the beach I recommend it,

We DO NOT recommend staying in this hotel. Please note we are world travelers. I personally spend more than 150 nights a year in hotels around the world because I work in the travel industry. This critique does not come lightly. Upon our arrival there was a plumbing problem with our room and they told us we would receive a free upgrade. The upgrade merely consisted of the same room with an extra bed we did not need. Upgrade? The fact is we later surmised our room was given to another complaining guest brought on by the street...

Small and lovely hotel

I was desperate to find a decent hotel in the Playa del Carmen during the Christmas. Luckily I got the Coco Rio. Its location is great, just off 5th Av. and 2 minutes walk to the beach. The staff is friendly. Room is clean.

Ok. reding some of the reviews I was redy for the worse. And was plesantly suprised! CHECK IN: **** First, we were wellcomed very warm. All 4 people that were assisting us were very sweet, nice, friendly, polite and helpful! We arrived and I recognized lovely Spanish colonial facade already from the car a block away and was happy to stay at the place in such a cute nice charming building. Paid lots for poor service

My husband, daughter, and I stayed at this hotel and were extremely disappointed with the service. They would take our dirty towels and we had to go to the office to ask for fresh ones. The pamphlet said there was a kitchenette and safe box, but we had to pay extra for the use of both. When we requested to use the sofabed that was in the hotel room for our daughter, all they gave us was one top sheet and no pillows. She was cold at night because we had to keep the air on due to humidity. We asked several times for extra blankets saying...

Huge disappointment

My family and i currently traveled to Playa del Carmen and stayed at the Cocorio. Much to my surprise and my husbands, the place was a huge disappointment. The rooms that were shown to us were not the rooms they assigned. The room did not have a working safe and when inquired was tolded that we could not changed rooms and besides was told that there was a daily fee for the safe. Maid service was awful. She did not clean the floor or the bathroom floor. Towels were taken away and were not given clean ones until later in the evening, also were...

Thank you very much to help us with the commentaries; our hotel is charm and small it has only 17 rooms and the rates that we have are not for a FIVE STAR´S HOTEL with ALL INCLUSIVE. Fortunately case like above happen rarely: they book a room for 2 people and then at the arrival-day they want to stay 5 in the same room!!! . All the reservations by agencies are informed about the hotel’s rule and even when the guests come at the front desk get again our rules. Towels: each room has a sign with rule about the use and/or change room-towels, beach-towels... (Only you must read it to know how it works). The employees are always helpful and respectful with our guest giving the instructions and tips about the place even when the guests act like to be understandable.

WE just returned from Playa del Carmen and a stay at the CocoRio hotel. We found the location was great, and the rooms were larger than expected. They daily maid service lacked "service" in that we had a towel shortage and our sheets were not changed the whole 7 days. General cleanliness was good. Our door barely closed and our balcony door barely opened. The security safe was broken. We did inquire and requested repair or a different room but to no avail. Quaint and Immaculate Hotel

I have stayed at the Coco Rio on numerous occasions and every experience has been nothing but good. as for fleas in the bed and sharing bath towels I don't see how this could be true. First of all there are no telephones in the room, so calling the front desk would be impossible. There is always an employee available to answer any questions. The rooms are simple but immaculate with a/c, cable television. The standard rooms are on the small side but the other rooms are very large. I have stayed at many of the smaller hotels in Playa del Carmen but had trouble finding a room during Christmas this year (late booking so we booked a room at the Coco Rio for 3 days at Christmas time. Paid $90 US per night. Location is great, north end of Playa near Mamitas beach. That is the only good thing about the Coco Rio. First night discovered the bed was crawling with fleas, toilet flushed intermitently and both of us used the same towel for 3 days.
