Le Royal

Stayed at Le Royal for 3 nights in late September. Overall, the hotel didn’t live up to the glorious reviews on the site. The location is indeed perfect – take bus 98 from the airport (EUR 4) and ask the driver to stop at the Palais de La Mediterannee (luxury hotel next door to the Royal). The ride along La Promenade des Anglais is only about 15-20 minutes from Terminal 2. We decided to book our trip to Nice incredibly last minute.....Now, when we booked a room in the Royal, we seriously did not expect such a brilliant place. The location ,is exactly where you would want to be. The hotel is oppsite the beach and a stone's throw away from all the restaurants, bars, boutiques and tourist attractions. we spent a week at this hotel and had a great time. you just can't beat the location. it's a 20 second walk out the door and across the promenade to the beach. the hotel restaurant is really nice and affordable and the staff is super friendly. i wouldn't stay anywhere else in nice... it's a really great value. i have zero complaints. there are lots of nice restaurants in the area and in addition to the hotels we also really enjoyed l'ybane which is quite close by. bus 98 to the airport stops on the promenade very close to the hotel as does... more

Since my last review I have visited Le Royal 5 more times and it just gets better. They continuously make improvements to the furnishings, the staff are just as helpful as ever, the bar is still one of the cheapest in Nice. The room rate is very good value for money, have introduced many friends to this hotel in the past year and they all agree it is unbeatable in , quality, position, friendliness and of course price. A great base to explore Nice from or visit the beach..

Excellent hotel. Right in the front of the sea on the promenade des Anglais, I reckon it's the best value you will find, seaview room for 102 euro!! I used to pay double at the West End. The hotel is very clean and the seaview rooms are big ! They seem to cater to the elderly because the majority of the guests seemed to be retired at least !

Basically, the hotel is a good bargain if you're willing to put up with some drawbacks. It's got to be the most affordable hotel on the Promenade des Anglais and in low season a sea-view room starts at 92 euro for one person. (Breakfast of 8.90 euro was not included, and it looked pretty sparse from my spin through the dining room.) I traveled alone but they gave me the double with two twin beds. We stayed here one night after flying into the Nice airport on our way to Italy. Room and bath were clean and the twin beds firm. Sea view was about 135 eu. Breakfast not included and better to go out and find a place in the surrounding streets. Seemed to have a disproportionate number of octogenarians, a good thing maybe contributing to the quietness in the halls and public rooms. A wonderful hotel right on the seafront providing excellent value for money. Close to the airport and an easy journey on the bus dropping us opposite the hotel. Rooms spacious and clean with excellent views of the sea but still quiet. Helpful staff and generous measures of spirits for that after dinner drinks on the patio feeling! Hotel food was good especially if you are too tired to find a restaurant in the old town and want to chat to the fellow French holiday makers. "Le Royal" has a very nice and friendly 'olde worlde' feeling about it, which I for one appreciate. The reception rooms are quite imposing, yet friendly. My room was great, a nice double with sound-proof windows and air conditioning. The only problem was that there was quite a strong smell coming off the carpet because it was new. Situated in probably the best position on the seafront in Nice, between the Negresco and the Casino. I can well understand why your reviewer has stayed 20 times, and I wouldn't stay anywhere else either. This is a proper grand hotel with a resturant, terrace bar, huge foyer etc all manned by really friendly staff. We had a seaview room with small balcony which was immaculate and spacious(huge by french 3 star standards).
