Hotel Helvetique

Hotel Helvetique, Nice I stayed at the Helvetique for 4 nights with a friend of mine and we shared a twin room. Location: Simply perfect. Around the corner from Place Massena, which is great at night due to all the street performers and crowds of people going to restaurants in the streets just off the square. It's a nice area with lots of shopping around. The avenue Jean Medecin is the one leading up from Place Massena, and that's where all the shopping is, including a big shopping mall. We stayed one night and found the room to be clean, the bed firm and comfortable, the linen clean, and the shower hot. The view out the window was of some grimy rooftops, but there was no noise from a street below. The breakfast consisted of a croissant, a half baguette, Frosties cornflakes, orange juice and coffee, with butter, marmelade and chocolate hazelnut spread. We couldn't get the room safe to work, but all-in-all it was a most acceptable hotel for a stopover.

Rooms were dated and no air conditioning but fresh linen and towels. If in front rooms very noisy but we were changed rooms as not full. Beds were comfortable and clean. Some rooms had more wardrobes, usually the 2 double bedroms. Staff friendly and helpful and hotel in a good position for bus station, 10 mins and train station, 15 mins walk. Asked for taxi to airport and paid 35 euros on a sunday, the week previous it was 30 euros for same trip. Lift is small 3 people only but adequate. Did not have breakfast so... more

European style can be a euphemism for small and old...in Helvetique's case, this description is truly fitting. Small, old room, looked clean but smelled. Linens too few and of poor quality. Inadequate ventilation/AC. Toilet fixture broke....twice. Fire alarms went off twice for no reason late one night, with hotel manager fumbling to turn off. One hotel manager performs double duty as security guard and maintenance staff after hours. Continental breakfast of stale pastries though the coffee was fine. No on-site parking available... more

very good and clean hotel with very helpful staff in a centre location

We had a reasonable stay in a room for four adults at Hotel Helvetique. The room was run down, but clean, although the bathroom smelt mouldy. It is an old Hotel, and comfortable enough for a couple of nights, but I wouldn't stay much longer. The location isn't too bad, but isn't all that great and is around a 10 to 15 minute walk to the train station. The free internet is good. Overall it is a reasonable Hotel for an extremely cheap price, but I would probably try somewhere else next time. We booked through Hostel World with no problems.

We stayed at Hotel Helvetique in August and were pleased with our stay. The hotel is a little old and run down but it is clean and decent enough for the very reasonable rates you pay. The rooms were a little stuffy and the street was too noisy ( day and night) to have the window open so we relied on the air conditioning which worked sufficiently. Hotel is well situated in Nice, right on the main street, 20 mins walk from train station, 10 mins walk to the beach. Hotel staff are very friendly and very helpfull if you need any kind of assistance. Rooms are ok if you are on a budget as it was only Euro 90 incl breakfast for a triple room. There is no character to the rooms (a little dull) but there is a mini bar. If it is comfort you are looking for, then would pass off this one. The bonus is you have free internet.

Good little hotel for the price. We stayed here for 2 nights on August 19&20, 2005. Bit of a hike from the train station (about 20 minute walk), but nicely located in Nice (close to the beach). We paid 82 euros a night for a triple room, and the big bonus is that there is free internet at the hotel. There is only 1 computer but it saves you a few euros if you e-mail. Good hotel for a good value!

Hotel Helvetique in Nice, France is an okay place to hang your hat for a night or too...but it's not much on comfort. The location is great, as it's in easy walking distance from the train station, beach, and the old town. The neighboorhood it's located in is pretty good too. The rooms weren't that great, but the price was only 60 euro/night for a double room with a bathroom & breakfast, so it's a pretty good deal.
