Hotel Durante

We chose this hotel on the basis of the reviews on this site. We stayed 3 nights and were very impressed. Yes our room was fairly small, but it was well-decorated and furnished, and the bathroom was particularly good - great power shower. Other rooms were bigger, not all had showers though. We agreed with most other reviews - could not smell any strange smells in corridors this year, so perhaps they've changed cleanser brands. My husband and I stayed at the Durante for one night at the beginning of April. Plusses: free parking, helpful and friendly reception staff, good breakfast, redone bathroom (in Provencal yellow and blue), clean bedroom. Minuses: threadbare towels, a weird smell throughout the hotel (we think it was the brand of cleaner they use), dingy carpet, and relatively small bed. Bottom line: this is not a luxurious place, but it's extremely good value for your money, given its location and general upkeep.

Stayed at the Durante october 2003 after finding it on tourist info website though it does have it's own. Suggest people contact hotel direct as better response on availability. Room and hotel very nicely decorated and furnished for the reasonable prices. A very quiet, hidden location with a pretty courtyard despite being close to train station, though this is good for access to Monaco etc by train. I stayed here in September 2003, and it was excellent value for money. As a budget conscious traveller who likes a bit of style, the Hotel Durante was quiet, clean, thoughtfully decorated, and the staff were friendly and helpful.The courtyard is a lovely touch, even if we were too busy to make proper use of it!

Stayed in the Durante after reading reviews through this website. Thanks Tripadvisor!!! Great experience! What a quirky, fun place to stay. Nicely decorated, clean. Our room was upstairs and looked out over the beautiful courtyard and directly across at the statues of the Blues Brothers. (Find that at another hotel.) No beach view, but a nice walk to the water.

At about 77 euros per day and with its proximity to the Gare, Hotel Durante is indeed value for money. However, following are some disappointment which we encountered during a 3 days stay at the hotel recently. - Urea smell along the corridor, just outside our room. We highlight this to the reception but the response was "Is it, I have not been walking down the corridor for sometime!" ??? - No change of bed sheets, and chambermaid did not bother to even tug in the bed sheets under the mattress - Floor was not vacumm All in all, there... more

I cannot believe this is a 3-star hotel for about $86 a night! It is quiet, set off on a side street, and is just so cute! The rooms are very comfortable and air-conditioned. My boyfriend and stayed here for 3 days, and took side trips to Cannes and Monaco. Since Hotel Durante is a three minute walk from the train station, it is the perfect location (especially if you are using Nice as a base to explore other towns in the Riviera). We stayed at the Hotel Durante, just recently in a double room with bath for 78 euros and double with shower for 69 euros. The rooms were very nicely decorated, and the bathrooms bright and modern. Our windows opened onto the garden patio. There is also a small kitchenette in the room for an extra 8 euros a day. The staff were excellent, and very friendly. The hotel is a 3 minute walk to the train station, but about 20 mins. to the Promenade des Anglais. We found this an exceptional hotel for this price in Nice!

This hotel must have recently been renovated because the furnishings were nearly pristine. Very bright and pleasant. Even though it is a 45 second walk to the train station, the hotel is set in a cul-de-sac and all rooms really do look onto a private garden. The staff was very helpful. The owner doesn't speak English, but most of the students who work on her night staff do. They were all extremely helpful (particularly as we were trying to negotiate Nice during a transport strike). The Hotel Durante is located on a small side street which means that the hotel was very quiet. Our room was clean with a high ceiling overlooking a nice courtyard where breakfast was served. The staff was helpful. The location was very convenient to the train station and was within walking distance to the Promenade.
