I am a Travel Agent in the United Kingdom and I do believe that I have found a little gem in Banff called the BANFF CARIBOU LODGE.
When we visited Banff in November of 2005 we stayed at the Banff Caribou Lodge and we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Although a little set back from Banff centre the walk into town every day on a cold, snowy November morning made up for it (the scenery is just glorious).
We had a warm welcome and all the staff were friendly. The rooms are more basic than I was used to but were spotlessly clean and the bedding/towels were comfy and clean.
I would say in summing up that the Caribou Lodge is not the best hotel in the area (for luxury anyways) but what it lacks in luxury it makes up in warmth and friendliness.
I will recommend the Caribou to anyone who wishes to visit Banff.

It is a fab hotel. Rooms exceptionally clean and large (though limited wardrobe/drawer space for clothes. Restaurant was fantastic and food was great. Lovely little bar. Reception area very nice with lovely log fire.

Can’t fault this hotel one little bit and would go back again (which we have and which we will).

The hotel is farther than most from the shops, but a 10 minute walk never hurt anyone.
One thing that is a must is the adjoining restaurant, The Keg, the food is absolutely amazing. If you go you must try any of their steaks and add on a King Snow crab. Delicious!
Rooms were clean and the health spa is perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes.
